To a point JC. I was hopeful that anyone Klopp buys is someone he genuinely thinks can play for him sometime soon. I had never heard of Solanke before we went for him but then he goes and wins the U20 WC, in a starring role. he looks a good player and Robertson does look very good alright too. I have seen enough of him already to think that he’ll nail down the LB position.

So they do look like 3 really good signings but we need more than that to really move forward, especially with an unsettled Coutinho now. If we ended up somehow snagging Van Dijk and Keita, with Coutinho willing to get back to work, then I’d say it’s been a fantastic summer window but how likely are those deals now? pretty unlikely I think, which is just a huge shame but the window remains open, maybe some day soon we’ll hear of a bid out of nowhere. . .

Need a replacement free-kick taker (I was just thinking). This is potentially what can happen when you’re reliant on one guy to deliver the magic. Unfortunately, we’re likely to lose our little Phillipe to Barca.

Bit of food for thought perhaps re Van Dijk if we eventually do get hold of him, the possibility of him being versatile to play in front of the back 4 should we ever find ourselves with another central defender.

That would really ease the pressure away from Mignolet.

Can, Henderson and Wijn doesn’t quite work as it should so maybe Van Dijk pairing up with one of these guys on the lower end of the pitch would give us the steel we need.

Just a thought, mind.

G’day Dan, I dunno about Hendo mate, I just don’t think he offers enough to justify a gaurenteed position in the team, let alone captain. Maybe it’s because we have a midfield with too many of the same type of player in there. Hate to say it but we miss that extra bit of skill that a Couts type player brings.
I’m in between Canberra & Sydney mate.

Hey Oz,

Yeah I agree. he is very skillful but he does just bring more of the same style of play. I would like it if he went further towards hard nosed DM or flair player, but he is more all round.

I do like his occasional bits of magic, and the fact that he keeps the midfield ticking, and that he has a great engine. It is no coincidence that we have better results with hi in the side.

I also used to be doubtful about Can, but he has really stepped up when he got a settled role and could be a champion of the club if we keep him.
