Brilliant display by Burnley @ OT,never a pen for me in a gazillion years.
But Goldie says it was because the big Jesse had his shirt tugged… 🙂

30th January 2019 at 10:28 am #32442But it wasn’t a dive, was it? (According to the puppy, 🙂 ) There was ‘contact’…
I think the shirt was somehow sown onto both his socks and activated his secret invisible jet-packs built in his boots…

30th January 2019 at 10:56 am #32444AnonymousNine, even if we manage to win tonight, there’s just no chance in hell that I’m calling it. I would love to get carried away but we’ve seen it too many times, where an extended dip in form can ruin an entire season. Couple that with the difficulty of the PL and it’s rather unpredictable nature, it’s just too soon to even say that it would take a huge cock-up on Liverpool’s part for it not to happen.
Really, it’ll only take a dip, which we haven’t had yet (results-wise, even though the performance against Palace was quite poor).
What Liverpool need to do is go out there tonight and get themselves that insurance because we will drop points. We have 3 really tough games left, that’s 9 points right there if it doesn’t go well.
If it’s true that Van Dijk and Wijnaldum are fit enough to start then I’ll definitely start feeling a lot more positive about tonight but the PL overall has to wait. We have games to win first 😉

30th January 2019 at 11:04 am #32445Mak, of course nobody can call it until it’s a 7 point lead with two games to go but if Liverpool win tonight and I’m sure they will it’s Liverpool’s title to lose and I can’t see this Liverpool team throwing it away from there.

30th January 2019 at 11:07 am #32446Chucky, if a player has his shirt tugged in the box it’s a foul because he’s been impeded and if the Ref sees it he will blow for a penalty thems the rules mate!
ANSWER PROVIDED BY REFEREE JASON WRIGHT
If a player is guilty of holding an opponent (which is what shirt pulling falls under) then a direct free kick is to be awarded. If it’s a defensive player in his own penalty area, it’s a penalty kick._____________________________

30th January 2019 at 11:26 am #32449Nine you’ve made a few positive predictions about Liverpool in recent seasons & they haven’t exactly turned out well so please do us a favour & don’t ?.
I think we will get the cookies this game but it wouldn’t surprise me if we drop points. It’s not like we are playing awesome & teams can’t keep up with us like a lot of last season. We are JUST scraping through games & getting the job done. Vardy against what could well be a make shift D doesn’t exactly fill me with confidence. The extra steel we now have, along with home ground advantage makes me think we should win but I wouldn’t rule out dropping points._____________________________

30th January 2019 at 12:24 pm #32450Oz, it’s just essentially factoring mate that whoever we play, they’re going to have an assignation of their own, purely because we are counting down and working towards the tail-end of the season.
Even those teams sort of just going through the motions can’t afford back to back defeats regularly because it will bemuse supporters who will get on the back of players and management and this subsequently generates pressure.
Nobody essentially is in for an easy ride wherever they are. As far as alluding to this particular fixture, Claude Puel knows his own position is on the line so he’d be looking to avoid defeat tonight.

30th January 2019 at 12:31 pm #32452Chucky, if a player has his shirt tugged in the box it’s a foul because he’s been impeded and if the Ref sees it he will blow for a penalty thems the rules mate!
Never said it wasn’t a rule…
Let me explain it simply cyber chum!! It’s a stupid rule, and leaves us with the situation, a classic example happened last night, when an attacking player feels a little tug, and rather than play the game, he turns into some tart from Swan Lake, goes all theatrical and does his best for an Oscar.
Technically, yes, it was a foul (afterall football is now a contact sport it seems), but was it really a foul? Or was it just a big Jesse making both a meal out of it and a mockery of the rules, and generally pissing all over the game we all love?
we’ll never know if a goal scoring opportunity was missed, as big Jesse took the “cheat” option… and that, regradless of who does it, is a stain on the game.
Sorry, cyber chum, simply saying them’s the rules is just like saying “he did well to win a penalty there”, “he was entitled to go down” and all the other crappy excuses players/pundits/managers come out with to excuse CHEATING

