I hope Stirling doesnt bother with England anymore, the amount of hate he gets off the media and fans. Who could blame him if he retired. He should stick to winning stuff with City. Scholes retired for far less of a reason.

12th September 2018 at 6:31 am #26186Bloody hell Eddy, Kane hasn’t been as brilliant as he has been, not even going to try and defend that, but do you really think he deserves to be dropped for somebody who hasn’t scored for 26 games and somebody who can’t even get in a side in front of a lump like Lukkacukcoo? Really? What happened to class is permanent form is temporary?
Kane deserves a mental rest, that’s all, but to drop him for these two? Bloody hell man, put down the Finnish Fire Water, it’s way too early for that…. 🙂

12th September 2018 at 7:08 am #26187Chucky, I’d certainly look at giving Kane a rest, yes. I’m not necessarily saying Rashford is the answer. He hasn’t got a great record either and doesn’t start enough games but I think it’s time Kane felt a bit of pressure for his spot and doesn’t take it for granted. He’s probably the best striker in the world but he’s been poor now for a number of games. He doesn’t do enough when he’s not scoring IMO.
Jim, it wouldn’t surprise me if he did. I really lose a lot of respect for players who quit international football, Scholes included. Personally, I think Sterling is a really important player for England but that doesn’t mean he should take his place for granted. Even you said during the WC that Sterling should go off for Rashford. He hasn’t been good enough for England for a while. Dropping him for a few games will do him good I think. Nothing to do with hate, that’s for sure!

12th September 2018 at 7:13 am #26188Plenty of hate from the media against sterling, some of them have had a vendetta agaisnt him since he had the temerity to further his career and leave LFC. This campaign has stirred up the fan hate. That aside his performances haven’t been great.

12th September 2018 at 8:59 am #26192There’s no doubt that Sterling with his ability should be scoring more goals for England and Southgate has to find a way of helping him to do that.
I don’t think Sterling would turn his back on his country at least I hope he wouldn’t but he does get heavily criticised both in the press and on line.
For Rashford to develop as an England player he needs to be playing regularly in the PL and it’s difficult to see him doing that at United currently.
The midfield last night with two players with just circa 40 minutes between them was not up to the job and I don’t think you can select players to play for England who aren’t playing regularly for their club’s and Foden who might be the answers creatively unfortunately falls into that category too. It’s probably time for Southgate to cast his net out further and have a look at the Maddison’s and Gray’s of this world and hope that one or to others emerge from the U 21’s too.
Kane has been poor for a while and despite the golden boot he had a poor WC in a lot of people’s opinion he’s a great goal scorer when he’s on form but he’s currently a shadow of his former self he either has to play himself back into form or have a rest.
The good news was that we won and stopped a run of 4 defeats which would have been a mill stone around Southgate’s neck. Still more questions than answers though.

12th September 2018 at 9:22 am #26194Didn’t see last nights game so I can’t really comment on that (the press are saying Rose did well mind you, about time he showed some pre-injury form!), and considering it was practically Engerlands “B” team in a friendly I wouldn’t read too much into it at all (Sorry Danny!).
Surprised about the tonking Spain gave Croatia…
Hopefully Harry is saving them up for Saturday’s game, we need him to have his shooting boots on for sure. And Son is back too… with Ali injured and unlikely to play Saturday, could be interesting to see both Son and Lucas on the pitch playing either side of Erickson with Harry up top (in his PJ’s)

12th September 2018 at 11:46 am #26195Anonymousjim – people dont hate sterling. they are just very critical of him because in an england shirt he is beyond useless. put him in a city shirt and hes a world beater. look at his goals for city this season – they were brilliant. put him in an england team and he cant even control a ball. its not to do with surrounding players either because his goals for city have been individual brilliance.
the kane thing is amazing. golden boot winner at the world cup but not been good enough for a long time. without him england would’ve gone out in the group stage. scored as many goals as super salah so far this season, yet one is the greatest player to ever play football, the other is harry kane. last season even when he was rushed back from injury and so far short of full fitness he still scored in most games. at the moment hes completely off form yet still scoring. personally i thin picking him for the recent internationals was stupid. he should’ve been given a rest for his sake and englands because he’s going to do himself an injury – plus hes not good enough to play for england at the moment.

12th September 2018 at 12:47 pm #26197England have to find a solution to the lack of creativity in midfield between now and the Euros which will would then help Kane to do what he does best.

12th September 2018 at 12:53 pm #26199Anonymous999 – a very sensible statement. the service kane gets for england is non existent yet he has scored 19 goals in 32 games. i think someone like madisson will potentially make a big difference. only watched him a couple of times but he really looks a talent. think if lallana gets a few games for liverpool then he can work his way back in to the england team as well. wont be easy though.

12th September 2018 at 12:57 pm #26200Sterling is funny one, has to be said, runs like a duck for City and plays like a duck for Engerland…

12th September 2018 at 1:03 pm #26201Forgot all about Lallaananana, but certainly agree about Madison, looked very good every time I’ve seen him play. If he keeps his head down he could have a very bright future…
For me, I think the issue with Harry is he seems to be playing in a more refined way for Engerland lately, trying to be a player he isn’t, dare I say more of a Looney Rooney or even a Teddy, rather than the slightly more “Bull In A China Shop” approach he has for Spuds. Don’t know if it’s managers tactics or, dread the thought, he’s getting a bit Billy Bigboots… hopefully it’s manager’s tactics…

12th September 2018 at 1:42 pm #26202Paxton, I was disappointed not to see Maddison included this time around especially when unlike RLC and Delph he’s playing week in week out for his Club.
Hopefully he continues to develop and makes the squad for the October away games v Spain and Croatia where we will need someone to create for Kane to score.

12th September 2018 at 2:07 pm #26203If Sterling did decide to hang up his boots for England the majority of England fans would be pleased. Much of the media hates him and most fans think he isn’t good enough to play. Can’t have it both ways lads.

12th September 2018 at 3:03 pm #26212Don’t think the majority of Pommies would be complaining if the City version showed up in a Three Ducks shirt, that’s for sure… he seems to disappear every time he goes south of Watforjd.

12th September 2018 at 3:27 pm #26213Yeah it’s a real shame as he’s brilliant for City. Some players just don’t perform for their country for some reason and he may just be one of those. Then you get some players who seem to play better for their country. Lukaku a fine example. Always seems to be one of Belgium’s best players and can look useless at times for Utd. But I guess it’s a bit like the Kane problem in reverse. With Belgium, Lukaku has the luxury of having KDB, Hazard etc behind him.

12th September 2018 at 3:34 pm #26214Anonymoused – kane has 19 goals in 32 games. would hardly say he doesnt perform for england – unless i’m completely misunderstanding your point.

12th September 2018 at 3:55 pm #26215My point with Kane, Pax, was that I don’t think he’s been playing very well for England for a while. I know that seems harsh having just won the golden boot, but I don’t think his performances for England have been as good as I have expected of him. I appreciate his stats suggest otherwise and he’s obviously an extremely good striker, but I think he is capable of better, in regards to influencing games with his all round game, beyond his goals. To me, he’s one of those players who is invisible for a large chunk of a game, then pops up with a brilliant finish. It means that when he’s not got his shooting boots on, he’s offering very little to the team. Whether it’s the way we play, I don’t know. Maybe he’s just lacking form and I’m being overly critical. I just think he’s capable of more for England
