Congrats to all Liverpool supporters. The right decision has been made and you will be given the opportunity to win and claim what is rightfully yours.
The Premier League and FA have announced that all professional football in England is postponed until no earlier than April 30. The rules state the season must be completed on June 1 but that will be extended indefinitely for this season.

19th March 2020 at 1:42 pm #8942367, there was never any doubts that Liverpool would be crowned PL Champions it would have been completely wrong for anything else to happen no matter what happend going forwards.
The announcement from the PL,FA, and the EFL that English Football is suspended until at last April 30th seems pretty ridiculous to me. Football was never going to resume before April 30th.
Whether the PL,FA and the FA and importantly the majority of the fans still have the appetite to extend the season indefinitely if we get into September or October or even later than that before Football can recommence is still open to conjecture imo.

19th March 2020 at 1:56 pm #89427Not based on the comments in the articles I have posted on the Corona thread and the comment above by Nizaar Kinsella. This current season WILL be completed immediately it is deemed safe to do so. Here to be corrected but that is pretty much what it says which I assume was the decision announced.
“The rules state the season must be completed on June 1 BUT that will be extended indefinitely for this season.”

19th March 2020 at 2:27 pm #8943567, I donβt disagree with the philosophy of trying to complete the Season but the point I was making was that we are now in March and every day now in fact almost every hour the circumstances around Corona Virus changes and the reality is nobody knows how all this is going to work out and when football may be able to recommence.
If it for instance gets to September or October or perhaps even later will the football bodies and more importantly the fans still have the same appetite to complete the Season no matter what personally I have my doubts.
βLetβs complete the Seasonβ is a good philosophy today but it may not be such a good philosophy in September or October if we are still struggling to complete the Season.
Nothing is set in stone in these difficult days 67 if weβre still not playing football by September or October perhaps even later which is quite feasible I wonder whether the appetite to complete the season will be as it is today particularly amongst the majority of fans Liverpool fans aside.
As I said itβs a good philosophy but we are heading into the unknown and it all depends on what happens going forwards with the Corona Virus.
At the end of the day given whatβs happening in the UK and around the world football and all sport is irrelevant now imo.

21st March 2020 at 4:16 pm #90773AnonymousNine, it’s so hard to even think about where we’ll be in several months time, when things are changing day to day here. The virus is absolutely exploding in America now and I think the attitude is very very close to a complete shift of mentality over there.
All we can do is continue to hunker down but Americas political soup is not helping them contain the rate of spread at all. Many of their Republicans think this virus is some kind of hoax and resent being told to stay in doors. I’ve read posts from people talking about their families who outright refuse to limit their social interaction and I’m not just talking about the young. One person on twitter some about how both of their parents have written the whole situation off and are out and about constantly…
I think you’re right that people may grow weary of the idea of completing this season. I’ve read the odd comment from Liverpool fans wanting to and you know my opinion on the matter but I’m already kinda tired of the subject. I still think that when the time comes I will care again and that my opinion will be the same… but it’s so hard to predict, given that this is all so unfamiliar with us.

10th April 2020 at 5:15 pm #95034AnonymousI see that Hendo will be named LFC player of the season. You all know my thoughts on this. I voted for Van Dijk on the Sky poll but I tell you, I’ve changed my mind. It’s got to be Mane.
An under-appreciated player in Salah’s shadow, in some ways anyway. His determination though and his defensive work, along with his consistency… How often did the other 2 have a poor game only for Mane to save us with a piece of brilliance? not that the other 2 are any slouches but Mane is more consistently brilliant.
Anyway, just thought I’d say this as a break from the virus.

10th April 2020 at 5:20 pm #95035AnonymousI will add that the thought has crossed my mind that Liverpool probably will offload one or more of the front 3 over the next year or so. They are all at the end of their prime years and their values will start to fall soon.
I don’t want us to ever sell Mane. I hope we just keep him until he can no longer pull his weight, then let him retire or go to a lower club etc.
I can’t say the same for Salah. His goals and assist would be almost impossible to replace but I think the club will look to extract that value and spend it on someone younger and cheaper. FSG are all about asset worth and it would make sense for them to do this, if there were a buyer who will offer us 150m-200m of course. I used to think we’d get 200m NP before, I don’t think so now but 150m is very do-able.
The player who will be coming in in such a scenario is of course, Werner. I mean I’d bet my left nut that he’s coming regardless.

4th June 2020 at 9:06 pm #113665AnonymousJust thought I’d bring the Liverpool thread back to life, now that we’re kinda dipping back into football once again.
I’ve already talked with Sean on another thread regards us missing out on Werner and I do take your points in mind Sean but I wonder if Werner might be something truly special. If he is, it’s going to be hard watching him light up the PL, knowing that we could have had 4 top players for 3 positions.
Klopp, Edwards and co have their reasons for stalling on making an offer and although I don’t entirely understand them, I do trust that they understand perfectly well.
I find myself, for the very first time in a long while, actually looking forward to the PL coming back now. I don’t mind, I just want to see us win it.
I will add that i really hope the rumours about Mane going to Real are false. Maybe us not going for Werner is confirmation that he’s staying? If you handed me the option to swap Werner for mane, I definitely wouldn’t, so I’d be happy there.
anyway, hope you’re all well lads. hope you’re ready to see us lift the PL trophy, even if it’ll be to an empty stadium.

