a Man Utd supporting small youtube.
She makes a particular effort to be objective regards other teams and at times you could mistake her for a Liverpool fan, were she not partially disgusted by her own words.Interesting results. I’m pleased that Utd beat Chelsea. I don’t think a Liverpool fan needs to explain why he’d support his nemesis for one game?
Well, I’m not going to but… Liverpool came in with another limp display-victory. They say it’s the sign of a title-winning team, I say it’s the sign of a kick up the arse.
We weren’t “lucky” today, as such but we can’t expect to win every time like this.I said this the season before and also the season when we won the PL. I was wrong then but that doesn’t mean I’m wrong now of course. It’s just a bit much and there’s something not entirely right within that team and besides injuries or that defensive cover issue, I don’t see exactly what the issue is.
I gotta say that for a side with as good an attacking selection as we have, we can look a bit tame and out of options. Are we not making enough runs? Is Salah isolated? Is the midfield not playing to a high enough tempo?
Lots of questions but the results suggest that I don’t know what I’m watching._____________________________

7th December 2023 at 8:48 am #211196Giblues, absolutely no one is writing off city. Still huge favourites for the league

7th December 2023 at 9:14 am #211197Agree Sean. Good summary gjblues but there’s no way anyone’s writing City off. Arsenal are bottlers and Liverpool don’t have the squad. This is City’s title again. City still odds-on almost everywhere to retain the title.

7th December 2023 at 9:16 am #211198Really odd though to see a Pep side so dominated in such a way that Villa managed last night. Have yet to see the highlights so only going by the stats and text summaries, but it looked like the 1-0 very much flattered them. The fewest shots (2) City have ever had under Pep apparently and it’s very rare for City to “lose” on XG and the xg was Villa 2.4 vs 0.7 City.

7th December 2023 at 9:38 am #211199I saw a graphic though in the week showing City’s stats with and without Rodri and there was quite a stark difference.

7th December 2023 at 10:45 am #211200It’s not so much writing off, but having lost 3 games already compared to previous seasons and how difficult the league is with the added competition, there’s room for further defeats; possibly another 2 which would take it up to 5.
I think the Gunners have the experience under their belt under Arteta and they can over come that hurdle, however, they have 2 difficult away games coming up in succession. 2 Defeats, 2 City wins and it’s back to how it was.
What I’m pointing out in accentuation is that City aren’t going to have it easy and just ‘walk the title’ and they won’t dominate the whole decade. It will end at some point. Teams aren’t fearing their aggression. They are standing up to it.
We’ve also seen what throwing millions of pounds to try and formulate a team in one hit doesn’t render instant success ala Chelsea. It’s more about training and development. 2 Teams of players I’ve seen over the last 48 hours with strength, balance, composure and posing some form of authority in Luton and Villa. Most of all courage and belief.
Stand up to them and don’t let them win it earning 90+ points. Make them work for it.

7th December 2023 at 12:42 pm #211202Good to see you back Mak. As I said before, I still don’t think we’ve replaced Mané. He would always come up with a goal. Salah is currently our only reliable goal scorer for me, and I think when Nunez plays in a ‘3’ up top with him Salah ends up being pushed out further wide and you lose something from him. I don’t think Diaz is really there to score goals, I think he’s more of a traditional winger. Not quite sure what Gakpo’s role is yet or if he’s trying to be used in the Bobby role. Jota is a good finisher but I think needs the service. And my thoughts on Nunez are that he’s currently more of an impact player, a good option to come on after a game has loosened up a bit like Newcastle away. But he can’t be relied upon to score as things are for me.
So we’re still missing Mané. He had that quality and quickness of touch/pace to score out of almost nothing in tight spaces. Like Haaland recently did against us. Like Trent did when he scored vs City. It’s that kind of ability that gets you a goal particularly away from home. And getting that first goal is so important to take the pressure off. This season again we’re very good at home. But away from home, this is why we’ve got less certainty that we can win imo.

This did make me curious though. Why would you want Utd to win that game? Chelsea are nowhere near Liverpool. We’re more of a threat to Liverpool’s top 4 ambitions than Chelsea are, surely? Granted. not much of a threat, but more than Chelsea these days.

