Anyway, getting back to football, still don’t understand why Conte still picks Royal over Donkey or Spence… yet another disappointting performance from him last night. Admittedly, the rest of the team looked a bit out of sorts, nobody really stood out in a good way, but Royal was still arguably the worst of a weak bunch. Offered nothing going forwards, and missed at least 3 decent chances to score, chances you’d put money on if somebody who knew how to finish was there… and really starting to get worried about Sonny… I think it’s time for him to be benched for a bit, bring him on with 30 to go against a half knackered team… would like to see Kane, Richy and Ginger Ninja at the weekend please!

14th September 2022 at 8:57 am #199006That is true nine although I do think international football is different and players put or should put club rivalries aside for benefit if the national team. As do the fans.
For me an all star game panders to the non committed global fans who want to see all their favourite “brands” on the same field.
It’s only an idea of course but it’s one I don’t like.

14th September 2022 at 9:01 am #199007Spurs should have taken their chances, they were on top for most of the game, still weak in defence. I want all English teams to do well in the CL , makes the others all more envious than they already are.

14th September 2022 at 9:05 am #199008Not wrong Rover, they created the better chances during to course of the game, leaving Celtic pretty much to pot shots for the first 88 minutes… (and that brillaint effort just before HT!)

Fair do’s Lucky I’m not saying I’m pro it I just think new ideas are worthy of debate that’s all and there are things we can learn from the States re Sports development even if it’s that’s not the way to go.😊

14th September 2022 at 9:52 am #199010The issue I have with ‘Merican sports is simply they are all about the money first and foremost, with sports a very distant 2nd.
You have the whole High School, Colledge, then the “Majors”, with the “athletes” basically playing for free while the schools/colledge are making a killing, then you get to the “majors” with their draft systems, closed shop leagues, and “players” rights, who are basically treated and traded like commodities and swapped around like Panini stickers…
Other than maximizing profits for the owners of teams, I cannot think of a single element of ‘Merican sports that could be either incorporated in a practical sense, and most certainly not an “improvement” on the system we have.
Anyway, where are my donkeys?

14th September 2022 at 11:28 am #199011The Premier League has agreed with UEFA to postpone Arsenal’s Premier League match with Manchester City, originally due to be played on 19 October, to allow for Arsenal’s re-arranged UEFA Europa League match with PSV Eindhoven.
“Arsenal v PSV Eindhoven, originally scheduled to be played on Thursday 15 September, will now be played on Thursday 20 October, 18:00.
“A new date for the Arsenal v Manchester City fixture will be announced in due course.”

14th September 2022 at 4:21 pm #199012Perfect summary threep’s. We won 2-1 but can’t say I feel that excited about it.
Good to see players returning, but miles away from being on fire. We miss something extra from midfield. If the rumours are true, we need Bellingham on board.
Shame Carvalho’s been injured.

14th September 2022 at 6:05 pm #199017I’m not against new ideas or change in general re the PL. It’s inevitable and necessary for the league and football, in general, in this country to adapt. I just find this North vs South all stars a poor idea and not at all in-keeping with the country’s football culture and tradition. It’s all a bit too soon after the Super League thing, too.
I don’t think citing the coming together of club rivals through International football is a valid counter argument either. They come together because of where they’re born (generally) and will always play together for that country (ability allowing) regardless of who they play for. Coming together BECAUSE you happen to play for Liverpool and Man Utd (for instance) is an association we just don’t need or want.

14th September 2022 at 6:22 pm #199019With all that said, if the sole goal of this match would indeed be raising money for the football pyramid and not the PL clubs themselves, then fair enough. That is a conversation that could gain traction. Like many others, I have massive doubts about that being the ultimate goal, though. Good luck getting the clubs to release players for what, in essence, would be a charity game also. When top players start dropping out of the meaningless charity friendly with little niggles and knocks, it soon would become an even less meaningful exercise.

14th September 2022 at 6:53 pm #199020Either it’s an amazing plan to make money for the football league clubs. In which case, there’s zero motivation for the PL clubs to release their players. Would just never happen. Why would they?
Or it’s an opportunity to make a lot of money for the PL clubs, in which case the football pyramid charity nonsense is nothing more than a cover story to make it more palatable to the fans. Boehly spoke about one in the US making $200mil. Say the PL one was worth £200mil with half going to the PL clubs. £100mil to share is £5mil each. Still hardly worth risking losing a player through injury for is it?

14th September 2022 at 7:23 pm #199024Adlab, agree. I always think back to Liverpool’s dominance in the 80s and Kenny Dalglish’s era and reign when he would bring in players just to bolster key playing positions. He’d sign a center half or a striker. Thinking back to 1990 and Rosenthal.
Our signings haven’t really taken off Adlab or we haven’t really had the best from them in output for what we need them for.
