barcelona first XI last night cost just short of £400m. Spurs first XI was just over £100m. of course i know it was far from their first team but many of the players that played last night would get in to most teams in europe. cillessen, semedo, lenglet, rakitic, dembele, coutinho, busquets, messi. that would still form a very competitive champions league team.

12th December 2018 at 9:32 pm #29382Yeah Hightown, I need to have a bit more faith, we are proving to be much harder to beat these days and whilst we aren’t as devastating going forward I can see that improving more and more. We aren’t crumbling like we have in the past, much more resilient and a bit more steel. Great signs and if we get a bit of momentum who knows what will hapen. Still think the title is a bit much with c$ty still hot favorites but we are giving it a massive crack.

If there was a chance of either team being knocked out altogether, I know I would be cheering for!

13th December 2018 at 9:26 pm #29403Nine. Chelsea fans now with anti-semitic chants. Are these people totally brainless. Turkeys and Christmas come to mind. Abramovic is Jewish and now an Israeli citizen too. He may just say no more.

13th December 2018 at 10:50 pm #29404AnonymousUnfortunately this a Common thing for Chelsea fans and it’s why they have a reputation for this sort of behaviour. It’s not a one off. Obviously it’s only a minority but it’s a regular thing and until proper punishments are handed out by the club and the authorities, then it will continue. Second racist incident in a few days for Chelsea. Hopefully Chelsea will deal with it swiftly like they did the sterling incident.

14th December 2018 at 6:50 am #29405Don’t think us Spuds should really take the moral high-ground on the “Y” word, considering one of the more frequently heard “chants” heard at White Hart Lane includes the word…
Stupid behavior/chants by EVERYBODY in my opinion…

14th December 2018 at 9:54 am #29409Adlab, in no way am I condoning racism but it was a song and not a chant that rightly or wrongly has been sung by Chelsea fans for decades and is sung week in week out.
“Who’s that team they call the Chelsea
Who’s that team we all adore
We’re the boys in blue and white and we fight with all our might
And we’re out to show the world that we can score
Bring on Tottenham or The Arsenal
Bring on Scousers by the score
Barcelona, Real Madrid, Tottenham are a bunch of y***
And we’re out to show the world that we can score”I’ve sung it myself going back and I’m certainly not anti semetic and I doubt that the vast majority of any who sung it last night are anti semetic the song goes back a long long way and reflects Spurs fans refering to themselves as Yids but I accept in these more politically correct times it would be better to change the words. Cheers 999

14th December 2018 at 11:12 am #29411As an addendum Adlab UEFA are allegedly investigating last night’s singing and I suspect UEFA will issue a warning to the Club about the behaviour of its fans at least with probably the threat of a one game Stadium ban too so Chelsea fans have to stop singing that song or change the offending word.
Just for the record though Chelsea FC have a zero tolerance policy on any form of racism and any one deemed guilty of it gets a lifetime ban.

14th December 2018 at 11:57 am #29414AnonymousSeems a bit OTT to call it a racist song imo. Probably best not to sign again, or change the offending word (ironically a few, more offensive words, spring to mind).
Out of interest – Paxton – do spurs fans still use the word, or any derivatives, in songs?

14th December 2018 at 1:27 pm #29415YID ARMY… YID ARMY… YID ARMY… repeat until bored… is often heard from the home fans, which in my humble opinion makes complaining about it a bit hypocritical… but that’s just me.

14th December 2018 at 1:53 pm #29417AnonymousIt seems a tad silly for there to be outcry over one chant and not the other.

14th December 2018 at 4:00 pm #29419AnonymousThe difference is I very much doubt the Chelsea fans (including 999) use it in a complementary or endearing way. They use a racial slur as a means to upset, insult and anger people. Spurs fans adopted the term as a show of pride when racist football fans mainly from Chelsea and West Ham use it to cause trouble. David Baddiel tried to have it banned for spurs fans because he was so embarrassed by the Chelsea fans use of it. However he didn’t campaign against the Chelsea fans use of it just wanted spurs banned from using it. All it did was increase the sense of pride.
All races and sectors of humanity have terms that when used in a certain way is deemed ok but once used in an attempt to insult people can be very offensive. That is what the purpose of the song is. They are deliberately insulting Jewish people. Chelsea are known as being a racist football club. For decades they have been. They claim to have zero tolerance to racism yet do nothing about it. John terry got a bloody pay rise for it.

14th December 2018 at 6:34 pm #29424Paxton with respect you’ve got no right to come on her and make any sort of claim against me personally.
Firstly this is an innocous song not aimed at Spurs fans that happens to have one word in it Yid which happens to scan with the word Madrid I’ve not personally sung it for years without personally omitting the word Yid and I know a number of Chelsea fans that do the same.
I can assure you that I am not anti semetic and I think very few Chelsea fans are anti semetic although they might be anti Spurs in the same way that they are anti United or anti Liverpool.
It’s been my privilege to visit Israel and I have visited Yad Vashem which I found deeply deeply moving and have I wept tears there for the terrible wrongs done to the Jewish people in WW2.
This song has been sung week in week out at Chelsea games for decades and nobody has ever raised an issue with it but the media are on a mission after the Sterling incident and have suddenly amplified it on the back of the Sterling incident which has yet to be proven racist, either way I would ban those involved in the Sterling incident and if proven racist would issue lifetime bans.
It’s also completely erroneous of you to suggest that Chelsea FC do nothing about these matters they have always issued lifetime bans to any fans found guilty of any form of racist behaviour and the four fans involved in the Sterling incident are currently suspended pending further investigation and if proven guilty the Club are on record as confirming they will get lifetime bans furthermore Karen Pollock CEO of the Holocaust Educational Trust only today complimented the Club’s great efforts in fighting anti semetism.
As Alfie very sensibly said earlier “Seems a bit OTT to call it a racist song imo. Probably best not to sing it again, or change the offending word”

14th December 2018 at 7:09 pm #29425I noticed in one article this chant:
“When you sing ‘Spurs are on their way to Auschwitz’, that is what you are really chanting about. Clearly there are people who think it’s OK and maybe they don’t understand why Jewish people are so offended by it.
“You would think that all but the most hardened fascists would think that was wrong.”
If I heard such a disgusting chant I would take action the police wouldnt.
How can such songs be justified.
There are no excuses._____________________________
