Il mate, there’s no empathy and rightly so as we haven’t been ripped off. I’d say the mane offside at Everton could have gone out way but all today’s decisions I thought were correct. Pen was harsh but we got one similar againest West Ham
Everything fell into place last season mate. Things aren’t exactly going againest us apart from injuries but I’ve no doubt we will get stronger as the season goes on
No way is anyone going to run away with the league this season. It’s going to be very tight with spurs, Chelsea city etc all up there. Last two seasons have been freak seasons with points
Today is frustrating as conceded so late but in my honest opinion, we didn’t do enough to win.
Tough week coming up but let’s keep the faith mate

29th November 2020 at 3:42 am #171112AnonymousWe’re not ever going to agree on everything but I don’t see the comparison between this and West Ham. I know Pagan made it and it was good for some objectivity but that’s where the comparisons end for me. One was a penalty and the other wasn’t. it never was about the player making the most of whatever contact was made (which Salah did for sure), it’s about meaningful contact. Before people tell me that it doesnt mention meaningful contact in the rules, it is a contact sport, so whether it’s written or not, it’s an inherent element.
There was contact but there was no meaningful contact, there was nothing developing in the play, no chance taken etc etc. Some of that matters, some of it doesn’t (except contextually).
If this is a penalty then all contact inside the box is a penalty. Well, as I say, we don’t have to agree but that’s my opinion. If we had played better and “deserved” the 3 points maybe more people would agree, or maybe not. I could be wrong but I really don’t think I am on this one.

29th November 2020 at 8:41 am #171117Mak, that’s the problem, once it goes to VAR it goes to a yes or no decision according to the laws of the game, in this case was there contact, there’s no leeway given and no understanding that football is a contact sport…..Pagan

29th November 2020 at 9:08 am #171121We’ve been going round in circles. The fact of the matter in what’s currently presented to us effectively an unproductive week (bar 1 point gained) from the 2 matches played. Disappointment. Despair too because once again, we’ve accumulated injuries.
Nobody’s being reasonable or understanding when we’re asking for a kick off time to me moved to 5:30. One of the female presenters on 5 live yesterday did however. Even 5 hours makes a difference to preparations.
There’s no return date on any players at the moment apart from Trent. Where’s Alcantara? Messed up by Everton, yet no punishment.
Decisions going against us (wrongly!) We need to win both our home games now re champions league and when we play Wolves, then just focus on the racking up points the rest of December. Let’s hope the others drop points today.

29th November 2020 at 9:44 am #171127Ah it’s been a good discussion nil mate. You abd mak have made some good points. I’m very optimistic about us these days as we finally won the league after 30 years. As you say, get through the next two games abd will have players back. Thiago is out for this week again in anyway mate

29th November 2020 at 9:53 am #171128Nil, it’s swings and roundabouts with kick off times, over Christmas some teams get a 48 hours turnaround, others have 72, that’s what it is and managers have to plan accordingly and then react to any injuries…..Pagan

29th November 2020 at 11:31 am #171137Nil, as I’ve said before they couldn’t move the Brighton v Liverpool game to 5:30 pm yesterday as it would have clashed with the Everton v Leeds game being televised at that time.
As Pagan rightly says it’s swings and roundabouts with kick off times especially the televised games and you have to take the rough with the smooth and it’s the same for all Clubs.

29th November 2020 at 12:58 pm #171141AnonymousYa, I don’t have much of a problem with the kick off times that we’ve had so far. I am not preparing a team for a match of course but as the others have said above… I am currently more concerned with the lack of 5 subs and also after the dust has settled from yesterday, I am wondering if I am now anti-VAR. That and the changes to the rules that they brought in with it of course.
I’m actually thinking they should just scrap it entirely. Why have I flipped? I think it could work if it were implemented well but given how poor a job they’ve done on it, will they ever really have it working to a point where it’s giving us more than it’s taking away?
My current answer to this question, is no, I don’t think they are up to it, so just get rid of it and go back to the way it was.
Anyway, leaving that for now, what we need is to hear that Thiago is back soon. That’ll give everyone a lift. You have to wonder though, why is he out so long for what they said it was?

