31st January 2019 at 11:07 am #32580Oz@1:19am Oz, here’s what I said in context Liverpool looked nervous tonight probably in the knowledge that 7 points would have all but tied it up.
A 5 point lead just about leaves City in with a chance albeit a faint chance.
I’m happy to admit feint chance was probably misplaced what I was trying to convey was that Liverpool had the chance last night to all but shut the door on City and a 7 point lead would have been a significant psychological blow to City now Liverpool have left the door ajar.
If Liverpool can hold their nerve I still think they will win it as do the bookies based on the latest Sky Bet Odds Liverpool 4/9 on City 13/8 against Spurs 33/1.
There’s always twists and turns in a title race mate and while Sean is understandably peeved at people saying Liverpool have blown it I’m getting pelters for saying I think Liverpool will still win it but they can’t afford to let City get within a couple of points of them with the same number of games played because then it will get very nervy and I’m not sure how Liverpool might handle that.
But it’s still Liverpool’s title to lose and I would still rather be in Liverpool’s shoes than City’s.

31st January 2019 at 11:16 am #32583Nine if we were playing well maybe but we aren’t playing well, I’m not making this up just watch our games, we have rode our luck a lot lately, injuries are piling up, only Mane looks like doing anything up top & c$ty have pretty much all their big guns back in action. 5 points is absolutely nothing with 14 games to go. We will not beat manu at their joint for one & unless we get players back in form we will lose a few more games.
Chucky just wait till seasons end & you’ll see why they are rated by many as the best ever EPL side. They will win it & have had 5 or so of their best players out for around a month. I suppose with the money they’ve spent you’d expect them to be this dominant & I think that’s what you’ll see as the season comes to a close._____________________________

31st January 2019 at 11:28 am #32584Nine morning mate, generally all good from my end.
There are people from various quarters be it fans or the media basically trying to influence your thoughts.
I’ve remained consistent up to now that even 10 points doesn’t mean one hand on the title.
The let downs from numerous cup finals and one previous genuine title challenge leaves unhealef scars. At times admittedly, preciousness and desperation has been shown by us.
Hard to suck up at times when now I’m seeing or hearing “only 5 points for City to catch”. Views change barely 24 hours gone. Before our game was played, we were allegedly champions.
People just too quick to react sometimes with some sort of a verdict rather than to allow nature to take it’s course.
Lots of key fixtures to unravel and as they say, time will be the ultimate judge. Cheers ?⚽️☕?

31st January 2019 at 11:35 am #32585Oz, did you watch the City game v Newcastle City were very poor too.
Still all to play for mate and everyone connected with Liverpool would have gladly taken a 5 point lead at this stage had it been on offer at the beginning of the season.
I think there’s been a massive overreaction to last night’s draw had both the City and the Liverpool games gone the way everyone expected the gap would have remained at 4 points it’s now been extended to 5 points and Leicester on their day are a dangerous team capable of giving anyone a game.

31st January 2019 at 11:55 am #32588That’s a good point Nine about City’s last game that I was going to make, everyone is going on about Liverpool’s supposed bad form but City were very lackluster against Newcastle (first half anyway, did’t see the second). No team is fantastic every single match, or has the right to win every match, not even City last season.
It’s all to play for. Some are convinced City will win, I’m sure there are people that are convinced Liverpool will win. I’m convinced the title is far from being settled and will take each game as it comes and enjoy the ride. 5 points isn’t a great deal, but I’d still rather being in Liverpool’s position than City’s or Spurs.

31st January 2019 at 1:35 pm #32593Anonymous87-58 , Chelsea need a 25 goal a season striker mate, Higuain will get goals and he needs to hit the ground running to push you up the league.
You’ve only conceded 23 goals which is the 3rd best in the league, you have the MF creators,I’m no mastermind contestant but everything but the striker is in place._____________________________

31st January 2019 at 1:37 pm #32594What’s gone wrong with Chelsea?
The football Napoli played under Sarri was a joy to watch. Although it relied on possession and intricate passing, it also focused on moving the ball forward as quickly as possible.
It was rightly hailed as some of the best football in Europe. To be fair, the first 10 or so games of this season we were playing that way, and honestly, I was amazed at how quickly the players seemed to adapt to this new style. For some unknown reason we have gone backwards rapidly and reverted to this god-awful ponderous, side passing football.
Two of the many problems I can see are: Firstly, the midfield three of Jorginho, Kante and Kovacic just doesn’t work. It just offers nothing in terms of goals or creativity, yet they get
regularly selected.Secondly, by the time we eventually get the ball into the final third the opposition’s defence is so well organised we have absolutely no idea what to do to create an opening. So we pass the ball back to midfield, and so it continues.
Sarri’s comments now about being unable to motivate the team are foolish because that’s his job And what is worse, if you know you are having trouble motivating certain players, why is he still picking them every week??!! And publicly criticising the players is just as foolish.
Pep was full of praise for Sarri when he was appointed claiming that Napoli were in his top 3 teams to watch last season. What the hell has happened….!!!
Firstly Jorginho has lost form and confidence and Chelsea don’t have a natural replacement, secondly Sarri needs to bend a bit on his tactics when they are not working and the midfield is just not creative enough.
Sarri ball is a myth it’s a high pressing possession based quick attacking football that a number of other teams play but it’s no good dominating possession as Chelsea are if there’s no end product. Higuain in is a move in the right direction imo if for no other reason it pushes Hazard out to the left in his best position.
I’m not sure Higuain is the long term answer to Chelsea’s striker connundrum and the Hazard to Real conjecture I don’t think is helping anyone but realistically to implement exactly how Sarri wants to play will take time and one or two new players. I would like to think he’ll get that time and at least next Summer and next season to try and implement the way he wants to play but this is Chelsea and he could be gone in the Summer if we don’t secure a CL place.
We are a team in transition though and Rome wasn’t built in a day but fans and owners don’t have any patience.