7th December 2023 at 3:11 pm #211204Mikuis, but do we not look more dangerous with nunez starting? Why play gakpo ad a false nine when we play with an inverted right full pushed into midfield to create a box midfield? There’s no room for gakpo to drop in. We two 8s there.
We look much more dangerous with nunrz. Luton play like sheff utd, so do Brentford yet nunez was heavily involved. Last night we barely created anything.
I totally agree about the missed chances. He misses far to many of them but he causes havoc in games. He should have buried that chance at 1-0. He will be judged on goals but he is hugely contributing. How many goals had he set up so far this season.I’d give gakpo a go out left as Diaz had been true a lot. Take him out for a while.
The good thing is, last two games, goals are coming from other players apart from the front 5.

7th December 2023 at 3:30 pm #211205Yes Ed, the stats don’t lie. However, there are other factors that may ‘influence’ the stats – the team you’re playing, injuries, momentum of the opposition, momentum of your team, playing at home/away, etc. There is an old saying, ‘there are lies, damn lies and statistics’. But as you pointed out there is a stark difference, so far, playing with and without Rodri.

7th December 2023 at 4:58 pm #211206We’ll see Sean. Whilst as you say its good that other players are now chipping in with goals throughout the team, I still think we need a reliable goal scorer who can score in tight spaces out of nothing. Its so important to have that quality for a top team, particularly away from home. If Nunez turns out to be more of an attacking winger than a striker then OK. But in that case then we’ll need to bring in another striker at some point.
I also think something’s not right in midfield. I wonder if we have too many similar players in there. We just lack some balance for me. But because of Klopp, it’s all delivering…at the moment. I just worry over a season we’re going to drop one too many points because of these things. Be interesting to see if we do any business in January. On a side note, I’d consider playing Elliot more. I think he provides energy and a quickness of pass in the final third that would probably help Nunez too. Maybe sacrifice one of the midfielders for him and help link the rest of the midfield to the attack.

7th December 2023 at 6:05 pm #211207Jota would be a solution. You’re right Mikus from a plorific point of view. Mane was the main man. Also, the game changes that would either get us out of a whole or assure victory were Origi, Minamino and Shaqiri. Lallana sometimes coming off the bench.
Elliot does bring energy as a sub, and Endo as game management. Nunez only really works well on the counter and as a main center forward, so Salah then becomes wide man. I wonder if we went 4-4-2.
You’re also right in lot of players offering similar playing positions and not forging a distinction, e.g. we knew exactly what Gini was.
It’s been a vitality getting the contribution of goals from other areas and nothing unusual, in fact it makes you feel more assured knowing where else the goals can come from.

7th December 2023 at 10:21 pm #211209Newcastle and Spurs have got a injury crisis and Manchester United have always had a fully fit side since the start of the season.
Look at what a few injuries does to a side.

7th December 2023 at 10:25 pm #211210I assume you are being sarcastic CM!
Strange to be shit but level with Spurs and 3 behind City and Spurs were, quite rightly, getting rave reviews at the start of the season.
Though the difference in Newcastle from Saturday to tonight is startling.

