I think comparisons on how both Ireland and the UK are living with and managing the Coronavirus is very difficult as Ireland has a population of 4.9m and the UK a population of over 66m also there’s a lot more open space in Ireland than in the UK
By definition the bigger the population the bigger the number of Covidiots. ๐

21st July 2020 at 12:23 pm #132552AnonymousI thought I kinda wouldn’t care about us lifting the trophy, well not entirely but I thought my celebrating was done. Now that it’s coming soon though, I can’t wait.
Most of the other lads on here have seen their team lift the PL trophy, so it’s nothing new to them. During that time I still felt we were achieving special things. We’ve been in 4 CL finals in my time as a supporter and I’ve loved the road to them and even seasons where we didn’t make it, so I don’t really feel it would be right to call it 30 years of hurt or anything close to it. it’s been brilliant at times and awful others, with approximately equal measure.
Here we are now though, bringing home what definitely feels like that final… I can’t quite think of the word here, I’d say achievement but it’s more than that. The PL trophy will reside at Anfield from tomorrow on, it’s been engraved and all. I can’t wait to see them tying on the red ribbons, for all those years where we’ve been way off the pace or the few where we were close, it’s totally worth it now to see what I maintain is a project that is almost too good to be true. Everything about Liverpool is perfect right now. The owners, the staff, the facilities, the finances (virus impact aside), the players.. The whole thing is not only the best around but the character and charisma of the likes of Klopp, the effectiveness of the scouting department, headed up by Edwards, who’s name we’ve all got to keep mentioning, as he’s just as much of a genius as Klopp.
The only downside is that it’ll never be this good again. There is no topping this team/staff. We can all hope that we win the PL next season too and maintain what we have but that’s really all we can hope to do.
Doing so would of course elevate this team to a new level in history, so it’s obviously worthwhile but my point is that when Klopp goes there will be no upgrade, no replacement.

23rd July 2020 at 2:17 pm #133524In relation to our journey towards winning the Title, I had an incline once we reached 18 wins. We only had the draw to United at the time to our name, but we just Superb as far as consistency went.
The turning points had to be:
Leicester at Home – Last minute Pen.
Man City at Home – Had they won, they would have reduced the gap to 2 Points, we went onto increasing a 7 point gap.
Leicester Away – A Statement made on Boxing Day with an Emphatic victory and we didn’t let up.There was Villa Away and Sheff United Away too where got Lucky, but those were the victories that kept us steering in the right direction and not allowing anyone to catch us.

23rd July 2020 at 2:19 pm #133527AnonymousSo, do people think Milner will leave to join Leeds?
I definitely wouldn’t stand in his way and also with Lallana going, I think we’ve got to make a signing. I know we’re after Ruben Neves but I assume he’d cost a fortune and it doesn’t seem like we have much money at all to spend, so I guess bargain bin, backup signing?
Minamino doesnt seem to be cover for either player, being further forward. Sure we have Jones, who would definitely offer an option and perhaps Klopp plans to give him quite a bit of time in the first team. Personally I think it’s too early to DEPEND on him but I’ve nothing against him getting time when we are comfortable in a match etc.
Then there is Shaqiri, surely he’s off? Klopp clearly doesn’t rate him in the slightest.
Keita looks like he might work out, I’ve been burnt here before though, so I don’t want to get my hopes up too much but if he did shake his injury problems, he’d be like a brand new signing.
What do you think lads, do we need to get in at least 1 player? I think we might and depending on how many leave, maybe 2… but who’s available for lowish money?

23rd July 2020 at 3:11 pm #133548If Keita can stay fit, he could be a big player for us. But watching the game last night I canโt hide that I think we missed a trick not going for Pulisic. Our front 3 are just too comfortable, they have no real competition. We are desperate for it there. I know Salah does still have his great moments, but I thought last night typified a lot of his season; just too many over exuberant flicks, losing the ball too often and not converting enough. Pulisic would easily have got games for us and put pressure on the other front 3 to keep them on their toes. Just strange that we tracked Pulisic for so long and then let one of our rivals get him. We werenโt ruthless enough. Iโd be feeling pretty confident about next season if we had him in the ranks. Every team, even championship winning teams, have to keep adding every year.

23rd July 2020 at 4:43 pm #133587Considering Milner’s age it would perhaps be sensible to let him go even if it seems a hard thing to do given his great service to Liverpool and his overall professionalism. But if Klopp is to build a new dynasty at Liverpool he has to ship out some players sooner rather than later.
Johan Cruyff (I think it was) once spoke of the ideal squad consisting of one third youngsters, one third players in their prime and one third older players in order to keep and maintain a balanced squad and club culture. With that in mind it might be a good idea to let someone like Milner go._____________________________

23rd July 2020 at 7:18 pm #133645AnonymousI’d only want to let Milner go if he himself has a desire to give back to Leeds and help them stay in the PL. I imagine Klopp would be the same, as Milners professionalism is a good thing to have in the changing room.
Mikus, man I couldn’t agree more. the only thing that makes me comfortable about us not signing someone is this damn virus and the financial repercussions that we’ve got to deal with. That said, almost all other top clubs will suffer here too, dropping the price of players who are up for sale. So maybe something can be done but… It was really weird alright to just let Pulisic go like that. You’d think FSG would be driven by the fact that he’s going to be a household name in the USA soon. We knew that back then. Surely he’s incredibly marketable as a result and that’s not even counting all the footballing reasons you’ve outlined above.
All of the front 3 are too comfortable though. You must have competition and you must continue to try and improve, every season. My hope is that Klopp can get more out of these lads by working on the training pitch. We may just have to get through this next season and I tell you what, we’ll have to invest big then after that.

