Brian, thanks for your reply , my London is Rotherhithe, Bermondsey, Deptford, Peckham,Greenwich, Brixton Camberwell and all of The Old Kent Road ,not the most salubrious areas but filled with people and families I’ve known for nearly 70 years. Parts of London are unrecognisable and soulless which is a shame, but as you say it’s happening everywhere.
As you remember London during The Blitz a very good read is ” London made us” by Robert Elmes, a very sad story about how London was and now is , definitely worth a read ._____________________________

29th August 2020 at 9:39 pm #162696Adlab…there is time enough, another 12 months there will be another crop of playerscoming along from around the world, I no longer think in domestic terms and that means Eutope as well…12 months ago there was not the hype on Sancho and previous to that Mpbappe, then I think players will emerge from the USA and Far East. The “hungry” players will always come through. Our domestic players have it easy too soon and there are plenty of examples. That will change in the next couple of years

30th August 2020 at 11:49 am #163279WE are the ParkLane….thanks…I will look out for that book. I do not care what anybody says but respect and values went out of the British society over 50years ago and has gone downhill ever since. With the level of politicians we have I fear it will not get better for my grandchildren or great grandchildren…I mean …al of them. The reason I know London that far back is my father was stationed at Aldershot and when possible my mother, sister and myself took the midnight train out of Manchester on the Friday returned same way on Sunday…A long journey then frequent stops to let priority traffic through sometimes bombing. Sometimes my father met us in London and we went to the Shows and syed at a house near Euston Station i remember being very comfy and lovely people to stay with. Wonderful memories despite the dangers

30th August 2020 at 2:01 pm #163371For all the paper talk about Messi, note not one word from City. So far its just speculation.
Also I doubt City will get embroiled in any contract issues that Messi might have, apart perhaps pointing him in the direction of top class legal advice.
Now its just speculation, which, in my view at this stage, wont happen. Its so stupid!_____________________________

30th August 2020 at 3:14 pm #163418Adlab, there’s no way City could risk signing Messi on the basis of his claim he has the right to be released on a free that’s a legal minefield which could bounce back on both Messi and City.
Barca will have to agree to Messi leaving for an agreeable fee which is sure to be circa £200m maybe more which together with Messi’s wastes even if he reduces them by half may push City in respect of FFP and they are already under the UEFA microscope re FFP.
It would be more doable with a player exchange which would reduce the outlay for City but Garcia would have no value in any makeweight deal as he’s available to sign in January on a pre contract for nothing.
I’m sure City and particularly Pep are interested in Messi as are one or two others but there’s nothing they can say publicly as Barca are adamant that Messi is not for sale and dispute his right to move for free as in their view that clause had expired you can never tell what might happen in legally but that one to be argued out in Court would take some time and may well cost Messi most of this season and it sounds like Messi is skating in thin ice to me as if he wanted to enact that clause he probably needed to do it on time irrelevant as to when the season finished..
If City were to get Messi though I think it could be a game changer over the next couple of seasons in respect of the PL and the CL especially were City to sign Koulibally too.

Entirely agree. Thats why unless the release clause isnt valid I agree its too risky. But do Barca want an unhappy Messi who doesnt rate the new coach and as yet nobody to replace mate Suarez?
Another saga I fear that will come to nothing._____________________________

30th August 2020 at 3:44 pm #163438Well that’s it Adlab, is it really worth Barca digging their heels in with regards to Messi? Yes they’ll want some kind of fee but if he really does want to go, some compromise will have to be reached. Could they really justify a £200 mill fee for a 33 year old?

30th August 2020 at 4:10 pm #163452Mikus, normally not but this is Messi and I suspect if Barca let him go he’s probably going to cost something in that region.
He’s still the best player in the world in the opinion of many. Difficult to predict how this will all end.
Personally I would love to see Messi in the PL but if he comes that probably means everyone will be chasing City’s tails.

30th August 2020 at 4:18 pm #163454La Liga make official statement on the Messi situation which negates Messi’s presumed right to leave on a free and favours Barca and the existence of the buy out clause and the need to meet it or presumably reach an amicable agreement for the Messi transfer by a potential buyer with Barca.

30th August 2020 at 6:19 pm #163517The only caveat I have about the LaLiga statement is that facist who it comes from. We all know his stance on City from the CAS case. Messi’s lawyers may have a different view.
None of us on here can really comment without the detail of the actual contract.
Anyway it wont happen._____________________________

30th August 2020 at 6:29 pm #163526Just suppose this is about power and
Messi just wanting to have the say over the president, and suppose he gets his way. It won’t really change Barca’s plight at the moment. They are a club in decline who have not just been beaten in the CL for the last 3 years, they’ve been humiliated. It will be some years before they’re dominating again in the way that they used to. So what does Messi really gain? He’ll still be at a club in decline and transition. So I still think it could happen, though it will drag out big time. Also I think Barca have had their money’s worth out of him. And more fool them on blowing it on ill thought out signings over recent years._____________________________

30th August 2020 at 7:43 pm #163584Time has caught up with Barca and is happening to others Desperate people at barca now and will try every blocking move they can and squeeze as much money out of it as possible. The player, becomes irrelevant in these situations

30th August 2020 at 8:04 pm #163602Brian, Barca are doing nothing more than any top Club would do in similar circumstances were it KDB do you think that City would say we understand whatever you want to do it’s up to you? Of course they wouldn’t .
Barca are rightly standing their ground imo given the circumstances and the fact Messi is tied to a contract without he can prove different in a Court of Law which imo wouldn’t help anyone inc Messi himself.
