I have a quite a few music boxes with my own library of downloaded songs, still can’t decide which is the best one so kept them all. But marvel moos you also a guitarist as I am but obviously not in your class , we all know your talents have no bounds. But on a serious side listening to good music is the best uplifter you can get. I even sleep with my cell playing music the whole night. Lots of angelic music to sooth the night out though I do love all those musicians mentioned here too especially the earlier rock bands even though most were also before my time, just proves top quality music never dies, ask Beethoven, Mozart, Tchaikovsky.

7th September 2021 at 9:50 pm #184593Yeah that’s true nil mate. I remember when I got first lap top ripping all my cds to media player, loved my music collection but all my cds are ruined now as I never looked after them and that lap top long gone with no back up of my teenage collection.
That’s why I am so thankful for Spotify now because its all there when ai need it and no skipping of tracks through scratched disks!
Although the artists are really ripped off with the way Spotify and publishing companies have it set up with the bands getting hardly any returns I hope that changes it’s not good.

7th September 2021 at 10:18 pm #184597Spotify is great too but I have free version I don’t pay for anything online, still great though, Musicolet is possibly the best music app free plus it plays offline as well. I still have all my cd’s use them in the car only, had 1000s of cassettes too gave them all away to an animal welfare.

7th September 2021 at 10:27 pm #184600Lucky, I had that experience mate with the loss of files due to my Lap top breaking down. If not already, just get the music backed onto an External Hard drive. I have one that’s 500 GB. 1 TB should be enough mate. Yeah, I can see the benefits of Spotify.
I like VEVO from my TV Streaming π For years, I’ve been using Virtual DJ to be able to make mixes, add effects and change the Pitch. I’ll record a set, copy a file onto my phone, then blast it at work on an early morning or a late shift π

7th September 2021 at 10:57 pm #184602A great feature I like on Spotify is the daily drive playlist. Only started using it a year after starting using Spotify but that’s when it’s best because the more of your favourite music you play the more Spotify can recognise what you like.
It basically creates a playlist based on the music you love and mixes it with short news podcasts and other podcasts based on what you like so I get talksport and short science features and general interest podcasts mixed with music that I am never disappointed with. Its like your own little radio show that always surprises and satisfies me with its selections.
It’s very good at grouping songs together based on mood and tempo too because the songs come in 4 or 5’s between the news and other stuff and they always seem to be very well suited as short playlists on their own, then it goes to news and when it comes back it’s another 4/5 songs but instead of selecting from my fave guitar based songs again it gives me a selection of more mellow music say massive attack/future sound of london/orbital stuff like that. I will get the smiths in same selection as the cure and oasis with the verve, its so smooth but again you really have to listen to all the types of music you like thoroughly and repeat your favourites for it to work at its best.

7th September 2021 at 11:09 pm #184603AnonymousSince we’re doing recommends. I’d highly recommend people give Bowie’s 70’s albums a proper listen. It can take a few listens before a lot of it grips you but when it does, it won’t let go.
I started with ‘Station to Station’. it isnt everyones favourite. He had looked back himself, saying that he really disliked the character he played around this time ‘The Thin White Duke’. He was in the middle of his most intense cocaine addicted times. It wasnt fun for him but the album was a cracker.
there’s one song on it that doesnt fit at all ‘Golden Years’. It sounded much more like something off the previous album Young Americans, which was heavily influenced by American soul music. He wrote Golden Years for Elvis, believe it or not. Elvis then turned it down and Bowie just did it himself and threw it into this album.
LD, I didnt actually know that song. I was very late to the Soundgarden/Audioslave and Alice in Chains scene. I really only knew a few Soundgarden songs when Audioslave’s first album was released and that is where my real interest started, I think. I didnt go back and listen to everything, even if I did a fair bit.

7th September 2021 at 11:14 pm #184605AnonymousLD, I only got Spotify a few months ago and I thought it would be something I’d be trying and then cancelling but I’ve kept it for the reason’s you’ve stated above. I’ve found the recommends to be very useful, even if I listen to a mish-mash of styles. As you say, it compartmentalizes them to a good extent. So, the trash pop music I like to listen to when playing Rocket League, it’s the same stuff that I’ll play when I hop in the shower etc.

8th September 2021 at 9:24 am #184609Spotify is actually spying on your devices as many of those playlists it creates are generated from other apps one uses, in fact it generates playlists of anything you listen too even if you not actively usuing Spotify, I’m not worried about as it’s a bonus for convenient music playlists depending what you feel like listening too. It even names the playlists after your name. So it’s not an exactly private application.

8th September 2021 at 9:33 am #184611I’m not to familiar with the set up. Can you purchase tracks individually? It sounds as though from my knowledge it’s more of a rental service.
Just something to be careful of of course is making sure you have enough data from your mobile network provider.
Recommendations can be an eye-opener sometimes and a good way to build on your existing collection just to keep things fresh.

8th September 2021 at 10:06 am #184612Nike, not sure about anyone else in the house but I never buy data it gets chewed up too quickly and becomes extremely expensive, we have uncapped wifi at a reasonable monthly cost, so everyone can go online permanently with any amount of devices. And it’s always at a good speed too. Nowadays like the rest of the world most of us work directly from home so we don’t really need expensive data unless you go somewhere and you need to go online which is hardly ever in my case. By the way you can purchase music on Spotify though I don’t see why you would do that cause you get about nearly everything for free or you can use Music juice via a web browser which converts video to audio for your music box, anything you want is normally there.

8th September 2021 at 10:37 am #184613Yeah, true Blaze. Effectively, all my downloading and streaming is done from home. And we too have multi-devices and persons using so it’s cost effective.
Mobile Data can be expensive and you can end up paying a hefty phone bill if your go outside your limit. I’m shopping around at the moment for a new deal as I’m out of contract. Sim Only packages with data though are probably better suited.
That’s great that you buy tunes to build up your own library. From what I’ve experienced, the sound is of high quality and clear.
I’m led to believe too, some of the Receivers out on the market will allow you to stream and play your music.

8th September 2021 at 10:56 am #184615Spotify you can download songs over your WiFi and then play them data free when youβre out and about.
I also have an internet radio which is brilliant, thousands of stations, covers all genres and you have stations of just one band.

8th September 2021 at 11:45 am #184616I’ve got that “Apple Music” thing myself, seemed logical as I have a iPhone/Mac things for work… a few issues “merging” it with all the iPod collection on the computer, but once I got that working, all good… been downloading like a looney and creating a bizillian playlists… not to fussed about on-line “radio” type things, just like what I like and stick it on the playlist.

8th September 2021 at 12:10 pm #184620Pagan I use Caprice Radio which has genres I never even knew existed but as you say there are a lot of others as well many even have radio stations that only play music from each decade the 20s and upwards. I kinda like the war songs of both world wars has a certain nostalgia to it.

10th September 2021 at 6:47 am #184719I see trailers for Matrix 4 are dropping everywhere on the interweb, feel a little bit cheated about it, as it certainly looks like a bit more of a “re-boot” than a continuation… but I’m still going to see it though!! Going to set in the back with Buffy and share a big box of popcorn and I promise not to cut a hole in the bottom of the box!!!
