You could say that about anybody wearing a Goonie shirt…

28th August 2017 at 3:16 pm #4341Kieta deal reportedly agreed, but we won’t get him till next year – shame. We’re in a wonderful flow and good spirits at the moment.
Van Dijk is doing everything he can to force his move and I think he’ll be our player this week.
Phillipe is definitely departing us and we’re coming in with a serious chunk of money.
My suggestion would be to go for a world class keeper and we’re sorted.

28th August 2017 at 3:24 pm #4342I thought Saints had said that they wouldn’t sell Van Dijk to Liverpool for any money after Klopp tapped him up. Then Liverpool apologised? and said they had ended their interest, presumably to stop Saints reporting them. I don’t see why they would want to sell him anyway. Just like Liverpool clearly don’t want to sell Coutinio and are not going to. Given all that’s gone on I think Van Dijk to Liverpool is far from certain. But stranger things have happened.

28th August 2017 at 3:40 pm #4344Big Jim, the latest reported on Van Dijk is him changing agents to force this deal. I know Chelsea reportedly have shown an interest but he is dead set joining the Reds.
Saints obviously of late don’t have a good relationship with us. The player don’t want to play for them, so like Coutinho, it’s best for all parties to come to an arrangement.

28th August 2017 at 3:48 pm #4346NB, so you think Coutinio will leave Liverpool in this transfer window? I just can’t see that happening this late in the transfer window. Leaves you no time to get a decent replacement.

28th August 2017 at 4:23 pm #4353But do Pool really need to replace him? They aren’t exactly missing him and they still have Llalalnbababllla (the footballer, not the village in Wales) to come back.
Easy to say when it isn’t your club, but I’d be biting their hand off!

28th August 2017 at 4:29 pm #4358I think Chelsea’s alleged interest in VVD is just paper talk Chelsea have Azpiluqueta, Luiz,Cahill,Rudiger and Christensen for 3 positions already so I can’t see why they would want to spend £70m on VVD especially as there are other areas that need strengthening.
I also don’t think Southampton will sell him to anybody this window and especially not to Liverpool given what went before and I read again today that Liverpool can’t approach Southampton on VVD for fear of the tapping up charge raising it’s head again.
Good business imo by Liverpool to agree a £48m deal on Keita now ahead of 2018.

28th August 2017 at 4:41 pm #4359Big Jim, somewhere on this site I’ve made a point about the idea of leaving/giving a windows notice period. There should be a clause in a player’s contract (particularly if he is considered one of your best, and is a high earner) in favour of the club.
You’re right by implementing something like this gives you time to source a replacement.
I think in Coutinho’s case, this business with a so-called back injury is smoke and mirrors. Behind the scenes, I think both Barca and Pool are sorting/agreeing the player’s fee and by this Friday, Coutinho will be a goner.
I have nothing but praise for the guy and understand fully why he would move. Plus, he’s served us at least 3 good seasons. I’m highly encouraged in Salah, plus, we already have Mane in top gear, and we have a good find in Solanke, so plenty of attacking options.
It’s just a matter essentially to sought a sweeper type of role and a centre half.

28th August 2017 at 4:44 pm #4361Boga to Birmingham on a season long loan?
Given how thin the Chelsea squad already is Chelsea must either have some very solid deals lined up that will drop into place before 11pm on Thursday or Emenalo and Marina need to walk the plank @ 11:01pm on Thursday!?

28th August 2017 at 4:44 pm #4362Chucky, it’s probably for the set-pieces. His accuracy is first class and that part of his game will be missed. Great to see James Milner reinstated in his natural playing position, but we need somebody out there to get trained up properly on those free kicks.

28th August 2017 at 4:53 pm #4364NB.. that may be the case, but I would think it better for the team as a whole not to shoehorn in somebody who just happens to be good at set-pieces… and although I don’t watch him week-in, week-out, I don’t remember him being that good…..
(Are you Nil in disgusie?) 🙂

28th August 2017 at 6:01 pm #4370Ox if it happens is a perfect signing for Chelsea only 24, English, very versatile and the fee is reasonable in the current transfer climate as he’s only got a year left on his contract at Arsenal.
Hopefully this one gets over the line.

28th August 2017 at 10:11 pm #4387Anonymouswell Nine, good luck with getting Ox and hopefully we’ll get Van Dijk. I’m ok with us waiting to get Keita but we need a top CB right now, so its a worry but I’m gonna trust Macca as he’s not been wrong so far.
the worry about us being happy to wait on Keita is that maybe the club knows that Can is set on leaving and that would be a huge shame. he was brilliant yesterday and even as good as Lallana is, I think Can can fight to keep his place in the team.
That’s saying something for me. Lallana is a bloody amazing midfielder in my view (under Klopp)

28th August 2017 at 10:20 pm #4389Mak, still can’t see Van Dijk going to anyone and particularly not to Liverpool given everything Southampton have said? But we’ll know for sure soon enough.

29th August 2017 at 10:04 pm #4418AnonymousToday was quit the day for us, with 2 more left. The Van Dijk rumours went a bit crazy but nothing confirmed. I am hoping to hear soemthing on it tomorrow. UIt’d be nice if we got that deal to bring Lemar over also. Getting those 2 players makes this transfer window a huge success.

29th August 2017 at 10:10 pm #4419There is stuff written out there be it through paper talk or the net itself that Van Dijk’s sole preference is Liverpool. This is why it was reported yesterday he was changing football agents.
I’m surprised Kieta has already been sealed before Van Dijk.
I think Saints should take the money whilst the going is good from a financial point of view. It becomes a slightly different kettle of fish if a player’s head and heart has been turned elsewhere and there’s no going back which is what I see with Coutinho and based on that, you’d probably accept your player is on his way out one way or another.

29th August 2017 at 10:16 pm #4420It would be nice in general if we can bring at least one more new face (ideally Van Dijk).
We look as a squad a lot more bulkier and have more than one option albeit in suspect, the defensive side.
I know Klopp generally likes to field an unchanged line up week in week out when it comes to the Prem, but the idea of bringing players off a little early when we are in a comfortable winning position means individuals avoid the risk of injury and heavy tiredness.
November and December I feel would be key hurdles of the season to contend with as far as progress in both PL and CL go, plus the EFL Cup competition in between.

29th August 2017 at 11:53 pm #4422Latest reports as it stands is that we have a spending spree of around 170 mill.
Phillipe by Friday will be a Barcelona player and now, Liverpool it has been reported will match any bid of Chelsea’s to land the Ox if he himself wants to the move. If we can’t get him it’ll be Lemar, and as mentioned earlier, Van Dijk is doing everything he can to force his move through.
I don’t know why we’re playing ‘hardball’ with Palace as we should accept Palace’s bid of £25. It’ll certainly feel like loose change against the stakes we’re already reportedly in luxury of.