30th January 2019 at 12:34 pm #32453One of the best seasons ever as a Liverpool supporter was 2001 when we won 5 pieces of Sliverware. We’ve been chasing the League Title for years and one could argue we should have in the last 30 sewn up at least 5 Titles:
1988/89 – Just sheer bad luck and our fault for not seeing out the closing minutes
1990/91 – Dalglish leaving – Souness messing it up
1996/97 – Our players just not dedicated or resilient enough to see the job through
2002/03 – League Leaders a lot of the time, but couldn’t sustain our position
2000/09 – Too many points dropped at home – Rafa’s ‘rant’ too!
2013/14 – Brendan’s tactics all wrong and mentality of the players
2018/19 – Time will tell – has Klopp researched all of the above?! Haha 🙂

30th January 2019 at 12:39 pm #32455I do hope Wijn starts and is paired with Henderson tonight. If Fabinho’s dropped in defence and Kieta doesn’t start, then that paves way for Shaquiri.
Hope Sturridge can get a run out too.

30th January 2019 at 12:48 pm #32456AnonymousI’m happy with all that except for Sturridge getting a run out. Look, I’ve been a huge supporter of his over the years. I have also been critical of him for being lazy. Putting it all aside though, he’s not good enough to ever play for this club again. His last few “performances” were just atrocious and honestly, it left me with a bitter taste in my mouth. I mean, if playing for this team under Klopp doesn’t motivate you to give 100% then you just don’t belong at a top club.
Were I Klopp i’d have released Sturridge from his contract and signed a striker. Well, I’d not have let Solanke go actually but ya..

30th January 2019 at 1:46 pm #32457Oz, I’m predicting a Liverpool title win providing they don’t throw it away mate which I don’t think they will. I just can’t see City pulling back 7 points against this Liverpool team.
I’m sticking with my prediction that it’s Liverpool’s to lose now but whatever I say wont have any impact on whether Liverpool win it or don’t win it nor will Liverpool fans nit getting carried away only the Liverpool players getting carried away woukd have any sort of impact and I can’t see Klopp allowing that.
Tickets are trading at £6,000 according to the press for Liverpool’s last home game of the Season to see Liverpool lift their first League title in almost 30 years. Ridiculous money but it’s been a long time and I guess some will pay it. Cheers 999

30th January 2019 at 1:53 pm #32459Chucky, I was speaking generally I haven’t seen the Lingard incident.
I’m definitely not excusing cheating read my post to threeps but without they change the rules and make exaggeration an offence which will be even more difficult to judge I’m not sure what can be done about it.
Almost every single player in every single team once they feel contact tends to exaggerate that contact. If we start banning a few of them it might make a difference and the rules and the panel are in place to do that.

30th January 2019 at 1:57 pm #32460That we can agree on (actually banning them), but last night was no difference from a million others over the last few years… like I said, there was limited contact (no where near enough for that sort of reaction!), and he went down like a sack of potatoes (after going about 5 feet in the air)….
Still think you can do both… have a peno for the contact but get a booking for being a prat about it!! Then the ref can do both, and not do the usual of pretending they saw nothing.
And with all due respect cyber chum, I will still say anybody who trots out the often heard “there was contact so…” line is pretty much condoning it my humble opinion.
Best to go and watch the “incident” to be honest, then you might have a better understanding as to where I’m coming from…

30th January 2019 at 2:00 pm #32462Chucky, but booking a player for exaggeration won’t stop them doing it all they care about is winning a penalty. Maybe three yellow for exaggeration equals a 2 match ban might help.

30th January 2019 at 2:06 pm #32463Liverpool have only dropped 9 points in 23 games and 5 of those points dropped were against City who they don’t play again.
Liverpool would have to trip up considerably to drop 7 points in the 15 games left and that would still leave City needing to win every game.
It would take an injury crisis and a major cock up by Liverpool to let City back in if Liverpool go 7 points clear tonight.
