High town I’m not really confident mate, most games this season we have looked good in patches but we just aren’t the awesome attacking force we were last season. I don’t thhave no we have that fear factor like we did. Don’t get me wrong I think we are harder to score against but top teams don’t really fear us & know we can be got at without the devastating counters we had before.
I really rate Napoli, I’m sure most didn’t predict them to go so well v PSG or to beat us so comfortably but they are a damn good team.
Hopefully the famous Anfield nights will once again prove pivotal & we will rise to the challenge._____________________________

11th December 2018 at 12:24 am #29289The thought of a bore draw v manu next up is also lingering in the back of my mind so maybe I’m a bit negative with that coming up. If we put it together we can definitely give Napoli & going over but I’m yet to see that this season.
As you say mate I live in hope._____________________________

11th December 2018 at 5:24 am #29290AnonymousI get where you’re coming from but we worked over an initially resilient Bournemouth just the other day. By the time the end came, they looked meek and totally unworthy as competitors. We kinda did the same thing to Burnley.. but that hardly counts. You can only beat what’s put in front of you though and although it’s not all good news, I think the new midfield is getting closer to being ready. That midfield of Wijnaldum, Fabinho and Keita needs more time but the 2 new boys are finally looking good. Milner on the left is great, even if losing Gomez could be HUGE when it comes to whether we succeed in these kinds of situations or not.. but get over this hurdle and he’ll be back for the next one.
The front 3 are looking better, although that couldn’t have been hard. We blew Napoli away in pre-season, which isn’t worth much but we are coming out of the “slump” that we were in when we played them in Italy. We’ll have a mad Anfield crowd behind us and everyones serious faces will be on from the first minute. This squad have been through tougher situations than this. They are last seasons finalists and you don’t get there by fluke. We derped the group stage so far but the more I think about this, the more I think we’re going to qualify.
I’m not counting my chickens before they hatch. It’s far from a done deal and that should go without saying but I think 70% us TBH. That’s still a pretty big chance of us not doing it but you don’t need to be told how precarious even a 2-0 lead could be.
I think we’ll click though. These things always happen bit by bit in the previous games and the 2 I mentioned before had flashes of old Liverpool in them. I think we’ll click and win 4-0. Salah x 2, Mane x 1, Firmino x 1.

11th December 2018 at 7:48 am #29291That’s more like it, Mak. Don’t know if I would put our chances as high as 70%, but I would have us down as favourites certainly. The danger is if they score, of course. There are so many similarities to Olympiakos in 04/05. They scored first and were one up at half time, and then we blew them away second half…eventually! Now Napoli are somewhat better than Olympiakos were, and I certainly would’t want to have to score 3 without reply in the second half tonight, but even then I wouldn’t give up. The vocal chords are well tuned up – I’m gong to be hoarse tomorrow.

11th December 2018 at 7:50 am #29292Am I correct thinking Salahpool have to win by 2 tonight?
Anyway, getting nervous already, not helped by knowing our third choice RB is starting… although it seems the Paella Boys might be missing/resting a few…

11th December 2018 at 8:28 am #29293A 1-0 would do for us, Chucky, unless Napoli score and then we have to win by 2 clear goals. All this is assuming PSG beat Red Star

11th December 2018 at 10:18 am #29297Starting to get a little optimistic, it seems the “predicted” Barca line-ups (cyber fish-wrappings I know!) have a defense that has nobody I’ve ever heard off, all mainly 2nd string it seems. If we can’t score against that lot then quite frankly we deserve to be floundering in the Thursday night snooze feast.

11th December 2018 at 10:41 am #29298Valverde hints at resting players including Suarez but Messi likely to play?
Could be interesting Barca need nothing from the game and if they select a weak team Messi aside it looks perfectly set up for Spurs to squeeze into the Round of 16.
Confirmed Barca squad v Spurs
Goalkeepers:Marc-André ter Stegen, 13. Jasper Cillessen
Defenders: 2. Nélson Semedo, 3. Gerard Piqué, 15. Clément Lenglet, 18. Jordi Alba, 24. Thomas Vermaelen, 27. Juan Miranda
Midfielders: 4. Ivan Rakitic, 5. Sergio Busquets, 6. Denis Suarez, 7. Philippe Coutinho, 8. Arthur, 22. Arturo Vidal, 26. Carles Aleñá
Forwards: 9. Luis Suárez, 10. Lionel Messi, 11. Ousmane Dembélé, 19. Munir
*Before the game one player will be cut from the final matchday squad. The favorite: Miranda
The big news here is the return of Brazilian midfielder Arthur, who is back after missing around three weeks due to a muscle injury. Speaking of injury, Samuel Umtiti, Malcom, Sergi Roberto, Sergi Samper and Malcom miss out due to their physical issues. There are no suspensions for this game.
Predicted starting XI (4-3-3):
Ter Stegen; Semedo, Piqué, Vermaelen, Alba; Aleñá, Vidal, Denis; Messi, Munir, Coutinho
The match kicks off at 9pm CET/WAT (Barcelona & Nigeria), 8pm GMT (UK), 3pm ET, 12pm PT (USA), 1.30am IST (India, Wednesday), and you can join us to follow and comment all the action.

11th December 2018 at 7:00 pm #29305Some interesting line-ups… no Gnasher or Messi for Barca… surprised Dier has been dropped with Spuds going with Winks and Disco in those DM positions.
As I said before, not the strongest Barca line-up I’ve ever seen, but if we can’t beat this lot then we really don’t deserve to be there… do fancy us getting a goal or two!
