Sean, Big Sam is a master at setting his team up like that and in the second half West Brom became a bit more adventurous. Strange goal the spin seemed to take it in. Had it not bee for a brilliant save by Johnstone Liverpool would have won.
One of those days mate and the longer West Brom stayed in the game the more likely it was that they would get something and it could have been worse had it not been for Alissons save.
As you rightly say you can’t criticise Sam for his tactics they need every point and had they played an open game v Liverpool they would have got stuffed.
It was a great point for West Brom they’re still up against but a point at Anfield could inspire them to safety?
Frustrating for Liverpool fans as it feels like a defeat but in the grand scheme of things I don’t think it will impact too much on Liverpool’s title challenge and from a neutrals viewpoint it keeps a lot of teams still in the title race. Cheers 9’s

28th December 2020 at 9:22 pm #172904Brian, that’s fine. I respect your view too – one thing we do have in common is OUR Style of Football In Pep and Jurgen – we shall not be moved haha π π

28th December 2020 at 9:27 pm #172905Sean, Hope you’re Good. Only just picked up your replies on the other page.
I mentioned the point about signing a new CB. It wasn’t just because of yesterday. It’s for long term. Van Dijk has never had an equal partner by his side.
Another Top Center half Signing will helps us mate π

28th December 2020 at 9:30 pm #172906Mario out for the season so we need another centre back mate. We need two maybe one on loan

28th December 2020 at 9:54 pm #172909Sean, agree.
We’ve been linked with Tyrone Mings and Conor Coady. Mings unfortunately is injured, but I like the guy and he’d be a good fit.
We’re letting this one swept under the rug mate if we don’t at the very least sign 1 person.

28th December 2020 at 11:04 pm #172911Sean I assume you mean Matip out for the season? Where have you read that? It looked like a family routine abductor strain which would put him out for a couple of weeks.
Regarding transfers none of you should get your hopes up too much, we are skint. We have already offset future budgets with the large purchase of Jota so any further large transfers would be stupid in these financially uncertain times. And if they are not home grown I am fairly sure we have no room for them unless we offload someone first, most likely Origi or Shaq. If they are home grown expect a huge mark up on their price.
Loans of the quality we need will be very difficult, what teams can afford to let a quality centre back go with the crazy schedules every team is facing? Probably better off with what we have at the moment.

28th December 2020 at 11:52 pm #172912It seems from experience, we not going to be able to maintain full strength and fitness of every player.
I wish I knew some form of a ‘Science’. We had smaller dept in squad in the 90s that were more Pie and Fish ‘n’ Chips; Mushy Pies, Baked Beans, Mashed Potatoes.
I don’t know. These guys are lean; are they carrying any weight? I sense there’s pressure on them being athletic and ultra quick.
Matip is First Class and One of the Best Klopp Signings; likeable Professional and Good at his job. We do need to sign and bring new CBS in. Relieve the pressure.

29th December 2020 at 12:36 pm #172930Threeps, a mate told me matip is 3 to 4 months which he read on some Liveroool
Site. he had a grade three groin tear of the muscle of that makes sense. Could be wrong mateIf thatβs true then we need even a loan signing threeps. Fabhino gets injured and we are fooked. Even if untrue about matip, he will get injured again.
We canβt be defending a league with 4th,5th and 6th choice defenders but I agree, we donβt have any money to spend

29th December 2020 at 1:31 pm #172932I guess any loan player, probably needing to be home grown, will be lesser quality than Williams and Phillips.

29th December 2020 at 1:34 pm #172933I donβt know threeps but Philips and Williams have 6 pl
Appearances between them. Could we go for a player like say Gary Cahill on loan ? Imagine we have to go the whole season with Philips and willians as our 1st choice??Surely there are options out there????

29th December 2020 at 2:30 pm #172937Sean, Cahill is a key player for Palace albeit he’s a bit injury prone but I can’t see Palace letting him go on loan to anyone.
I’ve not seen the Coady and Ming’s links and whilst you can never say never in football both would be very expensive and I can’t see either Wolves or Villa being likely to let either go.
However Garay for instance is available and is without a Club currently and he could do a job until the end of the season.

29th December 2020 at 3:06 pm #172938Garay hasn’t played since February after being out with acl and at 34 I’d say is more of a risk than the youngsters. Plus we’d need someone off the non home grown list first.

29th December 2020 at 3:20 pm #172940I know threeps but if Liverpool are going to sign someone and if they really have limited funds and limited options because of the home grown rule they are going to have to pull something unusual out and the three names suggested above would be very hard gets and it might well come down to what you’ve already got.

Someone like him whose English etc
Mi know much easier said then doneI really really doubt we will spend big but we need to have some answer as itβs acrisis with your 3 first centre backs out for a while chums

29th December 2020 at 3:31 pm #172947I’m just trying to downplay expectations as I really don’t think we will sign anyone and as you say Nine it may come down to what we already got. Trust me I’d love it if Edwards is pictured next to a smiling Koulibaly announcing a 4 year deal or Tyrone Mings is pictured doing the Melwood (Kirkby?) lean but I just can’t see it happening.

29th December 2020 at 4:50 pm #172951Ye I canβt see that happening either for a multitude of reason threeps but surely there is some plan as this is a crisis now
There is no way we can be expected to defend the league with our current centre bsck options

4th January 2021 at 8:54 pm #173295What a grim 1st half that was. What has happened to Trent? Ox looking list also, and Hendo ain’t a centre back. Apart from that…!!

5th January 2021 at 7:04 pm #173331Sean, cheers for your reply on the other page mate. Only just free to read posts from yesterday etc.
Your above post was spot on. Hendo and Fabz in midfield protect our back 4.
We’re slightly out of tune to were we wanted to be which was 5/6 points. Now we’ve been pegged, but it’s important that we don’t let this slump manifest into something deep and we bounce back. We need a good happy result this Friday, then
Man United the week after.
