It really doesn’t matter who the utd manager is. The club is huge. Even when not doing great, they have attracted huge stars.
Very good win for them last night. Huge 3 points for Chelsea.
I see no change in Arsenal then under wenger.they turn up at home in easy enough games but are no were to be seen in tough games.
They be no we’re to be seen againest spurs on sat.

28th February 2019 at 7:59 am #34551I think the media and pundits are being very unfair on Liverpool.
We have had an unreal season up to now yet there’s a lot of negativity around. We have won 18 games out of 20 againest teams outside the top 6. We have conceded 15 goals yet I heard time and time again Klopp couldn’t organize a defense. He has spent 73 m net when ings money comes in.
Yet there’s talk of us being bottlers???we might need 99 points to win the league. We are facing a team that has a far superior squad to us as highlighted recently
There was no talk of city being bottlers after losing 3 out of 4 games in dec.
They missed ferdhibo but we had players playing who were physically sick againest west ham yet we bottled that gameIt’s remarkable we are anywhere near city yet we get deck all credit for it. If we don’t win the league the backlash be crazy.
Some even thought we wouldn’t finish Top 4. The backlash after a draw at old tarford was just pathetic. Very tough place to go. The manager and team deserve much more credit then they are getting.

28th February 2019 at 8:13 am #34552Good post Sean. I hate the term “bottle it”, to me it’s either lazy journalism to create headlines or used as a stick by rival supporters to beat each other with. If Liverpool finish behind City this season it’s simply because City were better over the course of the season, nothing to do with bottling it.
Some of the reaction of Liverpool supporters after the Utd draw was crazy. I’d say they are the ones “bottling it”, not the team.

28th February 2019 at 8:23 am #34553AnonymousSome good points Sean but the media is the media and Liverpool have been a team that they’ve built up over and over, regardless of us only ever actually being in the conversation a few times over the last 30 years. If you take away their needless building up then the “bottlers” tag vanishes. How many times have we actually bottled the league over th elast 3 decades? Arguably only 1 time (2013/14).
I don’t totally agree regards the Utd game though. We definitely played a very nervy game and seemingly couldn’t get out heads straight but ya, OT is an incredibly tough place to go, especially for Liverpool because the atmosphere heats up something fierce for us. Utd couldn’t get a performance from their team either and they didn’t have any “bottler”. So, it is a little unfair but I still think that they were there for the taking.
It was good to see the lads back to enjoying their football. This result might be a little cathartic. I mean, whatever Klopp said to them, he seems to have communicated that they didn’t need all that weight on their shoulders and that enjoying their football is the key to success. I’m hoping that there was a big talk behind the scenes, something inspirational that has now been solidified by that 5-0. They’ll have to remember what it was because they are going to need it many more times in the run in.

28th February 2019 at 8:29 am #34555Something really unusual about yesterday whereby a few of the top and important fixtures were played at the same time which makes it even more interesting and tense.
Sometimes I like it like this than games spreaded for the sake of tv.

28th February 2019 at 8:29 am #34556The benefit of Liverpool’s 5 nil win is that they have reduced the goal difference to 6 v City now and it might just come down to goal difference this season.
Surely the title won’t be settled by the number of goals scored though that really would be a first.

28th February 2019 at 8:44 am #34557I’ve not seen anything about bottlers but maybe I’m reading the wrong papers or listening to the wrong pundits.?
The question marks about Liverpool’s title challenge have arisen from seeing the 7 point advantage reduced to 1 point and the 4 draws from 5 games prior to the big Watford win.
This is all part of being in a title challenge though and the same happened to Chelsea in 2015 on the back of the 5-3 defeat at Spurs and Chelsea’s position at the top of the table being eroded to nothing other than alphabetical order when being chased by City.
The facts are Liverpool’s run in looks marginally more favourable than City’s , City despite having a bigger squad might yet get caught out by chasing all 4 trophies and Liverpool still remain a point ahead so mathematically the title is in their control.
It’s still too close to call and whoever ultimately wins the title this season will have deserved it and Liverpool’s one defeat to date is remarkable and leaves them in a great position with 10 games to go.

28th February 2019 at 8:47 am #34558Mak, utd lost 3 players in the 1st half yet they still were so organized.
People forget how much they have come in and it was a huge task to go there and win
Goodison the same on Sunday but that’s a game we need to win. I think we can once we settle the crowd then. If we are still top after Sunday who knows.

