25th September 2019 at 10:50 pm #48481They are trying to create some excitement in the cups. because the atmospheres has been dull. and clubs are reluctant to play their best players. i understand why they would want these big games to attract crowds and media attention therefore creating a buzzing atmosphere. but my only regret is why didn’t they put like this City vs Liverpool, Chelsea vs Arsenal. those ties would have generated some interesting media headlines.

25th September 2019 at 11:08 pm #48483Truly agree. Atmosphere has been LAME.
Brough me back to mid 90s when Premier League Clubs fielded first team Strikers that would play on a Saturday.
Don’t know why there seems such a Workload nowadays.

26th September 2019 at 6:02 am #48487My take on the MK Dons LFC match, although like Nil I was watching a dodgy stream (not no sound, but 15 second delayed sound!).
A very good work out for Keita, Gomez, Lovren and Ox. Thought Keita looked ok and it will do he great to play 60 mins. Ox huffed and puffed but never took the game by the throat (great shot against the post mind). The back two looked rusty, their line was all over the place at times and you could tell they hadn’t played much recently never mind together.
Agree with some comments about Brewster although it’s his debut so he can be forgiven for not living up the hype just yet. He seemed to play the poacher role, whilst we are used to Firmino or even Origi putting themselves about and dropping deep to get involved, he seemed to be waiting for others to make things happen. Hoever scored a great header, but he doesn’t look a FB at the moment, his crossing was woeful. Kelleher looked good, Jones was lively and had a good game but Elliot was the standout. His touch, movement, vision was sublime for someone so young and inexperienced. Hope he keeps his place in this competition, will be interesting to see him against better opposition in Arsenal.
Glad we are still in it, gives way more benefit to fringe/young players and those coming back from injury. Whether that is the correct way the competition should be looked at is debatable mind!
Special mention to Utd for their unexpected and hard fought win π

26th September 2019 at 10:14 am #48499Good draw. Makes up for the years of bad cup draws.
Definitely a fix though. Warm balls or cold balls! Some of the posts remind me of me moaning year after year. Must be the petro-dollars. Chelsea v Utd. Good one difficult to call._____________________________

26th September 2019 at 11:12 am #48507Stevo, I am fully behind Conte’s Inter as I was Jose’s Inter, unless they come up against Chelsea they have my best wishes.
Its no surprise to any Chelsea fan nor the club imo that Conte is looking like being a big success at another club, we brought him to the bridge because he was an exceptional coach, we won the prem league because he is an exceptional coach.
The bottom line with Conte was he didnt get the backing from the club his first season should have warranted and it was clear from Conte’s actions and behaviours that he wanted out very early on that season as a result. He also made some poor choices like his decision to axe Costa via text and even allowing matic to go was a mistake imo for that one season, but even the best coaches make mistakes.
I would love Conte to win the league, his squad is nowhere near as good as Sarri’s at Juve but I personally believe Conte is by far the superior coach.
As for Lukaku, imo utds mistake was not selling him, it was not replacing him. The move to Italy was perfect for him and conte seems the perfect manager for him too.

26th September 2019 at 3:07 pm #48563Ed…Utd have a good record of going out to “smaller clubs” City at least avoided the banana skin. Also remember, from the “smaller clubs” perspective this was a huge bonus for them and there was always a chance they could bring about a shock…but the again, they would be playing City not Utd. I would not call Southampton a small club either

26th September 2019 at 4:26 pm #48570Oh Southampton aren’t a small club Brian but I’d take them at home over Chelsea away any day of the week!
Of course there’s no conspiracy Brian. It’s a light hearted attempt to point out how silly Adlab’s claims about Liverpool and Utd being lucky are. But you have to admit City have been extremely fortunate with recent draws. That’s a dream run in the FA Cup for City last season. Compared to our run of Arsenal away, Chelsea away and Wolves away, it is anyway!

Players now days are exerting a lot more energy in the same 90 mins in comparison to the early 90s. Sports science has pushed things much closer to their breaking point. Also, the draw isn’t fixed just because it doesn’t appear random. In fact that is a quality of genuine random events, the apparent patterns.

From what I heard, Matic was sold from under a very unwilling Conte and that this was the breaking point in the relationship between Conte and the board. They saw the money as being very good but Conte saw him as vital to his plans to defend the PL.
I don’t know if this is true, or even remember where I heard it but I know that I believed it at the time and you saw the result of it all.
