I would be stunned if City decided to play long. As you say, they’d be wasting the talents of one of the best players in the world but also, is their front line equipped to play this style effectively? I don’t think so. You will need players who can compete with our CBs in the air. I can’t see Aguero winning many headers against Van Dijk from open play.
That’s the thing, their midfield just control. I don’t think they had Silva when we last played them either did they? Ouch.

3rd April 2018 at 12:26 pm #19050This is a very interesting game. i see most of the media pundits are writing off Liverpool. when they met on Jan 14 this year, i cautioned everybody that its too early to write off Liverpool. and now i caution others to be careful. Liverpool know how to summon passion when needed. playing against this City is never easy. but Liverpool have already beaten them. i have friends from both side of the divide, and i would be playing my cards close to my chests. i don’t want to upset some of my friends. but whoever advances will have my support. finally Pep is hitting the heights he was hitting at Barca. congrats to the City fan base. if you beat United the trophy will be yours. although Mourinho will do everything in his power to delay that party. I understand for a City perspective, winning the title infront of their sworn enemies will be the best feeling a City fan can have.

3rd April 2018 at 12:37 pm #19052Matip expected to miss the rest of the season with a thigh injury which is a blow after losing Lallana.
I don’t think it will damage Liverpool’s one to eleven strength but it does cut down on their options with do many important games coming along which might stretch them.

3rd April 2018 at 12:42 pm #19053Pep’s going long will mirror Spurs going long v Chelsea with the kind of magnificent pass that Eriksen pulled off for Spurs second goal.
Like Spurs City have the midfield players to play “Any which way but loose” let’s hope they don’t field Clyde too he could swing it!?

3rd April 2018 at 12:52 pm #19055Can is a bigger loss than Matip or Lallana – shows how thin our squad is

3rd April 2018 at 12:57 pm #19057Can is a big loss Beni.
He’s been our best midfielder this season.
Injuries coming at the wrong time.

3rd April 2018 at 12:59 pm #19058AnonymousBut Eriksen’s pass for that goal wasn’t from a team playing long, or am I missing something?
We’re talking about that lovely weighted through ball out the wing right? Did Eriksen receive a long pass before making it? I mean, if he didn’t it’s still not going to be what I would consider “playing it long”, as your tactical choice of play. Then of course he is a midfielder, you’re not exactly lofting it over midfield if he’s getting on the end of them.

3rd April 2018 at 1:19 pm #19060Don’t know what game you numpties were watching but it was Dier who made the “long ball” for Spuds 2nd goal… but other than that…. 🙂

3rd April 2018 at 2:25 pm #19066Chucky, you have to remember Spurs winning at the Bridge after 28 years was a big shock to the system of course it was Dier!?
Still a sublime pass though and City have plenty of players in their midfield capable of similar should Pep decide to go long.

3rd April 2018 at 2:26 pm #19067Agree Beni on Can and he would start where as Matip probably wouldn’t .

3rd April 2018 at 6:02 pm #19074AnonymousYa Matip has been poor lately, sure Lovren can be absolutely dreadful off his day but honestly, I’m not that bothered about Can being missing. He’s not consistently good and it’s true that lallana isn’t a huge loss for this individual game because he wouldnt have been match fit but I would see him as a big miss for the next one. He’s had a horrible season in terms of injuries. They’ve really just robbed him of a chance to knock on from last year, where I think he was excellent.
The problem is two-fold with him as I felt that midfields that had both Lallana and Wijnaldum in them were well balanced and dynamic. I just don’t see the same player in Wijnaldum these days. he’s not all bad but he’s gone from one of my highest rated performers of last season to one of the players who I think needs to pick his game up.
Maybe this is the game for him. In comparison to Citys midfield anything will look poor but in a general sense a midfield of Milner – Henderson – Wijnaldum/Oxlade isn’t too shabby and one way or the other we get to have one of Oxlade or Wijnaldum on the bench, so we’re not exactly dipping into the reserves.
This is as positive as I can sound about it. The match is now only a day away and it’s like the atmosphere is getting thicker as we fall through it, down towards the cold hard surface of reality below.

4th April 2018 at 11:12 am #19133AnonymousA lot of great goals in there but so many of those players are no longer at the club. It’s all about the lads we have here now but they are good enough at that part of the game.
We’re going to need a big game from everyone, not just the defence, not just the attack but the midfield lads too. It’s going to be a really annoying day of constantly checking the time.
