Carragher did say he was wrong about Martinez.
I like Neville. No problem with him.

6th March 2023 at 8:36 am #205069Agree with the Ed be much better to avoid ex players of the Clubs playing that day.
The footage of Carragher standing up celebrating every Liverpool goal like a fan on the Kop whilst commentating is imo unhelpful too.
I think both Carragher and Neville are both good pundits when they’re not commenting on their own Clubs games.

6th March 2023 at 8:45 am #205070I think that’s half the problem nine and the other part of it is the coverage their opinion gets relative to others.

6th March 2023 at 8:53 am #205072Agree re the Carragher footage Nine. They build so much of the coverage around those two and the Utd Liverpool rivalry that it’s even annoying for Utd and Liverpool fans so I can only imagine how nauseating it must be for other fans. It goes without saying that Carra is lucky he even still has a job after his antics in the car that time.

6th March 2023 at 9:14 am #205077Very rare have I taken the time, but when I have done, if you try watching a lower league game or a game from the Championship for example, the facet of the studio guests/pundits etc are a different make-up entirely.
Refreshing to watch and just a pure focus on the game in hand.
A Premier Channel with effectively a Monopoly can attract a global audience and a fan-base on WWW. Now in regular, that coverage is dissected cleverly into segments made with a headline and installed on You Tube to draw essentially ‘click-bait’ and hits etc. Neville and Carragher being more than established fit the profile quite simply.
Generally, they are likeable in my view in much smaller doses and rightly as mentioned when not involved commentating their former clubs.

6th March 2023 at 9:15 am #205079My personal fave is Premier Sports, but not available in England, only from streaming online.
Amazon too is likeable.

6th March 2023 at 9:20 am #205080One thing I disagree with Neville about is Anthony..did he call Anthony an entertainer yesterday? He was the most exspensive player on the pitch and he’s as average a player I’ve ever seen. He would drive me mad ad a fan.
But Neville had a right go about Bruno. I think he’s call it right most of the time. I enjoy listening to Carra and Neville.
Spot on Ed, carragher absolutely blessed to still have a job after what he did

6th March 2023 at 9:26 am #205081Antony has been a massive waste of money Sean. Scored some big, big goals but he looks to be a one trick pony with that long range last footed shot. Can’t beat a man, not very fast, loses the ball. Brazilians often take a while to settle in the PL so I won’t write him off just yet but it’s not looking good.

6th March 2023 at 9:46 am #205084Morning Ed…
I re read your comments after CM posting and see the “he” you mention was Neville not me… My apologies for rea ting to what in a quick read appeared to be CM and yourself having a pop at me for trolling with what I believe is a worthy point to discuss…….
Your clarification message did accuse me of not accepting other pundits bias, Carragher and Souness…. You need to re read my reply to your first…
You obviously miss understood “ I agree with most of the points you make Ed, and accept opinion before or after a game but tell me another pundit who live, during the match, repeatedly shows his allegiance and offers an utterly false narrative!”
If I insert the word biased before the word opinion…
This might also address your concern that I only expect people to agree with everything I post…?I also accept bias was possibly the wrong word to use too, although if any opponent supporter look for it they will find plenty of “one eyed narrative”…
I think Lucky nailed my opinion on Neville “it’s his modus operandi in general. Unlike commentators that call what they see in a game neville is always referring back to his own narratives. He’s convinced he knows more than other commentators.
Its not bias towards utd that’s the problem, it’s his damn ego and the blatant agendas he wears on his sleeves.”
Anyway… Time for fresh blood and new pundits but please keep Keane…_____________________________

6th March 2023 at 10:16 am #205087I do think some of these pundits have got too comfortable in their positions. Some of their predictions are getting embarrassing and any objectivity they did have seems to be eroding. Whether in this social media climate where there’s an almost encouragement to say provocative things to get hits is exacerbating things I don’t know, but I do think, like in all jobs, you should be periodically reviewed on the quality and accuracy of your output, and if you’re increasingly found wanting, you should be replaced by someone better. But as I say, with all the controversy it causes with social media, that culture is probably here to stay. Social media really has been a blight on our whole culture.

