14th August 2024 at 7:21 pm #215239Oh donβt be so sensitive Chucky, I was just pointing out that you were speaking your usual bollocks. Iβve said there are huge question marks over him, but your bollocks is just bollocks.

14th August 2024 at 8:19 pm #215240De ligt is very good on the ball. I just think defensively he is a bit suspect
Still, he flourished under eth and may do again.

14th August 2024 at 10:06 pm #215241The Athletic has now explained the verbiage used. The term “exceptional” in this instance does not imply any special treatment – merely it is a term that is used by clubs in their accounts to explain costs that aren’t regular.
Per football finance expert Kieran Maguire, United have to declare their losses related to Covid because they are listed on the New York Stock Exchange and therefore must disclose more information. The Β£40m loss is attributed to the club cancelling their 2021 summer tour, debts incurred from commercial partners, United being unable to fulfil certain sponsorship obligations and rebates owed to broadcasters.
While United had to share their losses in publicly-available accounts, The Athletic’s report reveals that their Premier League rivals used a private method to submit details of Covid-linked losses. Clubs were allowed to incorporate the financial impact of Covid in their PSR calculations, which explains how United and others were able to avoid being penalised.
That Β£1m was a made up figure. We do not know what other clubs were paid too.
Some ex City guy says something because he cannot accept the charges he ex club is facing and is now taking nonsense and taking things out of context to divert the attention.

14th August 2024 at 10:14 pm #215242Happy with the De Ligt signing. Better than who we have at CB besides from Martinez. Get rid of Maguire and Lindelof, along with Sancho and McTominay. Get in a solid DM.

15th August 2024 at 6:38 am #215243Hope youβre all well! Not been on for a while as Iβve been busy. Not sure on De Ligt myself but I know some Bayern fans and theyβre really annoyed by it. They had a petition which got 80,000 signatures asking for him to be kept so he was clearly popular amongst the fans. Could go either way for me

I think heβll be decent enough without being a revolutionary signing for us. This obsession with turning us into Ajax 2.0 is confusing and downright dangerous in the (likely) event Ten Hag is given his marching orders unless he starts this season absolutely flying.

Timber at Arsenal. I know he joined last summer but as he didnβt really play because of injury, I think he qualifies.Disappointing

Villa. Reckon theyβll drop into the EL and Emery will do what he does best in that competition.General comments
I think there are so many unknowns this season. Chelsea and Liverpool will get off to fliers with the new manager bounce. The time to judge them both will be after Christmas in the run in. Utd are a big unknown. As Sean said, if they go back to that open midfield, Ten Hag will be hanging on and the shouts for Ruud to step in will be deafening. Spurs will play their high risk football which will look good in the stats but ultimately deliver very little imo. Arsenal and City a step above the rest and will, I think, have a closely fought battle for the league. City will surely go into the market for some firepower with Alvarez now gone and Bobb injured. Canβt wait now!_____________________________

15th August 2024 at 7:24 am #215245Good to have you back ed! Villus is a very interesting one. I think cl football might hamper them but emery has done a remarkable job there and they have mings, ramsey and beuendia back so you could be right
Cm, ye ugarte be a great signing for utd and could still happen.
Chelsea just look such a mess and everyone is tipping the manager gone by dec but maybe they might be the real surprise of tye season. Amount of signings is mad
Why are liverpool selling their young players now? Clark 10m, rumours doak going. Is it because we need the money. No contract renewal for vvd and mo but nost comcerning is trent.3 who could leave for free. I also think alisson is going next season with us looking to sign that keeper. I defo think vvd and mo are going as we dont out big contracts to over 32 year olds
My concern is we have no proper 6 to protect the defence . We have to stop conceding so many goals. Ive no idea what to expect but predicting 4th based on the squad.