24th July 2020 at 10:40 am #133898I think we have to invest this summer. Thereโs an awful lot of hype about us at the moment about us dominating in the years ahead and Iโm far from convinced about it. It very much reminds me of when Andy Murray started to win the big tennis tournaments and there was talk of him then dominating in the years ahead. It didnโt happen, for several reasons, the main one being I think that he had absolutely battered his body to get to the top and the injuries had taken their toll. Now thatโs nothing against him, but I do fear thereโs a potential parallel with us in that weโre a close knit group of players who have played an awful lot of football over recent years and are therefore at risk of burnout. And itโs what ultimately happened at Dortmund after their success.

24th July 2020 at 10:41 am #133899So we have to freshen up. I now think we have made a major mistake in not recruiting at least one of Pulisic or Werner. We know how hard it can be to find top players. I can only hope the club knows what itโs doing, but at the same time I also have the fear the owners are quite happy using Klopp to mask our squad investment. Also remember weโve now had at least two seasons at the top; the idea that can continue with this same group of players and limited investment, I just donโt see it.

24th July 2020 at 1:36 pm #133937AnonymousExcellent posts as always Mikus and I do agree that we should continue to add to the pool, no pun.
It’s a good point about the owners too and you may be right but there is a counter position to that. What if the owners gave Klopp the option of selling to buy, or stay the same? I’m going to flesh that out before you answer but consider the squad value. Most of our worth is in players who are 27, 28, 29 area. That worth disappears over the next few years, it’s essentially spent, if we don’t sell the players on, re-investing more youthful yet, top talent into the squad.
This is hypothetical, of course but if it were to happen, perhaps Klopp said “I will spend the value of the squad, earning more success with it”.
I think Mane, Firmino and Salah are all 28 right now. In even just 1 year, their value will drop significantly and you know what it will be in 2 years.
Now, FSG would much prefer to liquidate those assets, buy 23-24 year olds and earn more success from them. This is the way of things before the virus, that is hurting us more than a lot of other clubs, as our wages are a very high percentage of our revenue.
Now, in this hypothetical scenario, I would actually lean towards FSG’s position. I love all our players at this stage but we’ve got to think of the future. I think it would have been wise to sell someone like Salah and then use that money to buy both Havertz and Werner. i think he could have paid for both. If not, pretty close. Instead though, we will get the most we can out of Salah (not an option Im complaining about!! he scores and assists more than almost every player out there) but when the time comes to replace him, it will not be a re-investment but will have to be a stone cold spend of other income.
Now, I know I’ve not done a great job at writing this out but I hope ye get my position. I’d be interested in a counter-argument to it. My heart says keep the players , my head says recycle the assets and keep the wheels rolling.

24th July 2020 at 2:06 pm #133945AnonymousIt’s hard to say anything even remotely solid, until we see how well City have done in the transfer market. We have players who are in their peak, approaching the later parts of their careers but City have players who are further on and need replacing now or very soon. David Silva is gone after this, Aguero is a year older. Fernandinho is in need of immediate replacement. Maybe they already did it with that guy who’s name I’ve forgotten but he hasn’t really replaced what he brought to the side. City still need at least 1 top defensive signing.
Liverpool need maybe 1 signing, that’s it. I mean, unless we are struck horrible injuries, we should be fine.

25th July 2020 at 9:17 pm #134378In all fairness, none of this has been of our Wrongdoing. Jose Celebrated 2014 at Anfield over zealous. Or Has Frank just conveniently rewired himself in the here and now.
Kudos Jurgen Klopp. I’ve chosen to Ignore but there seems to be residual resentment of some nature. Just let it go and move forward.

25th July 2020 at 9:29 pm #134381Nil,it was a questionable free kick Frank reacted to it it’s all just handbags and spur of the moment stuff and happens regularly and let’s be fair Jรผrgen is no shrinking violet on the line.
Good to see how much they both care imo.
Much more important things for us all to worry about.

25th July 2020 at 10:42 pm #134407Nine, I agree in the Grand Scheme Of Everything.
A lot went on, and I didn’t bother picking up on every detail during and after the game as I know it’ll just render replies/reaction and everything else.
He’s been seem going out of his way to hug Mane, then cite an observation on the Liverpool Bench. No Provocation, just Going About Business in Nature.
Just from a LENS of Liverpool Supporters which was purely why posted on the Liverpool Supporters Page.

26th July 2020 at 12:43 am #134433Nil, no worries mate but just to remind you it’s an open site.
I think Frank did get a bit hot under the collar but in some ways it was understandable he needs a point for CL football and he thought the free kick was unjust and even Jamie Carragher didn’t think it was a free kick.
Jรผrgen telling Frank to calm down did make me chuckle though but it’s all done and dusted now. Cheers 9’s
