Yes it was a poor day for us, and we are conceding far too many goals more recently. We just seem to be drifting into the gung-ho type of football we saw under Klopp last season. I still think we need more defensively minded midfielders. We give it away too easily at times in the middle except for Gravenberch.

Yeah fair enough Threeps. I don’t watch you every week like you lot do. You deserve to be leading the table, no doubt about that. I’m not sure I’d be confident of you winning it if there were one or more decent challengers though. It seems all the usual challengers are off it this season. No better chance for you lot to take advantage and you’re doing exactly that.

We were awful today and utd had their best performance of the season. We take the draw and thank god for maguire πŸ˜‚

Knew we were in for a tough game and like 3 times last season, people said we would smash utd.

Bruno mom for me. Utd were excellent. Concerning soft goals we concede and could be our downfall. Trent was awful. Terrible but fairplay to itd, they were up for a battle and we started slowly again and go a goal behind again. Going on two years now.

Didn’t watch the game. Thought United would get trashed. Apparently United played well, so will watch the highlights later.

Read after the game that this week was Amorim’s 1st time having full training sessions with the players. Maybe that explains things a bit better if that is true. Will have to wait and see if the players can build on this performance.

Threeps, you said we were tactically miles ahead of last year. You understand the tactical side of the game much better then me. Apart from gravenberch role what changes can you see?

We are still conceding shots and goals. We are going 1-0 behind chasing games, games are very chaotic , we are scoring loads of goals, we are constantly getting roasted down the right.

We seem to be playing like last season. Not managing games well. Just wondering mate as it seems like not much has changed. This time last year we were top aswell

If we dont stop conceding goals we wont win anything. Just curious why you think this mate?

We are not constantly being roasted down the right at all. Before Konate’s injury we were very secure down that side and Trent was playing well both forwards and backwards. That injury and a drop off from Robertson (who I always said wouldn’t suit Slots tactics that well) has led to more chances being created especially today when Konate was all over place at times. I see the Trent haters are out in force but he wasn’t the only poor player today, that 2nd goal was down to Konate.

Going forward we are much slicker and unpredictable, last season we would compress to a very narrow box around the D and it was easy to defend against. Defensively we are more compact. Klopp had the midfield all over the place when possesion was lost which led to many chances to carve the CBs open, now less so although it has crept back a little probably due to injuries.

One area I’d improve is the 2 CM, but instead of getting a DM destroyer like most fans want I’d get a similar athletic player to Grav. Caicedo would have been ideal, but for this season Baleba seems to be the new favorite. MacAllister is good on the ball but not physical or fast enough for the CM role, plus too theatrical, he should play the 10.

                    Thanks threeps, valid points

Trent was awful on the ball today. Lazy pass for the 1st goal. Not his defensive side but on the ball.

He was not the only one.

                    Baleba is a-great call.

It’s not a question of ‘Trent Haters’, the man’s head has been turned and he now is coming across as ‘Bertie-Big-Balls’. I’ve always personally stuck to my guns in asserting he is not a Right Back. He will suit Real Madrid, Granted because he is more continental than conventional.

Look at the effect Connor Bradley had on the match. I truly hope Trent Leaves but I thank him and recognise his contribution.

Don’t hype up these matches. They are a parallel to us very late 90s and early early 90s for the matter ala both Evans/Houllier and Souness. Our Highlight back then was stopping or getting one on United.

We’re the Lead in the pack and that drives teams psychologically if anything to be up for it. All done both home and away. We didn’t lose albeit just missed an opportunity to increase our lead. Need a more broad first 11 selection from our Manager and not be swamped into the same choice players.

Nil he had a very poor game that’s all, so did a few others. You’re jumping on the “Bertie big balls” bandwagon it seems.

As foe the haters, just take a look at other forums. If I were Trent I’d raise two fingers to these so called fans as I were mounting the steps to a private jet bound for Madrid and no doubt countless medals. Some absolutely terrible ‘fan’ behaviour to one of our own players.

