Nine, maybe a better one for the United fans naturally, and the neutrals. Didn’t really think that much in terms of the overall quality of the game as United-Liverpool ones often are these days.
I don’t really treat them that much like a Wedding – ever since probably the 1996 Cup Final. Always a nice feeling if you get the rub of the green and the result goes your way, but other than that, rather these days just treat it as a box-ticking exercise although on this occasion, there was a weight of significance attached to it and we’re the ones now having to deal with the setback, but as far as the bigger picture goes, the future I believe is looking bright for us.
Cheers.

10th March 2018 at 4:00 pm #17634AnonymousWhy’s everybody getting so edgy?
I think Banjo has just worked out that Spurs aren’t going to win the ‘we finished above Utd’ trophy this year!

10th March 2018 at 4:07 pm #17635Nil, not a truly great game but a good one imo with some lovely moments much better than the game at Anfield.
Liverpool are great in forward mode but lack a creative spark in midfield imo I wouldn’t worry too much buddie Liverpool will comfortably finish in a top 4 place and are definitely going in the right direction.
Keita on his way a top quality Keeper and Centre back plus a creative midfield player and a striker in the Summer and you won’t be far away next season. Cheers 999

10th March 2018 at 4:09 pm #17636Alfie, I think City wrapped that trophy up a while ago.
It’s going to be an intersting Summer United will spend big imo to try and close the gap on City.

10th March 2018 at 4:15 pm #17637AnonymousI think City stopped thinking that finishing above us was a trophy some time ago.
City will outspend everyone, again. Utd will just get spoken about as if they spent the most.

10th March 2018 at 4:21 pm #17638Nine, all true there mate.
I like our midfield today, but you’re right in terms of them not really creating anything for the forwards to feed on. They could also have shown more aggression, though Ox, Milner and Can did get more involved in the game from the second half, but needed really somebody with the guts to unleash one and pull the rabbit out of the hat.
I think a wing system like De-Bryne and Sane will be potent for United’s defense to contain.
Cheers

10th March 2018 at 4:23 pm #17639I can’t really see any real negative feeling as far as our set up goes on here.
For the sake of my soul and sanity, I will truly avoid popping over to the other place. We know how Warro is likely to behave which will likely to provoke a reaction from Shanksy.
No way am I going there, neither today, or tomorrow.

10th March 2018 at 4:28 pm #17641AnonymousVery wise, Nil.
In fairness, I think you are nailed on for a top four spot, so the result hasn’t really affected that. It’s about getting better season on season. Both teams need to be much better next season to challenge City.

10th March 2018 at 4:34 pm #17642Precisely Alfie.
On this season alone, it’s not been about ‘getting one over’ United to finish second, it’s been more about being on par with City and getting the owners to realise where we are and what we need to invest.
The good news as far as paper reports go is that FSG will spend big in the summer.
Cheers

10th March 2018 at 4:39 pm #17643Anything MartialArt says will get Shanksy wound up.
I mentioned this earlier. I hope Pogba was not risked for a bragging rights game and that is all it was. If you reach the top 4, the only place worth cheering about is top spot. The other 3 no matter what order have got in to the same competition for the following season.

10th March 2018 at 4:40 pm #17644AnonymousNine, agreed, Van Dijk is the real deal alright.
Sean, I don’t agree that Jose out-smarted Klopp. Our passing (especially in the first half) was wayward at best. There was definitely a bit of tunnel vision going on as sometimes players were making decent runs but not spotted. Salah’s run down the right that Firmino just didn’t anticipate/see, being the most striking example that I can think of. Mane tried now in fairness to him and he setup our goal (OG or not) but his passing was abysmal.
You can’t blame Klopp for players losing their nerve and not doing what they usually do. it isn’t a case of the space not being there, we actually created space quite well, especially for a match against Utd at home. We just didn’t exploit it.
So no, for me Klopp takes absolutely no blame in that sense. If you look at the substitution that Klopp made, I think he made exactly the right call in bringing on Lallana. He did it with time for him to make an impact on the game. I thought Oxlade did alright but we didn’t need his particular set of skills and Lallana was more valuable to us. We needed to up the tempo, lessen touches on the ball and get a bit more clever about it in general.
Salah had a really quiet game. He looked frustrated. In hindsight you might say he should have gone down when he was fouled that time but I’d like to see players try and play on and refs not needing the drama to make a big call.

I don’t agree. We’ve Chelsea to play yet. A loss there and we’re in serious trouble.

10th March 2018 at 4:45 pm #17646AnonymousPersonally Thought it was a pretty shit game. Neither team created much and neither keeper really tested. Quality was generally poor. Thought mctominay was the best player on the pitch. Didn’t think any Liverpool player played well to be honest, was pretty poor from them. United did what they do best, got ahead and then defended for their lives and Liverpool just couldn’t break them down.
See the West Ham fans are doing themselves proud as usual!

10th March 2018 at 5:11 pm #17648Nil@4:23pm Nil, that’s the way mate no point in beating yourself up over a football game there’s another one next week.
Anyway you might have lost today but Liverpool are definitely making progress and if they spend a bit in the Summer that progress will likely continue the problem we’ve all got though is how good City are already and how much more they will spend in the Summer. Cheers 999

10th March 2018 at 6:20 pm #17655Mak, jose identfied a weakness we had. He targeted lovren and taa. Simple tactic. It wasn’t long ball. It was a clear tactic. Get the ball into lackau and get behind taa. After the 1st goal can should have been on lackau and centre back pushed back for the 2nd ball or get vvd to mark him
It’s did the same with Fellaini 3 years ago at Anfield. What did we do tactically to try get back in it? Salah stayed right when he wasn’t getting a look in.
Utd defended very well. We absolutely knew how they would set up without the ball and we had no answer. So for me, Jose outsmarted is yet again