29th November 2020 at 1:02 pm #171142AnonymousOk, I decided to go looking for info on our injuries
Trent is listed for a possible return on the 5th but Thiago has no date listed. there’s a quote there from I think Klopp saying : “Nov 22: “Thiago is not in team training yet. When? I don’t know. We will see. I know it’s not too far anymore, but I have no idea.”
So good news on Trent but I guess there were complications with Thiago. Him saying it won’t be too long though is hopefully no more than 2 weeks.

29th November 2020 at 3:10 pm #171154AnonymousSo, putting this match aside, we have Ajax on Tuesday. I don’t think we should risk anyone who doesnt need to be there. We have a match after that against the Danish minnows, so I’d actually rest everyone I could, not care about this result too much and try to get our players back out of the physical red zone, as I think Sean put it previously.
As Im trying to draw a team up, Im really seeing that we’ve got problems even attempting to rotate. I’d want to rest Gini but with Milner, Keita, Shaqiri, Thiago and Ox all injured with Fabinho needed at CB because we didnt register Philips,,, Although I don’t see Matip on the injured list, so I guess he’s ok to play but I’d really not want to risk him if I didnt have to. throw the lunch lady in there, we’ll need Matip for Wolves.
1st draft :
Adrian
Neco W – Rhys W – Fabinho – Tsimikas
Hendo – Wijnaldum – Jones
Minamino – Origi – ManeYa, I dunno about some of that, especially Minamino there but giving us the best chance to beat Wolves is how we win this game, in my opinion. I don’t imagine everyone will agree with me there and maybe you’ll vomit at that 1st draft. So I’d try to take off Fabinho, Hendo, Wijnaldum and Mane at either half time or at the 60 minute mark. Who to put on would depend on who’s actually available of course but Salah for a few minutes would keep him sharp without majorly risking an injury and since Mane came on for him with 30 mins left the last day…
I don’t think Neco Williams will make it at this club, he’s not a PL level player but some young lads grow into the game given time and this match might be good for him.
If anyone here thinks we could drop Minamino back into midfield to enable us to swap Hendo back to the 6 and allow us to play Minamino in the 8, that might be nuts but we could give Gini an entire rest that way. As I said, that would be 90% of my priority, with us dropping points in the PL ;largely due to the mass of injuries that we’re getting. Something has to go and this isnt a must win CL match. if we even turn up against the Dane’s we’re qualified (nothing is assured of course).

29th November 2020 at 4:10 pm #171159Our draw from yesterday delays the inevitable. Top spot will change hands. I think by the time all football has been played it could well be Leicester.
A draw would be better for us as far as Chelsea-Tottenham game goes. Spurs do have some difficult games coming up. Not so sure with my thoughts, just have to suck-it-up! 🙂

29th November 2020 at 4:36 pm #171161Agree with that Sean. Origi is basically a cult player now still running on past big goals. He offers us very little now and is no where near the quality we need.
Quite like Shaq, but his injuries don’t seem to be helping.
As for Keita, is he ever going to be able to play a run of games now? Again, we need someone who is more reliable.
Suspect Jürgy will have to dip into the market after Christmas.

29th November 2020 at 7:16 pm #171183Trent should be back soon and hopefully Tiago. We’ve got a couple of matches where they are winnable and we should be nailing 6 points. We don’t have a lot of choice with our current situation. We have to utilize players more. This is why Klopp is vehement about 5 Subs.
There are too many injuries and some players naturally take longer than others to heal. Klopp is now more vary than ever in protecting his players. I don’t think he wanted to take Salah off, but with everything that’s gone on, he feels almost cursed.
It’s finding the right blend and we did enough yesterday to get the win bar everything that went on. Maybe going forward, Keita could be deemed as an impact player than a starter. As mentioned already though on here, hopefully reinforcements come January.

