TAA starts there. I’m happy to see him tested once again, I feel he did well enough the last day and has a big future ahead of him. I can see him being more of a winger than an FB, in the little bit that I’ve seen of him so far anyway.
The team should be strong enough to do a job. Hopefully Can has regained some fitness after the last match, he needs to sharpen up a lot. Let’s hope for few mistakes at the back. Having a poor defence is no good for our keeper’s development, he was doing so well last season, I’d hate to see his confidence derailed.
anyway, I am mostly looking forward to seeing how the front 3 manage of course. They are the only intriguing thing that Liverpool have going on right now.

15th August 2017 at 8:07 pm #3780Anonymousginger, I have no interest in that as it’s a lost battle if that’s what we’re goign to rely on. The game is open enough though as I said on TT haha but ya, we’ll see if we can get a few goals. they are pretty good though, these Germans. The fans are bloody incredible. They put Anfield to shame. Mind you, most bus stops at noon put Anfield to shame these days.

15th August 2017 at 8:44 pm #3782We are at shambles at the back. Our left side is terrible. Great free kick.

15th August 2017 at 8:59 pm #3783Definitely feels like there are more goals in this Sean. That away goal is massive though

15th August 2017 at 9:38 pm #3784Can’t believe Moreno was left on.
Diagonal ball every time.Dreadful at the back but big win.

15th August 2017 at 9:55 pm #3786The bigger picture is that we’re on the right track as far as the result goes and we have 2 away goals, so on the whole, it’s a positive.
Naturally though, when there are deficiencies, this is immediately picked up on and accentuated the moment the defence is exposed – had radio commentary on.
Satisfactory above all, and we just need to see out another 90 mins.

15th August 2017 at 9:57 pm #3788Lovren and Moreno wreck my head.
They seriously can’t be starting games for us this season._____________________________

15th August 2017 at 10:57 pm #3789Excellent win in the context of it being the away leg but still rode our luck on a couple of occasions, Only saw the Second half after work but We looked half decent on the counter, Mane and Salah looked a threat with their pace but Salah I thought never used his pace to full advantage, Made up for Trent with the Goal and Migs kept us in it with some crucial saves, Defensively We did alright but still some shaky moments and Klopp will have to work harder at our defensive side of things otherwise no complaints.

15th August 2017 at 11:09 pm #3790I’ll take 2-1 away win against a team that didn’t lose at home last season, we didn’t dominate (far from it) but we got the result and I’m happy with that (if not the overall performance)!
YNWA RIP the 96

16th August 2017 at 12:19 am #3791Absolutely SIE, I’d have definitely taken that result before hand. As you said the performance wasn’t very convincing but I’m hoping that we can maintain that advantage after the Anfield leg & that will lead to the signings we need to progress.

16th August 2017 at 8:44 am #3793Saw some of the first half, soft penalty I thought, and possibly the worst ever taken penalty (reckon I could have saved that!) but a decent result in the end. Not home and dry, but pretty close do it!
5 teams in the pot hopefully, the mind boggles at some of the potential groups it could chuck out….

16th August 2017 at 4:03 pm #3813Hoffenheim must not have been watching us last season or last weekend against Watford. Fortunately they weren’t setting up with a man on Mignolet on corners. We got caught a few times on the counter but other than that, I thought Liverpool defended well.
Nice professional performance, great result, and what a goal from TAA!_____________________________

16th August 2017 at 4:47 pm #3814jc – I’m surprised you thought we defended well. I have to say, I thought it was pretty shambolic from start to finish. Now I know Hoffenheim are a good side, and a good side will create chances, but we presented them with half their opportunities. Lovren’s poor interception of a free kick early on, the penalty fiasco (where was Moreno? The other end of the field!), the playing onside by Lovren for the goal and the way TAA lost his man, and finally the free header allowed in injury time. All of those could and should have been avoided, and better teams would have capitalised on it. And there were other instances, I’m sure, but I can’t recall them.
I thought Lovren and Moreno were the chief culprits, but really the men I blame are the coaching staff. the first two games of this season have shown no defensive improvement, in fact you could argue it’s got worse, because we had actually tightened up a little by the end of last season.
Benteke will be rubbing his hands looking forward to Saturday!!
But it was a great result, but I’m still slightly deflated as 2-0 was tie over. That late goal has given Hoffenheim a sniff.

16th August 2017 at 5:29 pm #3820We spent a good part of the game sitting back and inviting them to attack, during these periods of the game we kept them quiet, and foiled them with some good tackles and saves, and we defended set pieces well.
“We got caught a few times” as I said in my last post, with our defence exposed. Moreno is diabolical (why he’s still at the club I don’t know). But with Hof seeing so much of the ball, I thought as a team we restricted them. Despite their possession we looked more likely and created the better opportunities. Especially Can, Henderson and Matip who I thought dug in deep and defended very well. Mignolet also had a very good game.

17th August 2017 at 10:37 am #383924 hours or so after and based on our defence selected and our keeper too away from home, I’d take this 2-1 with both hands and now use this as a springboard of positivity going into our first home match against Palace this Saturday, of a traditional 3pm kick off and put on a solid performance and nail all 3 points in front of the supporters.
