Minamino and Jones were outstanding. The whole team showed a desire and a hunger that a reserve team sometimes doesn’t, if you know what I mean. They played with exactly the same intensity as you would expect to see from the first team. It was refreshing to see. Mak, dunno where you heard VVD was poor. He strolled through the first half, and we conceded the goals after he’d gone off!

25th September 2020 at 9:07 am #166694Spot on HH about attitude and application even if was an opposition of an ilk of Lincoln. For me personally, I want us to start winning Domestic Cup Trophies and take them a little seriously.
Rather than placing an entire different 11 full of youngsters, we mixed it up. I think we conceded the goals each half and Van Dijk was fine.
It was I think Klopp’s idea to play Fabz in the Centre to see how he gets on the back of his display from Sunday. Again, a generally fine display that showed he could handle himself. Kostas and Williams need more time, but they look from first impressions to have an understanding and a future partnership so encouraging from that POV. Jota got his first taste.
Above all, it really was great to see our depth put in not only a good shift, but deliver too. 7th Heaven indeed 🙂

25th September 2020 at 9:37 am #166695Didn’t see the game (not on Sky over here) but saw highlights and match reviews and it seems Minamino had a very good game playing in the Firmino role. Lots of hard work, good positions and involvement with a fair amount of skill too.
Firmino I think is the hardest player to replace if he is out of a game or when his time is up at the club as his role is very unique compared to other strikers. We seen it with Origi and I am sure if you put a higher quality player like Kane or Aubamayang in there it would compromise the style of play. He is so important to this team even when not playing his best.
Maybe Taki will be Firmino’s successor? Have to remember this was only Lincoln. I expect him to keep his place versus Arsenal in the next round so that will give us more of an idea against better opposition. If he is hopefully it means we have a suitable replacement when Bobby is out but also perhaps push him to maintain the high standards we all know Bobby is capable of.
Curtis Jones seems a very confident young lad! Lovely shift of body for his second goal.

25th September 2020 at 11:10 am #166697AnonymousSean, I saw nothing of the game at all. was just going from the player ratings. I forget where exactly but sky or the Echo. They gave him a 6, some others getting 7s and I think 1 or 2 8s.

25th September 2020 at 11:48 am #166698It’s good to see there is a pool of talent that are maximizing their potential. That’s healthy and positive because yesterday showed if these guys can consistently perform like this or at the very least exhibit that appetite and really play unselfishly for each other, they’ve then got every opportunity to break into the first team and more importantly for their own welfare, secure a long-term future with the club.
We often lock ourselves in the here and now. If look at the ‘what ifs’ and ‘for the future’, then our future could look very hopeful.
Great and if anything, near perfect the way Klopp is sculpting the entire squad. He does try and place an emphasis on youth development and tries to nurture individuals to make them believe in themselves and be better players.

26th September 2020 at 7:53 am #166709AnonymousWith all the talk on Jota and Sarr, you’d be forgiven for forgetting (what a mouthful) about Minamino but he’s taking steps forward all the time. Hope he can surprise people.

27th September 2020 at 10:53 am #167207New live matches scheduling seems to be drip-fed onto the mainstream. My personal choice is Saturday Tea-time or even Friday night (Huddersfield and Norwich spring to my mind and Salah :-))
Anyway our game against Villa is next Sunday, Live, 19:15. Bit of an unusual slot, but I’ll be looking forward to it 🙂

29th September 2020 at 2:00 am #167827AnonymousJota is going to fit right in here. I have to say that although Mane was excellent, it’ll do himself and the other 2 forwards to know that they have finally got competition. Jota replaced Mane very well but he was replacing a guy who put in a fantastic performance, ran his arse off etc. I tell you this though, he was better than Salah for the remainder of the match…
I am only saying that in the sense that even though Mane was subbed, Salah wills till have seen his performance… and even that time he stole the chance from him… If I were Klopp I’d have had words with him over that but thats me.
I really really liked Jota though lads. The guy is electricity. He had bags of energy and just went the path of least resistance towards the ball/space. Then when it came to it, he had the intelligence to roll short pass when at the edge of the box, instead of the more inviting smash across it. it setup a really great play from us that is just so unfortunately didnt end up in a goal, or everyone would be banging on about it.
The guy just belongs here, I know he’s gonna be a great signing.
Alisson… so glad we had him for today, he had 2 brilliant moments that kept us in the lead long enough to secure the points. Huge credit. Gomez was a lot closer to form. We’re good now TBH, I don’t wanna get too cocky but I saw the title winners out there.

