Ed, there was a big kick back from genuine Chelsea fans against a Saudi consortium during our takeover.
I actually wanted Ratcliffe despite his United ties because he was a football fan.
I hope both United and Liverpool steer clear of the Middle East but as you rightly say there’s little either set of fans can do and despite the fine words you suspect that both sets of owners will probably choose who suits them best.

Yes I remember the Chelsea fans doing the same Nine. Just as they did re the Rickets family too. The likes of what Chelsea ultimately ended up with in Boehly is probably as good as any of us can hope for if we’re being realistic.

Why was a report produced yesterday about John Henry not wanting to sell?
He’s stuck to that notion all along effectively. I don’t get why some fans out there are surprised and bemused.
The message seems to be misinterpreted as it’s a stakeholder they want to acquire and naturally somebody mega that’s prepared to be able to invest; they’re not looking to sell outright.

Nine, Depends on the Stake and what proportion of ownership. E.g. could and 50% be agreed or 70/30? Naturally there’s a return and growth. Could be somebody with a vested interest with long term ambition or somebody fanatical and wants to bring success to the club instantly.
3ps, I think the stance changed somewhat possibly due to interest shown and FSG are holding on. It would have to be something ridiculous in bid.

I’m with 9. I just can’t make it make sense tbh. Unless there’s some sort of rolling agreement where any potential investment for a minority stake would be counted towards a full sale in future, and I dont even know if that’s legal or possible.

D/H @ 5:49, I’m with you mate on your second sentence. I look back to November for when this thread was created and what ever sources were referred to at the time, it gave me the impression the club wanted out.
Only really 2 months or so passed, it seems what ever the intentions were at the time, they’ve been misinterpreted. Perhaps the bids and the interests shown has otherwise made FSG rethink about their assets.
Personally, I’ll go by what I expressed at the time in being careful what to wish for. In fairness, we have exceeded beyond the ‘moneyball’ model and when we were signing players like Fabio Borini, Nuri Sahin, Joe Allen, Alberto Moreno, Dejan Lovren…..
The purse strings have loosened a lot. We won’t be Manchester City or Chelsea and some fans need to get their heads around that. What they are open to is an Investor. Maybe the level of authority and control can be negotiated once the right people come along. Patience in the meantime.

Harry, they need to put up some big money this summer. I like fsg aswell, I just think we really need at least two top midfielders and a centre back.

Yeah Nike, Ed hit the nail on the head when he said for our model to work, we will always need a world class coach. That has to be the priority always. Whoever sits the big seat, has to be one of the best in the business.

Sounds about right Sean. VDB must be ready soon to step up for cb. I really liked the look of the Croatian chap, but it’s now being quoted 100mil at least. He’s probably worth it, but likely out of our price range. I am still hopeful of JB for CM, fools hope maybe, but Klopp has an allure, as does Anfield.
