Gj, thanks for the reply. My motivation obviously for watching the match last night was hoping Arsenal would win or get a result.
It’s not that I dislike Man City. I dislike one team in total dominance and the media being all over them like a rash. Plus, if one team is scooping up all the trophies, is that really good for the rest of us?
That’s how Man United were in the 90s and 00s. I’m actually glad for what it’s worth, City came, but it now looks probable for yet another league title so that would be 5 titles in recent years.
Where’s the competition at the top end. The rest of us bar Arsenal have failed. And standards have dropped coupled with the rise in standards from the examples of Brighton and Brentford who really have made the league competitive.

27th April 2023 at 4:08 pm #206541Banjo, hell of a rant there π€£ π
If I could argue with any of the principle behind it I would bud, but I can’t.
It’s not any of the fans fault though so we should take it easy on each other. But nonetheless your frustration is clearly justified and I understand your need to vent π

27th April 2023 at 4:27 pm #206542Looks as though itβs lamps until end of season then poch will come in.
I totally understand not wanting to come in now, poch will be treading a fine line and will not want to he associated with this disaster of a season.
Thank God we already have 39 points π€£

27th April 2023 at 5:00 pm #206543Ed, just on pen last night. Good comparison was pen chelsea didn’t get at West Ham ironically few months ago. Very similar
Lucky, I didnβt think appointment of frank could really harm either club or frank but man, itβs being truly shocking. Itβs really not helped frank
Not sure about poch. Linked with really big jobs without doing much at all. Ex spurs manager etc but he has some really good players to work with there and Chelsea fans will embrace him if he gets you going. Iβm sure Chelsea will bounce back much sooner rather then later. I fully expect mount to stay aswell
Just need to get rid of an absolute host of players.

27th April 2023 at 5:31 pm #206546Nah mate, lamps got a free hit at another prem job he didn’t deserve and champs league quarter final plus I am sure more than adequate compensation. We have regressed massively under him, much worse than Potter, and many are giving lamps a pass due to the circumstances which to me makes no sense when performances have got so much worse under him.
If we have failed him its because we haven’t enabled to recreate the illusion that he belongs at this level.

27th April 2023 at 5:45 pm #206547Nil, I know exactly where you’re coming from – had the ‘misfortune’ of living in Manchester during the 90s and 00s when SAFs United were so dominant. You also forgot to mention your beloved Liverpool, who dominated the 70s and 80s – perhaps you were too young to remember or not born then? Liverpool were bankrolled by the Moores family.
Football, certainly in my life time, has always been about money – it’s big business. Even Forest, who won the title in 1978 and two ECs in the following two years, were the first club to spend Β£1m on a player._____________________________

27th April 2023 at 5:50 pm #206548Yeah Giblues, I think we could all agree in principle that domination by one team over many years is not desirable for anyone except the supporters of the dominant team.
I used to think utd were evil when I was a kid! Broke my heart as 10 year old watching us get smashed 4 nil in fa Cup final π€£

27th April 2023 at 5:51 pm #206549Fully agree Lucky about Lamps. I think he must be the luckiest manager around to have had the jobs he’s had. The media go easy on him because he’s Frank Lampard. Make no mistake, this “homecoming” has been a disaster. Potter’s Chelsea were guilty of not taking their chances. Lampard’s Chelsea are guilty of just about every sin in the game. This second stint has surely put to bed any idea that he belongs at this level.
Sean, yeah I wasn’t suggesting you got away with the pen or anything. As I said, I have genuinely no idea what handball is any more. I’m sure VAR looked at it and deemed it not worthy of overturning.

27th April 2023 at 6:06 pm #206550Well Lampard has arguably screwed himself by taking a job he just isnβt capable of. Should never have left Derby. Gerrard should never have left Rangers for Villa. Potter shouldnβt have left Brighton for Chelsea. Compare to Eddie Howe who bided his time and waited for the right opportunity at a bigger club but without instant expectations on him.
I do think a problem is English managers donβt tend to go abroad to expand their game which would also provide them with better opportunities for example to go to a CL club but without necessarily having huge expectations on them.

27th April 2023 at 6:10 pm #206551Ed there is a young lad that lives close to me called Jack, think he is 11 but he is a tiny kid, anyway he is a utd fan and crazy about football. I told him I was going to bridge yesterday and he laughed like a boss and said “good luck lampard sucks!”
Few weeks ago we were talking about strikers and I said I would love Kane or Osimhen, he said “kane wouldn’t go to chelsea from spurs” so I said I think you are right but Osimhen would be amazing for us, he said “nah, you would give him number 9 shirt then he would suck because its chelsea and you got a curse!” He then started listing them all, even strikers who were playing for us before he was a sperms in his dad’s nut sack!
They are born with football banter in their DNA these days I can’t compete π. He had me with the number 9 curse one before but I still walked in to it. Nothing I say can touch him!
Edit: Just remembered he said it would happen to Lukaku too when we signed him the smart arse π€£

27th April 2023 at 6:11 pm #206553Gj, You’re right re Liverpool mate to an extent. I use ‘to an extent’ because of bias naturally, also because I don’t remember a great deal growing up and because it was chequered history. So for example, after we won the league in 86, Everton won it in 87, and after winning it in 88, Arsenal won it in 89, and after 1990, that was the end for us for 30 years.
We had trophy spoils under Houllier and Rafa, but it wasn’t the League Title. The best years have been under Klopp; nearly every trophy bar the UEFA Cup.
I do understand your position and take that on board. I just want to see a team being able to go toe-to-toe and be able to pip a team in dominance so that it’s not the same team every year winning the same competition.

27th April 2023 at 6:14 pm #206555Lampard would have been better going under somebody’s wing. I.e. an experienced manager and be a number 2. He’s thrown into the mixer once again and I’m sorry to say, it’s a car crash. The guy is out of his depth. You need a coach who is tactically astute and can really get the best out of his players.

27th April 2023 at 6:31 pm #206556Makes me think to on Man City, it’s likely they’ll win the Title again.
However, I can’t see Arsenal having the season they had this season once involvement with the CL and having to play more matches and trying to maintain fitness of players.
For anybody to compete for a Title means at least hitting the 90 point mark.
Teams notably this season have taken points off each other and that’s great when you take the top two teams away.

27th April 2023 at 7:04 pm #206557Ah I know Ed, I was just saying itβs a comparison. Moyes went mad last night when no pen but his team got the same decision v Chelsea. Itβs very hard to understand the handball situation these days.
You would think spurs would up their game tonight but they are so bad, I can only see a utd win.

27th April 2023 at 7:18 pm #206558π love that, Lucky. Reeling off Chelsea number 9s from back before he was around π. When I think about it, it’s crazy how much this sport has consumed my life. From the lessons at school drawing all kinds of different XIs from different leagues, the management games, computer games, live games, TV games. Made me think of this story I read earlier this year. Keep thinking I should give that a go tbh. Just go completely cold turkey on football for a while and see what life is like without it. Would probably be less stressful to be honest π
