Good to be here guys. Good to so many familiar names.
I expect a top 4 challenege but we badly need a trophy aswell. It’s all about progressing. I think we a formidable side in the attacking sense. Problem is we are going into the season with Lovren as 1st choice and klsvsn as cover. Defending is our issue.
If we can keep everyone fit thrn we will do very well. Problem is we have 3 injuries already. Sturridge, couyhino and lalanna out for sat. We need more players big time. A centre half is a must. Salah will suprise a few people just like mane did last season

10th August 2017 at 11:20 am #3377@HightownHope I used to post with the same handle I have now. Maybe been 3 years or so since I made the last post.
@Oz no worries mate. It’s your right to say your thoughts on the page and you make some great points too. I am in Singapore btw so our time zones are not too far apart.I think the odds of us getting Keita may have improved lately. If VVD comes in which still looks likely and Couts stays at least another year then I will consider it a smashing transfer window. we need a central defender that can command the back line at least.
So let’s see where things go. Watford game is a concern though with so many injuries already. But could be a chance for Solanke as a sub with Sturridge out.

10th August 2017 at 11:42 am #3386If we could have signed VVD, kept Sturridge fit and had a decent run of injuries, then I think we could have mounted a decent challenge.
However, not getting VVD (& Keita) and Sturridge still looking crocked and now Lallana out and I do still think we’ll start reasonably well, but we will tail off mid-season, unless we can strengthen in Jan.
I’m assuming Coutinho stays until at least next summer, but if we do manage to have a great couple of cup runs, challenge for the title, then who knows whether he’ll jump ship next year. But if he has a great season and Barca are prepared to pay £120m now, then at the very least we should expect £150m next summer.

10th August 2017 at 12:57 pm #3396must admit I am surprised at the lack of refreshing done by Liverpool and Spurs – it does not matter how strong a team is you always have to refresh your squad every season with at least 3-4 players to remain competitive at the top.

10th August 2017 at 1:26 pm #3398Rob…in Liverpools case, I don’t think it’s through lack of trying. They’ve lodged club record bids for Keita and VVD and I guess still harbour hopes they’ll get one or both of them

10th August 2017 at 1:32 pm #3402I’d settle for us Spuds to sign a new tea-lady if it would get the ball rolling!
Problem I think we have is simply finding players who are confident enough to try and compete with a pretty strong starting 11 for probably lesser money than they might be able to get at a “smaller” club… bit of a catch 22.

10th August 2017 at 1:48 pm #3406Good to see you here Banjo. Don’t forget to get your predictions in mate. See the predictor sticky thread at the top!
Yeah tricky one for Spurs as it will cost a lot to get players ready to displace any of your starting XI. I wonder though why they haven’t just spent some money on lesser players who can at least fill the squad out a bit. They’re looking incredibly light if any of the star players get injured

10th August 2017 at 1:55 pm #3407Depends which “star” my cyber chum!
Still reckon we’ll end up with Barkley and this young CB from somewhere in Argie-bargie.. can’t remember his name. I see we’re also linked with another RB/CB from Ajax too today.. but like the Argie-bargie lad, wouldn’t know him if he mugged me._____________________________

10th August 2017 at 4:18 pm #3413Think you had your fingers burnt with Monsieur Sissoko last year, and it’s frightened them out of the market!!

10th August 2017 at 4:32 pm #3414You’re not wrong there HH, Disco Sisiskksisiskko turned out to a bit of a dancing queen!!
Just hoping the whole “advantage of a settled team” theory kicks in this year…. 🙂

10th August 2017 at 5:22 pm #3422I’m not sure Barkley would be a good buy for anyone really. He doesn’t seem to have kicked on at all since he was 18/19. He may be an ok squad player I suppose and that’s what you need right now

10th August 2017 at 5:34 pm #3429Barkley couldn’t be any worse than Disco and more likely to actually be a real person than Lamela…I’d have him at the Spuds as back-up to Erik, Ali & Son….

10th August 2017 at 6:12 pm #3432Yeah fair point Banjo. What’s your take on Danny Rose wanting to play up north story? I don’t blame him for wanting to move up north ? but it was a bit of a bizarre interview!

10th August 2017 at 6:49 pm #3433Didn’t read it, but last season he Danny said he wanted to grow old with this team…..
Maybe he wants a pay rise but pretty sure he signed a new contract with most of the others at the start of last season, so I’m going to guess he’s got at least another 4 years to go… it’s gonna cost somebody a wedge and a half…better than Walker…._____________________________

10th August 2017 at 7:20 pm #3435The thing that kills me about Rose-gate, would he be spouting his mouth off about top draw players if we were bidding for LB’s? I say make a bid for Shaw!! 🙂

10th August 2017 at 8:32 pm #3436Probably not. He’s obviously a bit jealous about Walker going and earning a hell of a lot more at City. I read somewhere that Walker earns 130k now to Rose’s 30k. Some difference that especially when, as you say, Rose is probably the better player.
Shaw would probably be a good buy for you but he’d probably want wages way above what you’re paying Rose so Spurs would be much better just paying the going rate. It only costs more in the long run not to!
