The size of the task facing City is that a 3 goal lead or more has only ever been overturned twice in the history of the CL at this stage.
City are capable of scoring 3 goals but Liverpool are capable of getting an away goal too.
I think the disappointment of Saturday v United will be a motivation for City and it could be a difficult watch for Liverpool fans as I think City might go close providing the get an early goal.
If I was brave enough to put a bet on it would be on Liverpool getting an away goal and City needing 5 to go through which will probably be too much even for them.
Just hope it’s a real contest and a great game for all us neutrals to enjoy.
Best of luck to both sets of fans and let’s hope we’re only talking about the football once the dust has settled on this tie.

10th April 2018 at 3:52 pm #19925AnonymousMy worry is that our season is 90 minutes from being over, if we mess it up. There have only been a few comebacks on this scale in the CL but you’re right, City are capable of it. Very capable. They are the best team in the world for me but we’re up there ourselves and are generally improving over time.
So much hangs on Salah and Robertson. Klopp hasn’t come out saying that either will play, so does this mean they are going to miss out? In the past I think Klopp would usually say if a player was ok. I’m hoping it’s just mind games by not issuing that they are fine, so City are deflated to finally hear that Salah and Robertson are playing. That would go the other way too for us. It would be a huge relief for all reds to hear that the lads are good to go.
If it’s touch and go, I hope Salah makes the bench. he scores so many goals that there would genuinely be a fear factor for him getting ready to come on.
Sean, I’m freakin out man!
Let’s both make a pact to believe that we can win the Cl if we get through tonight.

10th April 2018 at 4:35 pm #19928Mak – Sean could never agree to a pact like that!! We’ll still ‘feck’ it up, eh, Sean!!!
I’m nervous for tonight as well. I think we’ll be able to tell alot from the first 20 minutes, as you can so often from Liverpool games. I would put us as 60-40 favourites to go through, but no more than that. We SHOULDN’T f*** it up, but City are a very, very good side, and we are not quite as good…probably. We’ll have a very weak bench undoubtedly, so won’t have much to offer any changes if needed. It’s going to be a long night with more clock watching than actually watching the game, I reckon!
Karius, TAA, VVD, Lovren, Robbo, Milner, Gini, Ox, Mo, Bobby, Mane Subs Migs, Moreno, Klavan, Clyne, Ings, Solanke and maybe Woodburn, who I believe is in full training again. That’s my predicted line-up. So it’s off to the pub in Manchester(!) to find a quiet corner and chew my nails!

10th April 2018 at 5:19 pm #19930Mak, of course Liverpool can win the CL as can Bayern, Real and Barca even City if they were to dig themselves out of this hole but whoever goes through over the next two days will still have 3 very difficult games to face.
But as Dale Winton says you’ve got to be in it to win it!

10th April 2018 at 5:23 pm #19932But Sean, if someone had said to you in August that we’d be going in to the 2nd leg of the Champions League 1/4 final 3-0 up and we’d be 3rd in the league, you and any of us would have bitten their hand off for that. We have alraedy overachieved getting this far in this competition. I would have been happy just reaching the group stages, but to be within touching distance of the semi finals is beyond our wildest dreams last summer.
Having said all that, and I know what I’ve just written will fall on deaf ears with you(!!), I would be alot more relaxed about tonight if it had been 0-0 from the 1st leg!! I’d obviously prefer it the way it is now, but suddenly I’m going in to the game with hope and expectation, instead of just hope, and frankly, it’s terrifying!
But just hang on to the fact that we have overachieved already…we are not one of the 4 best teams in Europe, and it’s probably true that we are not one of the 8 best teams in Europe. We have done brilliantly to get where we have so far, so don’t be too hard on the team or yourself if it does go Pete Tong! Easier said than done, I know. Anyway, I’m waffling, I’m so on edge, so I’ll sign off now before I spout even more tripe!

10th April 2018 at 7:14 pm #19933AnonymousSean – it is one of those games where you can only muck it up. Go through and it’s expected, score another three and you only scored as City had to attack, but lose…
I think you have to play in ten minute segments, if you get to 10 mins and it is nil-nil then just go again for another 10 mins.

10th April 2018 at 7:36 pm #19935AnonymousHH, I wouldn’t say we’ve overachieved yet. The quarters was the level that I said I’d consider to be a success (with 3rd or better i think.. TBH 4th is fine).
I guess there is a part of me that believes Liverpool are never overachieving in Europe but that isn’t it here until we get to the semis. If we get past Man City then we’ve exceeded my hopes.
Nine, if we beat Man City tonight I will consider our odds better than 11/2. For me, Man City are the best team in the tournament now and if we can beat them over 2 legs then I’m going to come out with something that you won’t agree with and say that we’re favourites for the CL title. Bold? Yes but I’ve never seen a better team than Man City in my life. really.
We beat them and we can beat anyone.
OMFG I’VE MISSED THIS!

10th April 2018 at 8:05 pm #19945I think the main thing for us is to be able to show our resilience in being able to cope well with the spell of pressure.
There’s a clear expectation for us to just roll-over for them. I don’t even particularly think City are playing ‘that’ well. They are trying to hurry everything and rather than pander to their circus, WE the ONES who need to take control of proceedings.