8th December 2023 at 12:41 am #211211“Agree Sean. Good summary gjblues but there’s no way anyone’s writing City off. Arsenal are bottlers and Liverpool don’t have the squad. This is City’s title again. City still odds-on almost everywhere to retain the title. ”
Ya, I’m not sure if we have the squad either. I am very confident in our first 11 or slightly beyond that but we’ve got a few injuries coming in and you’re already wondering a little. Ok, one of those injuries is unfortunately our world-class keeper, so we’re in trouble no matter who comes in, especially considering how much we rely on Alisson. Matip then is basically out for the rest of his contract, which is sad. Konate for me is a brilliant player though, but like Matip he can get injured a bit. If we run into more trouble there then what do we do? It doesn’t take long before we look a bit threadbare.
“This did make me curious though. Why would you want Utd to win that game? Chelsea are nowhere near Liverpool. We’re more of a threat to Liverpool’s top 4 ambitions than Chelsea are, surely? Granted. not much of a threat, but more than Chelsea these days.”
A good question and I’d have answered it but I didn’t want to annoy the decent chelsea lads on here. Over the summer, Chelsea and Liverpool battled to sign a few players, with Chelsea winning the signings and Liverpool “winning” the making Chelsea pay more game. That is really only a silver lining, as it was quite embarrassing for us and it made things look quite bleak.
You know how that ended up though. Liverpool somehow went on and had a much better summer transfer window than Chelsea but at the time, it was just non-stop toxicity from Chelsea fans online.
You couldn’t go to a comments section without encountering some really obnoxious types. That isn’t a reflection of Chelsea fans on here or TT.as for Utd, you guys definitely are a threat. You’re only 3 points behind City. I do in a weird way still consider Utd to basically be further behind because they are going through a rough patch right now, where-as Utd are struggling to find their identity. City will storm back and probably win the PL. If Utd keep winning while they re looking for a system that they all fit into then they are buying themselves space and time to get there. So, I’m not writing them off. I think they need to start recruiting players based upon the old ideals of the club though, but that’s for the summer.

8th December 2023 at 1:05 am #211212Cheers Mikus, and ya I never thought we’d miss Mane that much as I was too busy salivating over Diaz’s potential. This season I’d say he isn’t quite there but…. fair to say why he isn’t at the top of his game yet. I don’t think he’s been poor but you’re right, he is not much of a goal threat and even less so this season. I think he might be cutting in a lot less now.
I wouldn’t miss Mane if Nunezz scored more. I don’t want to go on about him but he’s not reaching his potential, yet. He is a fantastic impact player for sure but he’ll never come good if we don’t start him a fair bit. You can see that there is a top class player in there if he can get out of his own head and learn to play more instinctively.
he’s constantly getting caught offside because he’s too eager and he’s missing the goal why? because he’s too eager. He’s got this anxiety going the whole time.I really hope that we don’t give up on Nunez and ya, I couldn’t guess what role Gakpo is playing but as frustrating as he can be, he’s got a lot of quality, so when he’s on form he does very well. You just don’t play him in the pitched battles. He’s just not that type of player.
It’s going to be very difficult for us to keep Salah out of isolation though. Trent is no longer bombing up the wing in behind him. He’s cutting in and pushing into midfield, so Salah is basically isolated out there and he’s kinda stuck laying the ball off on the edge of the box. No complaints as he’s so good at it but he’ll get fed up of this eventually.

8th December 2023 at 4:44 am #211214Ah yeah Mak, I forgot about all that Caicedo/Lavia stuff. I was thinking solely about what the result does to the league. Fair enough.
It is quite odd that Utd are now level with Spurs considering the narrative around each side this season. It does make all that early hype around Ange look a bit silly though. Despite what Shiney thinks, I’ve nothing against Spurs and would have liked to see a new challenger up there. I just find it a bit pointless when the media go completely overboard after a few games, which is exactly what they did with Ange. I’m sure he’ll still do well, mind.

8th December 2023 at 5:53 am #211215You just worry about your girls, and leave us to worry about ours (and our inability to hold on to a lead!)
I’m certainly not worried, like just about every game in this little run since the Jammy Todgers implosion, we’ve been suckered with a fair bit of bad luck and individual brain-farts… how we managed to throw away last nights game against a very, very average West “6-4-0” Ham side was almost impressive.
Nevermind, Bone Saw Boyz next… another low-block “smash-n-grab” team…

8th December 2023 at 6:30 am #211216Ya, it seems so long ago now. Liverpool had looked to be headed for disaster in the midfield area and now I’d say it might turn out to be the strongest midfield that we’ve had under Klopp.
As for Spurs, there’s a lot going in there that has led to this. New exciting manager, Kane gone (how will they cope!?) and then when they were raking in the points, the media had a new darling project and I don’t really blame them, they can only write about the other stuff so many times.
Let’s see how they recover, as they get the really tough games behind them.Utd would get a lot more positive attention if they played a style of football that drew attention. eventually, the results will get them more notice of course, and they aren’t far from drawing these kinds of questions from the media.
Beat us on the 17th and I think that might be the tipping point._____________________________