28th February 2019 at 8:55 am #34559It’s all over social media and the press about teams bottling it
Look at merson about spurs?
City were 7 points ahead nine? They lost 3 in 4 games but there was no hysteria
Alfie made a very valid point elsewhere until we win the league whenever that maybe or if it Evers happens lol, we will have the media all over us

28th February 2019 at 8:59 am #34560And nine of course there was always going to be questions over our title creditentials as we haven’t won it in decades. Also we were always going to drop points.
Did people seriously think we were going to win every game againest teams outside the top 6.
We have won 18 out of 20 of those games. That’s a remarkable effort
I really believe when this gets out of our hands then city will not be over taken again

28th February 2019 at 9:08 am #34561Sean, I agree with Merson about Spurs bottling it.?
You are still in a great position mate and whatever is written on social media or anywhere else there’s every chance that Liverpool can win the title and let’s be honest before the season started you would all have settled for where you are now.
With every game that goes by and it doesn’t matter how you win then the belief will grow but I agree being chased down by a very good City team isn’t that comfortable.

28th February 2019 at 10:03 am #34564Is it any surprise though?
Very harsh criticism on Spurs. And what would you expect from Merson? Look at their facial expressions – Souness too. Some of them are angry and bitter. Danny Mills is the worse.
BT Sport has grown on me, but for others out there, I don’t think we should have the ilk of Steve McManaman as a pundit – especially him! Loved him as an LFC player, but like many others, he’ll be biased. That’s a lot of them are deep down.
The calibre of Brooking and Hansen are long gone, although Hansen did his (in) famous “you can’t win anything with kids”.
Jermaine Jenus is decent on 5 live. The media latch onto negativity more to print headlines and this industry now is no different to others.
Take the National News for example on a daily basis? How often do you actually see them broadcast a good deed or something to cheer you up? Very little. It’s selective, often scaremongering and depressing.
Reality for Spurs is that they just gotta focus and trying and win games. Sod the media and all the critics. They’ll never go away.

28th February 2019 at 10:08 am #34565three ps, apart from maybe Leeds or Newcastle, the majority of opposition fans hate Liverpool. Social Media and the internet gives you the impression. Whether or not though it reflects the nation out there I don’t know.
We’ve had near misses and people also can smell a bit of desperation because we set a precedent and the League Championship is the Holy Grail for us.
The worse comes to worse, we’ll come close. I do hope at the very least, we give it our all.

28th February 2019 at 10:47 am #34566Sean, a few thoughts. Yes we were good last night. But then it begs the question, why were we poor at Old Trafford, particularly up top? Ok, they were very different games in terms of opposition and location (home/away), and you could understand us being a bit more cautious at Old Trafford, particularly in the early part of the game. But when Man Utd made all their changes, there was a big opportunity there we couldn’t take. We seemed to remain in our somewhat cautious state and nobody on the pitch seemed to identify the opportunity. So I’m more reserved and cautious about the idea that we’re now suddenly “back to our best”. All this has to be contextualised. Yes we’ve still generally had a very good season so far. But you need to be very good across the board and in all types of situations. And in quite a few of those situations, particularly away from home, we have lacked that leadership to identify the moments in a game when we need to be bolder and thus seize the opportunity.

28th February 2019 at 11:00 am #34569Adlab, city got the biggest decision of the season so far in the biggest game of the season
You were all over bolt getting sent off for wolves yet we never heard you about konpany againest Liverpool
Straight red which wasn’t given at 0-0 in the biggest game of the season

28th February 2019 at 11:02 am #34570Alfie/Ed. A hypothetical question. City need one point to pip Liverpool and Utd need one point for top 4. City are playing Utd in the last game. What result would you want if you could take it in advance?

28th February 2019 at 11:05 am #34571I agree about games away from home Mikus and Sunday has to be different. We need to go for it but a good season?
It’s been outstanding from us to be competing with a team we finished 25 points behind
Look at our stats. They are unreal yet people are focusing on a few draws.
I’m not saying we are at our best at all. Last two home games have been good but we need to step it up away from home
I agree with most of what you say but this team has never challenged for the title so they will have a blip yet you think we should be ruthless all the time when the opposition don’t make it possible st times