6th March 2023 at 10:27 am #205089No worries Mikey. I’d agree with that Sean. They should probably keep those two in the studio and not have them commentating. I don’t mind Micah Richards tbh. Him and Keane together are good. Agree on your worst ones. Gabby Agbonlahor is awful.

6th March 2023 at 12:20 pm #205093Personally I just think there’s a little too much exposure of them all and repetition. Change it and freshen it up. E.g. could the kick off not be moved to Saturday Night?
Ed, agree. Both Carra and Neville are splashed in each segment and they’re becoming a little like Ant and Dec; here there and everywhere. I think at times if anything, Souness and Keane feel slightly uncomfortable as they are a little more into a serious discussion. Kelly is an absolute Star for holding everything together; she’s a lovely lady and presenter, modest and mild-mannered.
You need a little bit of personality and lightheartedness too. It can’t all be serious, otherwise it’s not good for the mind, body and soul. United have suffered embarrassing defeats in the past, but not too many and they will bounce back. It’s easy to start criticizing Dalot for example who I think should keep his place. In my view, you need to get rid of Fernandes and just integrate your depth a little better. Weghorst for example I thought was isolated and a stranger; imagine if he and Anthony linked up.
We’re now beginning to see that in Gakpo and Nunez. I lambasted Nunez and was one of his biggest critics but Klopp’s stuck by and kept faith and it’s paying off. Crystal Palace last Saturday if anything was embarrassing and a complete damp squib.

6th March 2023 at 1:51 pm #205097I sctuskky just listened to Neville’s after match opinion and made me laugh. He gives us no real credit and says a utd team litters with experience just decayed.
We deserve a bit of credit. Utd players just down tools , it’s not just a bad day. It’s complete humiliation and I’d be disgusted with my team to perform like that at their biggest rivals. Apologies utd fans, I’m. Not hsving a go. It’s more Neville’s comments then anything. He said we played alright. We were still swarming utd players at 7-0and we were very good . I hope he is Monday night football tonight
It was 7-0. It’s absolutely crazy to think that with his comments

6th March 2023 at 3:37 pm #205100He should have given Liverpool more credit, without doubt. I can kind of get where he’s coming from though. Liverpool were good, very good even. But it was something like 5-0 then 6-0 from as many shots on goal. That just doesn’t happen usually. It was not really a 7-0 game. Xg had it at 3-1 based on quality of the chances. Some of the goals were just crazy how they bobbled around and then landed at a Liverpool player’s feet. That’s not to take any credit away from Liverpool but this wasn’t a 90min onslaught as we saw last season. This was a close 1st half where we probably even edged it followed by a total collapse in the second by us. I realise that might sound incredibly blinkered. Absolutely no complaints about the result.

6th March 2023 at 4:05 pm #205101Sorry Ed, they didn’t just bobble around mate, it was from poor defending. Look at shaws attempted clearance for goal 6.. terrible defending, mctwoniey sticks a leg out with a feeble attempt for the ball and Salah finishes on his weaker foot
We are not talking about luck here. Nunez two headers cause he’s the first to react. Martinez skint for the third goal with a great finish. It was atrocious defending more then the ball simply bobbling about . The players gave up after goal 3. It was absolutely bizarre. That shows a complete lack of character which was hugely surprising 2nd to every ball ,not running back and basically giving up. That was the problem, not luck or the ball bobbling about. They just lost their heads completely and it was astonishing to see as this team has shown big character this season.
Enough has been said about it from my side in anyway chum

6th March 2023 at 4:17 pm #205103I’m definitely not saying it was lucky Sean. Just that it was one of those games where everything went for you and nothing for us. When xg has a 2 goal difference and the actual difference is 7 goals, it tends to suggest that the result is not a true reflection of the quality of the chances in the game.

6th March 2023 at 4:21 pm #205104That’s the point I think Neville was trying to make, albeit poorly.