29th September 2020 at 2:50 pm #167849Bollocks! Not to you, Mak, but I was three quarters of the way through a long post praising our team and club, my phone went and I lost the post!
In a nutshell, we are blessed to be watching this team. 50 years ago this year I went to my first game, but I can honestly say I believe this is as strong in team in every sense of the word as I have ever seen represent Liverpool. They need a few more trophies to really be classed with the 87 or 78 teams, but just everything is so good right now, apart from not actually being able to watch them live. From boardroom to backroom staff, from manager to first team, and crucially from reserves to transfers, we’ve never had it so good. There just are no weaknesses.
And last night was without Hendo and Thiago!
I’ve put this on the Liverpool thread so as not to antagonize our other posters and i dont wish it to appear too arrogant, but God I’m enjoying it. Even Robbo’s mistake last night just galvanized the team to greater efforts. Maybe they should have killed the game earlier but let’s not forget Arsenal were also unbeaten, and while I take Steveos point about Arsenals set up and tactics, we blew them off the park. Never doubted we’d win it even if they’d got a second.
And Mak, you’re right…Jota looked the real deal. Minamino looks better and better each time he plays. Hendo and Thiago to come back, and let’s not forget Curtis Jones who I think will be a real talent. The reserves win against Lincoln increased my optimism as well. They played with an intensity and flair that mirrored the first team, albeit against a League One side.
It truly is a good time to be a Red. Was it you,Sean, who seeing our first 3 games predicted one point? Instead we have outplayed 2 of our likely close challengers, one on their own ground, and all of our rivals have looked fragile at points this season.
Enjoy it while it lasts, because when Villa turn us over on Sunday, I’ll delete this post! 🤣🤣

29th September 2020 at 3:24 pm #167851Yup, for once, I can’t really say “we need” anyone else. I was previously a bit worried about cover for the front 3 and needing a bit more in midfield. All that looks to have been taken care of. The focus looks just as strong as ever and Mané & Salah look like they’re playing for their first trophy. Even Gary Neville had to concede last night that it was the best “lockdown” performance he’d seen so far. And as you say, there’s a real foundation there too with some of the young players coming through. This is what strong leadership and direction looks like. After all those false dawns, fabulous to see it. Let’s give the fans more to celebrate when they can come back…

29th September 2020 at 9:04 pm #167863Anonymous“It truly is a good time to be a Red. Was it you,Sean, who seeing our first 3 games predicted one point? ”
Maybe you’re talking about myself. I never predicted 1 point but I spoke about how newly promoted Leeds could cause us problems and then that we were meeting the other 2 sides before we’ve been allowed to get to full sharpness. I think I went on to say though that it’s after the first 3 that we’d start to get into our groove. I did but that might have come at a completely different time.
We shook ourselves off well after the Leeds match and tightened up a lot faster than I expected. Meanwhile other teams also suffered from a lack of pre-season and to worse extents than us. This team are hungry as hell and you’re too right about putting most of this kinda talk on the Liverpool site, as it’s hard to talk about this team and not seem massively arrogant but as you say, there are no obvious weaknesses, from head to toe. I bet we’ve the best lunch ladies in the PL.
I do hope that we can keep this train rolling for the 4 years that Klopp has left, as I don’t think he’ll stay longer than that. I don’t mean that i expect the PL each season but if we can defend the title this season and also get another CL win or something in the remaining time then that’d be incredible. The weird thing is, that just now when I asked that in the 4 remaining years, if we could win 2 more major trophies…. Did that even sound a bit like “we could do better than that man”? It did a bit to me, which is absolutely nuts. The cold hard truth about the PL is that big big teams can fall away behind other projects and that might still happen for us this season but I don’t see it. I see us putting in at least a very decent challenge for the title but TBH, we were amazing against Arsenal, just as good as we were last season.
3 games in, we look like we’re back on track towards another title but let’s see how that looks after 8 or 10 games. Who knows, maybe Chelsea will have clicked by then, or someone else… Can’t rule out City of course but they’ve got a lot of work ahead of them. It helps to make massive signings of course, if they work out.

29th September 2020 at 9:25 pm #167864AnonymousYa Nil, was really shocked when I read it but just hope he hasnt transmitted it to others. I do sometimes wonder just how far into the season we are really going to go. That’s kinda bleak and I don’t like to think about it but i cant imagine social distancing measures doing much for players, considering that they are in a full contact sport, with full contact training also.

3rd October 2020 at 2:47 am #167923AnonymousSadio Mane has got the virus!
Oh Jesus that’s devastating to us just as is but also what it may represent in our near future. First Thiago, now Sadio.. Will be end up losing half our team and is this a risk to the PL on the whole?

4th October 2020 at 10:19 am #167988Tough tough game today folks. If we approach this in the way we did a couple weeks ago at the Bridge, we’ll stand a chance. Villa have had a good start and maintain a 100% record. Grealish in good form. They’ll be relishing us tonight.
No Mane, our main man, but we now have Jota. This was the point I was trying to emphasize when we are trying to bring in players as back up.
4-3-3. I would be happy with Fabs in center defense again and Naby Keita starting.