30th November 2020 at 11:21 am #171230Anonymous“Origi is done lads. Brings nothing these days

i agree with all of this. The only reason I have them in the team is as I said though, we have no choice but to start resting players and this will be the last CL match that we don’t need to win. Is it a risk? Sure there is some because no match is a certainty but we have the Danes last and if we can’t beat them then we don’t deserve to be in the CL.
I don’t think Origi will offer anything, I even wonder if we’ll get any money for him at this stage but he = one of the top 3 being sharper for Wolves.
Keita, well I’m sick of getting my hopes up about him. He is one of the most injury prone players we’ve ever had. Seems he gets 1,2 or 3 matches and them tears a muscle. Will remind you of Sturridge there in his last few seasons. Shaqiri also cant be relied upon but he at least doesn’t need as much time to get back to an effective level and we’re never relying on him, he’s a bonus. I’d still try and replace him though, as it would be nice to have another reliable player in there. I will add Ox to this list too, we definitely need to replace him. He offers some nice goals or spells but I’m still not entirely convinced about his performances over 90 minutes.
This Ajax match though, we might well lose it with our strongest team, which looked dead on their feet the other day. Just sacrifice the match, take the loss and have a chance at 3 points against Wolves, stomping the Danes then next week.

30th November 2020 at 11:28 am #171231AnonymousNil, I’d see Shaqiri as a potential impact player. Keita takes a while to get going and then either gets injured before he does or right after a decent performance or 2. Really, he’s worse than useless for us, as he’s costing the club a massive amount of money, money that could be going to a useful player. If/when we go to sell him, I really wonder what we’ll get. Edwards is great but… I’d say clubs would refuse to buy outright and would only go for some loan deals, maybe a loan to buy could be arranged but it couldn’t be the PL because he cant handle the physicality. Just sell him for 10m and be done with it, I think. That’s low enough that maybe you might get someone who will take a risk?
As for Shaqiri and Origi, we should have tried to sell them both during the summer. Maybe we should have tried to sell Origi the previous summer? We won’t get a penny for him now, everyone’s forgotten his goals from 2 seasons ago.

30th November 2020 at 6:21 pm #171258AnonymousKlopp has updated us on Thiago. basically it will still be a few more weeks at least with him. basically the injury was worse than they feared due to the impact on the knee.
The manager told his pre-AFC Ajax press conference: “Thiago we have to maybe clarify it a little bit.
“On that day when Thiago got injured in that challenge in the Everton game, there was another bad injury [to Virgil van Dijk] and after the scans it was like one was really bad news and the other one was really good news because nothing was broken, nothing was ruptured and stuff like this.
“But, as we realise now, it was still a massive impact on the knee. The problem is in a situation like that, nothing is ruptured and nothing is broken and that means everybody thinks, ‘OK, you can go after a few days’, but the impact on the leg was that big that it is still not OK.
“It is not massive and he trains from time to time, not in the moment because we just have to realise that we have to go a few further steps. I can’t say exactly when he will be fine, but it will take a few weeks still with Thiago.”
So Thiago has been told to stop training, that is very worrying to me. Have they spotted potential damage on a scan of the knee? I guess you can’t mess around when it comes to that joint and the ligaments and tendons that support it. Look, if it helps him avoid a potential season ending injury, let’s not bloody rush him back.
It’s kinda disappointing but safety first!

30th November 2020 at 6:28 pm #171261Yeah Mak, Keita’s been a disappointment in his injuries as I really had high hopes for him. I’m not sure if he’s ever really reached his potential since signing for us. A real shame. Injuries have really hit us hard this season. Nobody seems to be listening to Klopp vehemently expressing the need for 5 Subs.

30th November 2020 at 7:01 pm #171265AnonymousWe’re doing absolutely brilliantly, considering. Squad is decimated and we’re level at the top. Of course, teams can sometimes do well enough without a key player for a while and missing Gomez and Van Dijk might start really hurt us even after the others come back. Football can be weird like that.
Gotta look past the Everton and Brighton results now and see if we can find something to enjoy, as our team hopefully continues to remain top or very close to it.