15th August 2024 at 12:41 pm #215248On the surface, it may seem like things havenβt changed enough with the teams at the top to have an impact to significantly shake things up. In some ways I think this season will track similar to this F1 season where although Verstappen is leading again, he isnβt able to quite dominate in the way he previously has because the car isnβt quite as strong and you have a mixture of teams able to win a few races now.
However, Iβm quite hopeful with Slot at Liverpool. Although we have yet to strengthen the areas that cost us last season – that is some more steel in midfield to control games and some better finishers up top, I think Slot will be a lot more refined/controlled with the way we play and that could have a big impact. I also expect us to still strengthen some of those areas before the window closes. I still donβt think Arsenal are extraordinary enough to win it outright because they still lack world class ability up top unless that changes before the window closes.
As for the others, whilst Man Utd are bringing in players, some of whom Ten Hag has worked with, again I donβt see anything extraordinary about them, particularly up top, though the new players may help Ten Hag play more his way. As for Chelsea, just when they seemed to be getting some stability last season, they remove the manager and buy more players again. I just donβt see how that helps the harmony in the team? Spurs will be exciting again but will struggle with consistency. Villa will probably struggle with all the competitions, though Newcastle may recover quite a bit from last season. Itβs a bold prediction and maybe part of is it just me getting a bit bored of predicting City to win every year, but Iβll go forβ¦
1) Liverpool
2) Man City
3) Arsenal
4) Man Utd
5) Newcastle
6) Spurs
7) Chelsea
8) Villa_____________________________

15th August 2024 at 1:00 pm #215249Solenko (his name is Solanke) (19 at Bournemouth who created nothing, reckon heβll get 30 plus at Spuds)
This isn’t entirely true. Bournemouth were 12th in big chances created last season, level with Man United with 60.
9th for most shots with 542 shots, more than Villa. Bournemouth were good last season.

15th August 2024 at 9:27 pm #215256Seeing a lot of this kind of thing from Bayern fans Threeps. Do you genuinely not rate the guy? I haven’t seen much of him since he went to Bayern but he seems massively rated by the Bayern fans

16th August 2024 at 8:07 am #215257It’s his lack of mobility Ed that’s the issue. Good on the ball, big and strong, very good when facing the ball but like Maguire hasn’t the turn of speed when it’s played behind or around him. He struggles against nimble forwards. He has overall pace to some degree when up and running, a bit like what we had with Matip. Those over his shoulder balls really caught him out because he couldn’t turn and accelerate fast enough and I think de Ligt will have the same issues.
I say he is good on the ball and he is when playing from the back but apparently was dropped at BM because Tuchel wanted long diagonals to the forwards from his centre back and De Ligt isn’t good at. Probably under Ten Hag this won’t be an issue due to play style.

16th August 2024 at 8:24 am #215258The prove be in the pudding if utd stop conceding do many goals. I know tactics can play a big part in conceding goals but so can personal as shown when we sign vvd.
When maguire signed i said the exact sane thing threeps. Maguire was not mobile enough. Always in trouble when on he turn and the ball played out wide i got pelters on here saying that and i absolutely did believe at that tome johnny evans was a better player and he was at wba or Leicester
De ligt is a much better player then dier. This signing had divided people so just lets see how he gets on
Mateinez is a good player but hes not exceptional, players drop the shoulder and hes done as shown by bobb on sat. Lovely left foot and really aggressive but even in his 1st season utd conceded loads of goals. He can be so easy to get by but he was a niss last season
Im not having a go here.its just my opinion and i could be well wrong now and both have a great season. Top top defenders come into teams and make huge differences. If utd play like last year then it gives ligt and martinz no protection and no chance.
If utd play like they did againest city twice recently then they look really solid. Real aggressive press and everyone working hard. The back 4 is more protected as well. Interesting to see how this all pans out

16th August 2024 at 9:37 am #215260In fairness Sean I don’t think Utd fans think he is the answer, more a stop gap signing who is better than Maguire, Evans, Lindelof. I think Yoro will play, when he is fit, with Martinez. Yoro has the pace De Ligt lacks.
The discussion gets lost when idiots like Chucky make stuff up which clearly isn’t true. De Ligt has question marks over him, two big moves and there are question marks which must mean he is not the player he promised to be when he broke through. I think Utd fans are well aware of that, but when people say he is fourth choice at Bayern when their manager said otherwise, and he was always picked when fit, means any decent discussion on him is wasted as there is no point trying to have a grown up discussion with someone who clearly has no interest in that.