Not sure why Trent would want to join Real Madrid, when he is on to something special at Liverpool this season. Currently by a distance the best side in Europe.

My problem with trent is he just seems lazy or its lack of effort. Look at the fulham game. Vvd onto him to do the basics right. Not stepping up and just not maming an effort

Thats the worst ive seen of him and he e have been hauled off after we y ahead but no way does he deserve that abuse. Horrible stuff

Maybe it is Sean, or maybe all thr abuse he is getting is affecting him? I just think he had a stinker of a game, it happens. He’s not long back from injury but those games recently he was pretty good. Didn’t see too many issues with the performance or contact issues when we smashed WHU five nil. I think ‘fans’ are just waiting for him to have a bad game to to vent abuse that meets their agenda.

People spend too much time looking at his deficiencies without appreciating what he brings to the game overall. The left full back area is a more pressing concern performance wise to me.

Firstly, if we build a context from a football fan’s perception, that match yesterday went ahead even though there was a snowfall. Aside the locals, there are travelling supporters that have made the journey through the bad weather.

The least the players can do is try and put in a shift. I’m pretty sure Virgil was livid with Trent. He doesn’t consistently track back and this is my problem with him. Ironically, the high-line suits him!

My biggest problem is not him playing an advancing role, it’s trying to conceal him as a right-back. He is not in my eyes. Play him Right midfield! Take him out of right-back. Clearly, he’s like a David Beckham with the crosses and the free-kicks. Real Madrid I would suspect will utilise him like this.

The Defenders as a unit need to ALL roll their sleeves up help each other. How many times does Arteta get angry at his players for not helping?? Double up!

Fulham is a very good example of an observation. We need to start implementing Costas and Bradley as our future and not use as much Robertson and Trent. Maybe Slot is using this first season as a Free-hit inspite of going for all available competitions.

And I repeatedly stress this, no fixture truly is a given in this league. Just look at the results this weekend! I would say on a positive, a glass half full considering we were a goal down and with both Chelsea and Arsenal dropping points too. We have a game in hand, and don’t really have issues with injuries, so a bit of a Reset needed and the focus now is on Wednesday and Tottenham!!!

Nil we haven’t played right midfield for about 20 years! And why do you keep mentioning a high line? You know why nearly all top teams play with one right?

Regarding all this Trent stuff, would just like to point out that Dalot and Fernandes played very well yesterday on that side of the pitch. Whilst Trent (and Konate) had a stinker and made mistakes those two took advantage to heavily influence the game and get a result. Sometimes you have to appreciate the opposite rather then just criticise your own team.

Utd are still crap mind… πŸ˜„

We just couldn’t get a grip of the game in midfield yesterday. Utd were first to most things and second balls. They were also compact at the back. My criticism of Trent was more with his forward play – too many quick Hollywood passes that gave the ball away and put the pressure right back on to us. We looked to be taken off our guard and had maybe bought some of the hype about Utd being there for the taking. We also looked too gung-ho at times and not disciplined enough. Don’t know if because of our lead in the table we are just getting a bit complacent compared to the start of the season.

Three p’s I have had my reservations about the High Line and I know you and I don’t agree. Opposing teams will expose this. I don’t like the Offside Law implementation allowing play to flow as ‘normal’ then blowing the whistle.

Both Robbo and Trent are getting caught out. Konate has only just returned. Van Dijk therefore feels the pressure. Alisson is lost in his confidence; not the same keeper. The point is ‘Slot Ball’ is about reliance on one another. One guy drops off and falls asleep, this doesn’t go according to plan.

Mikus, excellent point made about quick passes. Slot is about a more patient build up and retaining possession. We played into United’s hands. Amorim or not, this is still residue of Ten-Hag and all the other predecessors. We forget part of United’s identity is actually counter-attack which is their strength.

We shouldn’t really panic and we should have been smarter even though we were a goal down and even being 2-1 up. Just got lost in making the right tactical choices and how we use our subs.
