Sean, completely agree and totally valid.
If we can’t bring somebody in, then we can look at other options in defensive midfielders.
I know what you mean mate re the High Line and what we’ve started and played.
It’s Communication, Positional Play and The Overall Understanding between Centre-Backs and Full Backs. Obviously with everything that went on with Covid19, I felt reality-wise we lost our way in the Defensive part of the game.
If we can re-discipline this, then I fully believe we’d be back to the Level we ourselves precedented.

16th September 2020 at 8:21 pm #166233Thatโs it nil mate. Itโs all about the back 4 being in sync. Staying in a line and no one a yard forward or back.vvd communicating and organizing
I canโt forget how good we are going forward aswell so it shoujd be a very entertaining game but Chelseaโs pace will cause us trouble. Iโd put money on Werner to score if I was a betting man

17th September 2020 at 2:00 am #166244AnonymousThose stats are pretty unnerving Sean. I’d be extremely alarmed had we not had some some odd circumstances to deal with. Leeds was a wake up call but can the lads be fully awake and alert by the time we play Chelsea? Im not entirely convinced but I have some hope seeing that chelsea might need time to settle themselves.
Either way, this is a much much sterner test and if we defend like that, they might blow us away. There is no excuse for us to be carrying last seasons rubbish defending into this but if they want to have a poor opening game and then click back in, fine.
The thing I worry about though is that it isn’t just the forward who are too comfortable. There is no real competition for any palce in the side, besides the CM positions. Klopp likes to maintain small squads and it goes great so far but is it sustainable? Can he get these lads motivated again? The answer is probably yes but he should have managed it before now and clearly, he didnt.
We have something to prove this weekend, whether the lads know it or not. A loss will create some anxiety for the Arsenal match, where we could already be fighting an uphill battle to defend the title.

17th September 2020 at 7:42 am #166250I really donโt think motivation will be a problem mak mate. Klopp will be really getting stuck into these guys and drilling into to them about not being complacent
Thereโs something not right. Iโm actually worried about top 4 if we keep defending like that. It really is that bad.
Next 4 games will tell us if this is a blip or we really are going a bit backwards. Chelsea, Arsenal and Everton. Really tough tests and Iโm concerned were we will be after 5 ganes
I should be a bit more confident as the nack 5 are brilliant when playing really well. We still have a brilliant side. Just something niggling away at me.,
We badly need to freshen up the squad

17th September 2020 at 11:38 am #166262AnonymousYou’re right to be concerned,we’ve shifted back a few years in progress but I really do think it’s temporary. They tighten up to being solid by being 100% fit and mentally sharp. We can get it back. I do worry more for Gomez than the others, even though he started to kinda redeem himself as the match went on the last day. There was a bit of fire in his belly, which is what we need from the entire back 5.
As for freshening up the squad, you got your wish! We’re about to bid for Thiago and this time it’s true.

17th September 2020 at 3:21 pm #166273AnonymousYa man, I mean even if we were on form, we still have Chelsea and Arsenal in the next 2. I said the last day that I was glad Leeds managed to get 3 against us, that’s the lads wake up call. especially the manner of it. They aren’t the Kings anymore, they are just another team fighting for the title.
Which team shows up against Chelsea is anyone’s guess but I’d be kinda hopeful that we’ll hit form for Arsenal. The Thiago signing will be a shot in the arm for them too. he obviously won’t be ready for Chelsea but good chance he makes his debut against Arsenal, I guess. Klopp might want to take his time with him but I have a feeling he is ready-made.

17th September 2020 at 6:05 pm #166284Anonymousbecause we didnt spend a dime, the media and general football fans were all starting to call our day before a ball was even kicked. “Liverpool will finished 2nd/3rd”, merson even saying we might finish 4th.
I am not getting ahead of myself, nor am I suggesting that we’re definitely going to win the title, Im concerned about the next few fixtures and we might take a pasting from Chelsea and Arsenal. I am saying though that in one fell swoop, we’ve just told the PL that we’re going to be even better. That is at least our intention, so they better bring their A game.
Now, I know a lot of people have a genuine opinion that someone will finish above us and that’s all good but I tell you, I hope this Liverpool team shove the likes of Merson’s words back down his throat.
If we sign a CB, I am saying that as long as our next 5-6 games are all awful, that we’ll win that bloody title again. I really believe that.
I can not wait to see Alcantara playing for us. We’ve almost got the perfect 11 now.. He is the last piece of the jigsaw (in terms of first 11).

17th September 2020 at 6:06 pm #166285AnonymousLads, I’ll say it now. I wouldn’t mind seeing us cash in on Ox. He pops up with really important goals, so I don’t think he’s a bad player but he doesn’t fit into this side. He vanishes from matches too often and besides those goals, he cant really sync into the team at all. Would we get a pretty penny for him now that he’s almost first choice when fit?

17th September 2020 at 6:11 pm #166287Not sure Mak if it’s just online rumours. I found this:
Wolves offer ยฃ18m for Liverpool star – club want ยฃ35m deal
I haven’t seen anything from the mainstream Newspapers etc.

17th September 2020 at 6:16 pm #166288Mak, you’re right about Chelsea and Arsenal. Tough games and they’re back-to-back. These could be definitive to how our challenge shapes up. How would we reacted if we lost both?
I think we will try and be more disciplined. Realistically, I’m confident to get 4 points out of these 2 fixtures. Here’s hoping we do well.

17th September 2020 at 8:01 pm #166291AnonymousFair enough Nil. One thing about this though, I mean well 2 things. The guy is “apparently” a journalist, as it honestly says and all but this is what makes me think it’s just nonsense :
“Sporting director Michael Edwards wants ยฃ25 million plus a further ยฃ10 million in ad-ons to bring the deal up to something around the price Liverpool paid”The whole add-on parts of a deal are what come about AFTER serious discussion has been going on for some time. You do not start off by saying “we want 10m in add ons!”… So this is just utter nonsense, I’d ignore it if I were you but cheers for linking it all the same. Doesn’t mean clubs arent interested of course.

17th September 2020 at 8:06 pm #166293AnonymousI would be worried about losing both alright and the backlash that would come with it. There would definitely be a circus over it “GIANTS SLANE!” etc etc.
Having seen how poor we were defensively, in the last game… It’s not that I’m not looking forward to the matches, I’m just a bit nervous about them. I mean, we did start to get our groove on offensively, the last day. Maybe the level required to beat sides like Chelsea and Arsenal isn’t as far out of reach as it seems.
Chelsea have question marks over the fitness of both Pulisic and Werner. It would be just our luck that they will both be match fit and then combine in style tothrash us. Both players were on our radar and at the front of our prospective signings, for a long time… both went to Chelsea… ah man. At least we got Thiago!