31st January 2019 at 1:42 pm #32597AnonymousNot sure if it’s kosher but Sky Sports have said Spurs turned down a loan deal for Michy Batshuayi, if that’s right that’s a criminal decision , Harry Kane is out for about 6 weeks so why, why, why FFS.

31st January 2019 at 1:46 pm #32598Ozzy… poor ickle City have had some injuries? You want the list for our physio room this season?
Like I said, it amuses me that the greatest team the Prem has ever seen, also happens to be the most expensive team the Prem has ever seen, with the greatest manager the Prem has ever seen, are only 2 points above my lads after 24 games, with all the issues my boys have had…
City may well end up winning it.. they might not.. who knows… but I think labeling them the greatest team ever based on one season (no matter how good that season is) is a bit PREMature…
Me, personally, I would say a team needs to retain it at least once for that label to be considered…. or even three times… as other teams have done.
Anyway, we’ll find out soon enough!

31st January 2019 at 2:13 pm #32601AnonymousIt ultimately comes down to Liverpool fans generally not liking everyone trying to pin the title to us before it’s done. If you allow people to do this and it goes wrong, they’ve qualified the “slip” nonsense.
We’ve generally got a very different mindset to 2013/14. The thing is, we annoyed the hell out of people back then. Neutrals thought we were counting our chickens before they hatched. Now we’re annoying people because we’re refusing to be per-emptively elected champions.
There’s a lot of bitterness coming from Utd fans (not on here). it hasn’t let up in my experience, even though they are playing really well themselves. Every opposition group sings about Gerrard slipping.. Ok lads, it’s been years now.
The feeling I get is that certain people want to help us get a bit carried away just so they can point the finger at us when it goes wrong. I mean, unlike Oz and maybe a few others, I call us favourites but I stop short by going any further because if City turn it on, they can win every single match from here on. It’s not beyond them to do exactly that. Can you say the same for Liverpool? Forget the form of both teams. I can’t see us doing that. We don’t have the squad for it.
It’s 60 : 40 in favour of us right now in my mind.

31st January 2019 at 2:58 pm #32602AnonymousChucky , MB has pace, can control the ball first time, scores goals and if given a chance I think he is a step up from Fernando who struggles with the speed the ball arrives to him . He has missed good chances when the ball arrived with pace, his control and reactions let him down. He missed 2 or 3 last night which I reckon were down to either his rustiness or his reactions. The goal he scored ( Legend) was from a Danny Rose cross and he had time to get up and place a header past the keeper, if we played like that all the time and he got a run he may surprise me, but we don’t play that way.
To me that was a missed chance to loan in a half decent striker.
I also don’t agree with the lack of transfers( in ) at Spurs, come the summer it will be 18 months since we got a deal done. Add to that letting The Moose go before the end of the season is plain stupid, he wouldn’t be able to play every game but we are going to miss him big time.Surely when a player of his class is looking at moving on you get a replacement , oh no we’re Spurs._____________________________

31st January 2019 at 3:00 pm #32603Mak, this is why I adopted a more disciplined mindset when it comes to Title Talk for those exact reasons you’ve stated.
Very easy to get sucked in then spat straight back out when a result is not a win.
It’s disrespectful too to the opposition fans and it borders on arrogance. We then gain a bad reputation.

31st January 2019 at 3:14 pm #32604Spot on, Mak, though I’d put it at 55-45! We’d get stick if we were crowing that we have it all sewn up, and we’re now getting stick for honestly saying that it is still too close to call. When you can have a swing in points between City and Liverpool that there has been in the last 2 months, anyone has to admit, even 9, it can happen again. 5 points is nothing, but I would rather be in our position than City’s…obviously!!
I can honestly say I have never been as cold at a football match as I was last night, and the conditions definbitely didn’t favour our way of playing. But it’s the same for both sides, so no real complaints there. The result is not a disaster, but I think our disappointment is only because we see it as an opportunity missed. If we had battered Leicester and gone 7 points clear it would have sent a message to City, and I think unconsciously or not, they may have decided to concentrate on the Champions League at the expense of their league form. It didn’t happen, but with their next 3 league games being Arsenal, Everton and Chelsea, I’m hopeful they may drop a few points in the next week or two. My worry for us is that for the first time this season we look beatable now, so it wasn’t so much the result last night, but the way we played that disappointed me.

31st January 2019 at 3:25 pm #3260627-You could have just given us the short version:without Hazard creating week in,week out,Chelsea struggle big-time to create anything, the team depends on him way too much and the rest are not good enough/too old, right?
