7th November 2017 at 3:40 pm #7333Jim, I’d say Moyes is still living off his Everton record rather than anywhere else. I think the Utd job did nothing but harm to his reputation. There’s no doubt his confidence took a massive hit, as did his influence amongst players when he went from the main man at Everton and someone who did a lot with very little resources to Utd. He had no right to be even around the CL places with the net budget he worked with at Everton.
He went from that to following possibly the most successful manager ever, the impossible job in my opinion. All of a sudden he’s managing serial winners, something he hasn’t been himself. I think that job absolutely killed the way other players respond to his methods. I still think if he can find the right club, he can do what he did at Everton and really build them up over time.

7th November 2017 at 4:01 pm #7334As for José, I can understand the attraction at PSG. Of course, he’s had tons of money at Utd, there’s no denying that. I still don’t think Utd would have ever been able to spend 400mil on Mbappe and Neymar or whatever it was but we’re certainly not skint.
However, it would take double, triple what Utd have spent to become the only dominant force in the league. Even with that spending, I don’t think we’d be heading and shoulders above the rest as there’s just so much money around the rest of the league.
Whereas at PSG, his ego and desire for winning trophies would be fed much easier. Not only would he win the league every season with ease but he’d have a much better chance at winning the CL imo as his players would be much more fresh coming from a less competitive league.
I don’t think he’ll go yet as his ego would never forgive him for quitting and giving up against Pep. I think that’s the only thing keeping him around. In some ways, I admire his desire to win, as annoying as he can be sometimes. I’d much rather that than him being from the Wenger school of accepting mediocrity.

7th November 2017 at 4:07 pm #7335Big Jim-Not at all mate,au-contraire,but @ PSG he can spend as much as he wants.i.e.£400m on Mbappe and Neymar,plus a “little,tiny” amount of £30m on Y.Berchiche.

7th November 2017 at 4:12 pm #7336And apparently the West Ham board are ‘surprised’ at the adverse reaction to Moyes’ appointment from west Ham fans! Really? Can they be really unaware of how low his reputation has sunk? Just a cheap option where they have to pay no compensation, methinks!
And it’s interesting how Karren Brady who was so vociferous in her condemnation of Moyes during ‘slapgate’ has been so quiet during his appointment!

7th November 2017 at 4:27 pm #7338I have a suspicion Karen Brady is not happy but its what the owners want.

7th November 2017 at 6:28 pm #7340Ed, you say that you think Mouriniho’s ego is the only thing that is keeping him arround? He only joined you guys just over a season ago. Why do you think he has become so disillusioned so quickly. I know he doesn’t stay at clubs long but wanting to leave after a season is a bit odd.

7th November 2017 at 6:48 pm #7343I don’t necessarily think he’s disillusioned Jim. I just think the challenge at PSG is more suited to him than the Utd job. It’s a huge job at Utd. The pressure is enormous and the chance of winning things much less than at the likes of PSG.
Like most top level managers, Wenger aside, he’s not interested in staying around for years and years. He’s after adding to his trophy cabinet as he’s obsessed with winning.
He’s done a year and a half already. If he sees out his 3 years, he’ll probably be amongst the longest serving managers in the league at the time. He’s not going to be around much longer either way imo

7th November 2017 at 6:55 pm #7345The French league is crap compared to the Premier League. Mouriniho does my head in with his moans and that’s before you start to look at his % style of football. But and it’s a big but he is bloody successful so why give up the challenge in the best and most high profile league in the world to play in a poor league. Doesn’t stack up for me. He hasn’t really avoided a challenge so why start now?

7th November 2017 at 7:32 pm #7349I would think the reason he’ll go to PSG at some stage is simple has any other manager won in 5 different leagues? He’ll do it to inflate his own ego….

7th November 2017 at 7:47 pm #7352I think there is a fair to middling chance that West Ham will go down with Moyes in charge. A manager with a very poor recent record who the fans clearly don’t want and is already being slagged by ex Hammers players. Not the best move imo. Should have gone for Warnock ?

9th November 2017 at 5:08 am #7395really cant see Moyes succeeding in the long run, he may have a few good results initially as a change does work wonders most of the time, he had the audacity to state that any player who does not pull up his socks will be axed and he has been sacked in his last 3 appointments. Pot Kettle comes instantly to mind here.
