18th March 2018 at 8:35 am #18294AnonymousThis comparison has been everywhere for ages Nil. It’s a good enough one though given how there aren’t many besides Messi who can score some of the goals he’s gotten for us so far.

18th March 2018 at 8:43 am #18296Lol comparing Salah to Messi is laughable, sorry guys. Once Salah has had say 3 or 4 seasons like this then maybe he can be classed as “up there” but right now after nearly 1 season is crazy.

18th March 2018 at 9:03 am #18301Agree with Goat it’s laughable.
Messi has averaged circa 40 goals a season across 14 season and Messi is probably the best player in the World. Salah is having a great season but compare him to Messi in four years time when he’s done it every season as Messi has.

18th March 2018 at 11:02 am #18319“You have doubts that Man City with Messi can win the Champions League? Or Arsenal with Messi can win the Champions League? Or Chelsea with Messi can win the Champions League? Or Man United with Messi can win the Champions League? I think so.”
“One thing is a team. Another thing is a team with Messi. I’m not saying they will always win. I am saying that a team with that boy is a different team, is a different story.”
After voicing his appreciation of Messi, Mourinho wasted no time in taking a swipe at his old enemy Pep Guardiola. Pep won two Champions League titles at Barcelona with Messi, but Mourinho says that’s no big deal. Mourinho claims any ol’ eejit could win the competition with a player of Messi’s quality.
“He played a Champions League final with [Frank] Rijkaard. He played a Champions League final with Guardiola. He – normally – is playing a Champions League final with Luis Enrique. And if one day he plays for Anthony (a generic Portuguese name), then Anthony will go to a Champions League final with him.”
Jose on Messi!?

18th March 2018 at 11:55 am #18338The first goal of Salah’s yesterday was just textbook. He is so gifted to be able to dribble his way in those tight areas and find the back of the net – reminded me a little of Torres against West Ham at Upton Park circa 2009.

18th March 2018 at 5:58 pm #18370AnonymousSalah has been incredible this season but people are going well over the top comparing him to Messi. People still question kanes credentials until he wins trophies for club or country, yet Salah after one top season is up there with Messi despite not doing anything that Kane supposedly has to achieve. Let th geezer just enjoy his football and bang in the goals without putting extra pressure on him comparing him to the greatest footballer of all time.

That is a bit early to compare him to Messi. but there is no doubt that Salah is on the right track to reach that level. scoring 28 league goals in his first season back in England is not easy feat to achieve. clearly he is in the form of his life. the favourite for the PFA and FWA awards. and possibly short listed for the Ballon D’orr. that is a fantastic feat to achieve. but still not in Messi level though.

18th March 2018 at 9:17 pm #18390C Man,
you’re right and I fully agree with Pax too.
This was sort of an admittedly mischievous and a fun thread I put out 🙂
4 Goals though in the Snow.
Could Messi deliver the same on a cold night in Stoke, haha 😛 🙂 😉

18th March 2018 at 9:24 pm #18393Messi could do it anywhere in Sun, rain, fog and snow too. He’s the best I’ve ever seen and is much more than just a circa 40 goals a season over 14 seasons type of player.

19th March 2018 at 7:26 am #18398AnonymousIts a little too easy to sit back and say that it’s pathetic or laughable or whatever. Like it or not, the comparisons between Salah and Messi are out there, they are everywhere. Messi is the ultimate benchmark but further than that, his ability to needle his way through defences is a skill that Salah shares.
The media love comparing players to Messi whether you like it or not, however, you’re just wrong in suggesting that any player needs to be at a certain level for 3 or 4 years before you can compare him to Messi. The vast majority of times that you look at stats, they are seasonal. The major awards out there (the Ballon Dor) included, are annual/seasonal. Any player out there only has to be better than him for one year to win the Ballon Dor ahead of him.
As things stand right now, this season, Salah is out performing Messi.

19th March 2018 at 7:30 am #18400Messi has been scoring double digits since 2006. He was 18-19 years old back then. The only player that should be compared to that brilliant little garden gnome is Cristiano Ronaldo, and I wouldn’t even say that he’s as brilliant.
Messi is the best of our generation by a mile IMO. Salah is now 25-26 and this is his first season playing on a level were he can be labelled as worldclass. His age considered I doubt he’ll ever do enough to be mentioned in the same breath as Messi. But no shame in that. In our generation probably only Ronaldo will.
Salah is a fantastic player. But Messi is out of this world.
