Yeah that’s a fair point Harry. Tuchel and Klopp saying what they have no doubt contributed to the circus around his appointment. I think Utd fans are generally just quite pleased about getting a manager in who is known for attacking football (unlike Mourinho) and somewhat known for something resembling a style of play (something absent under Ole and lacking for a long time). It may all end in tears but something had to change and there’s always going to be excitement around a new appointment, especially after the lows of the Liverpool and City games

3rd December 2021 at 2:16 pm #190522Ed,
I have been reading this piece of a news in the last two weeks, and some papers are even recycling it. And i have to say it has gone under my skin to talk about him turning down Chelsea when they should be reporting what he will likely contribute to United’s season.๐

3rd December 2021 at 2:49 pm #190528Anonymous“Iโm not so sure Sean. The way he wants to play is totally different from how weโve been playing. This Utd team run probably the least in the league and Rangnickโs teamโs are usually the hardest working in the league. ”
I guess we have our own opinions, I think maybe this is exactly why you need him, not thinking that because of it, that he’s a mismatch.
I will also say, that was just stupid of De Gea to go down like that. Even if he were tread on, the keeper can’t force the ref into making a call like outfield players often rightly do. Just an idiot. Those knocks on the achilles are painful now, not saying that but he’s definitely drawing what he thinks is a foul.

3rd December 2021 at 2:53 pm #190529YB, it’s come up again because Rangnick accepted the United offer and it came up in his press conference which was a fair question and fair response imo seemingly he would have gone to Chelsea had the time limit on the offer been more generous a la like the United offer. Fortunately he turned it down because of that and we got Tuchel everyone is happy with the outcomes.๐

3rd December 2021 at 2:55 pm #190530Mak, I’m not saying we don’t need him. I was questioning Sean’s suggestion that we’d suddenly start climbing the league again because of a new manager coming in. I think/hope it’s the right move. My point about the mismatch in his and the players’ (previous) style is just me pointing out that I think it will take time to implement, not that it’s a bad appointment because of the mismatch.

3rd December 2021 at 3:34 pm #190535I think Rangnick is going to find he is short of midfielders that will be able to play the game he wants to play. United have a dangerous but top heavy squad imo, and he’s already pointed to balance being his priority. If he isn’t able to get any kind of bounce from the squad, then it’ll be a long winter for your lot Ed.

3rd December 2021 at 4:38 pm #190537Ye Ed but I think it be the new manager bounce and the fixtures are perfect to climb up the table
Ragnick only makes sense if poch or someone who plays that kind of style of football comes in in the summer.

3rd December 2021 at 6:20 pm #190538But Sean you had us down to finish second, be top by the time we played you and have us down to win every week ๐. I wish I had your optimism/expectation for Utd but you’ve been way off this season mate. I had us down for 4th and that’s the best we can hope for now.

3rd December 2021 at 6:48 pm #190539AnonymousLook, I’m no Football Moyes but I have a feeling that this guy will get something out of them. There will be lads in there who will respond to his style and there will be ones who wont but I think the wills, will be in the majority and we’ll see marked improvement from a few… and maybe we’ll even see that they had a player in X all along.
Be good to see Van Der Beek get a proper run in the team.

3rd December 2021 at 7:35 pm #190541In theory it shouldnโt be a bad appointment. But its the fact that the club are having to reset again after previously going into this season with big expectations after finishing 2nd last year and signing Ronaldo and others to presumably start challenging. I guess the only way can be up for Rangnick. But youโd expect him to be a longer game manager than one to quickly turn things around. Personally Iโd have thought it would have made more sense to have thrown Conte in, then reset thereafter with someone more of Rangnickโs ilk, as it will now probably be at least another season without a trophy. How exactly is he going to handle Ronaldo for example?

3rd December 2021 at 7:56 pm #190543AnonymousGood question regards Ronaldo, Mikus. He isn’t going to run as much as Rangnick will want and the switch in philosophy will upset things, or it would have if the previous project was worth anything at all (which I don’t think it was).
That’s the key really. If Ronaldo was as upset about Ole as I think he was, he’ll only be delighted to see someone come in who will improve one thing about Utd, that is that they’ll no longer be the lowest working team in the PL. They were totally unmotivated under Ole but this is a real manager now. No disrespect to Ole but he just isn’t and should take up something else in his way forward.
I am saying it here and now that i think we’ll see a reaction from this Utd team. I’m not saying that they’ll suddenly challenge for the title but I think we’ll see something from them that we never did under Ole. They have brought in Rangnick for short term and who knows but he has burned out at previous jobs before, so maybe a short spell at a massive club will give him a taste for it and they can all judge things at the end of the season.
If I were a Utd supporter, I’d be feeling a mixture of relief and excitement. I watched his press conference and I liked the way he handled the press. He’s a skilled communicator for sure.
In short, I don’t think the change in style will negatively affect their chances of winning something this season, which is unlikely anyway. Any kind of order, even something that can’t be immediately adapted, is better than the chaos before it.
I seem to have lost my hatred for Utd over the years and it’s because they have until now, not appointed a decent manager.