4th June 2020 at 9:38 pm #113668Ye mak, still have my reservations wether it will go ahead or not.
First time in a long long time Iβve had a few football discussions. Some amount of live games announced but itβs just not the same without fans
Hopefully we can just get the league won and there are some good games mate
Empty stadiums just feel like friendlies but the stakes are very high and hopefully it goes ahead and finishes

4th June 2020 at 9:51 pm #113669AnonymousI do think it will go ahead, whether it gets delayed a little here or there,, but ya, without fans it looks like friendlies alright. The players need that atmosphere to gain that extra 5% of intensity but, we just need to get over the line and of course, Anfield won’t be any help to us next season, as we defend our title. It’s going to be weird and very difficult as it’s always been a great advantage to us in the past… maybe we’ll grow to appreciate it much more though as a result of this.

5th June 2020 at 10:38 am #113678Yeah, like you lads, I’m excited about it restarting, which seems to be a minority opinion on here, but I think the lift it will give to people (football fans anyway!) outweighs any minimal risk it involves. It will be very strange, though, watching games taking place at Anfield and me not being there. Not having BT Sport, I haven’t seen any of the Bundesliga, and I’m finding difficult to envisage football behind closed doors. I’m sure it won’t be nearly as good, but it’s still better than nothing.
Disappointed if it’s true that we have missed out on Werner…perhaps we’ll have Sancho instead!!

5th June 2020 at 11:43 am #113680I think that despite the obvious lack of atmosphere the restart of the Bundesliga has been deemed to be a success. The quality and commitment on show has been pretty good and certainly better than nothing at all.
Shame about Werner if as expected he signs for Chelsea. Good player. His style would suit Klopp’s ideas but not sure on the shape of the team. He is primarily a CF but not a Firmino type (who is??). I think he would best suit our team in the Mane position coming off the left with pace and an eye for a goal. But would Germany’s no 1 striker sign to be a wingers understudy? Despite all the noise he apparently made I’m not entirely convinced.

6th June 2020 at 11:51 am #113737Threeps, the restart had been a huge success over in Germany mate
They led the way.
Just couldnβt get into it though
Even develop a bit of noise through the tannoys or something?

6th June 2020 at 11:58 am #113739I thought they already did that Sean. BMG have cardboard cut out of fans that cost 19EUR donation to local charities and I think they play crowd noise also. Think that’s been a great idea.

6th June 2020 at 12:11 pm #113741To be honest it might just be Sky have the option to turn on crowd noise rather than it being in the stadium. I’ve not actually watched it much myself as I don’t have the Bundesliga Sky package, I only watched a little of the free to air games when they first started.
But I do like the cardboard cut outs, especially with the money going to local charities.

6th June 2020 at 12:17 pm #113742Must admit, I’m very disappointed about Werner, and although FSG have done great things for the club they really don’t splash the cash, do they? VVD and Allison were bought with Couts money, they spent nothing last summer, and now it could be that they’re keeping their hands in their pockets this year. I have read though that it was Werner’s wage demands that FSG didn’t like. Β£200k a week which would have put him at Salah’s level which wouldn’t be right. But even so, we can’t be short of a few quid, after our successes in the last couple of years and the new Nike deal. The loss of matchday revenue wouldn’t hit us as bad as some others either. I just hope that we don’t miss this chance of consolidating while we are at the top. We are in a position of strength being European champions, World Champions and English champions with a world class manager. The front 3 are 28, and 2 of them will be off to Afcon in January, so I really do believe we need some reinforcements this summer. Elliot and Jones, good though they may be, won’t win us anything next season or the season after. Grujic and Wilson are possibly similar levels to Shaqiri and Lallana who are likely to leave, and they may come back to add numbers to the squad, but it’s up front where I’m concerned.
Thoughts?

6th June 2020 at 12:45 pm #113744Hightown, I see what you are saying.
I donβt think we will pay big money for anyone
Lalanna and shaquri will be going. They need to be replaced. We need an upgrade on origi. I really canβt see us spending big mate
We got very lucky with injuries this season

6th June 2020 at 12:51 pm #113745AnonymousHH, I tend to agree with you. I know some on here think Werner wouldn’t have gotten near the team but I think he’d get a fair amount of minutes. I mean, that’s without injury problems, which we’ve been incredibly lucky with so far but how long can that last? With formation changes also, there’s the chance that all 4 could play together sometimes but maybe Klopp just isn’t keen on that anymore. If he isn’t then who am I to say otherwise, he’s the world class manager.
When it comes to teams in general though, you’ve got to add fresh blood here or there, or you risk going stagnant. The age thing is something I’ve mentioned before myself and although I love all 3, we can’t ignore the fact that they only have a few years left of prime ability. In fact, after they hit 19, their price will start to go down dramatically. Now, I’d be ok with keeping Mane and Firmino until they are no longer able to do it but I think we should cash in on Salah and get someone younger in and keep the value of the team high without losing money. I realise that there are of course complications but in simple terms, this is it.
and no btw, I do not want Salah to go, in a footballing sense. Just so we’re clear. This is strictly business and looking at our ability to stay competitive min the future.
I will say another thing, this is my favourite ever Liverpool side. it’s really going to sting to see these lads age/leave over the next 2-3 years. We’ve really got to enjoy them while we have them.
Oh and HH, ya, you’re not wrong about FSG and their spending. It’s possible that this is from Klopp, as he used to be quite a frugal manager. They spent/reinvested big when we really needed it and it’s paid off and will continue to pay off in the very near future at least. I do want them to spend but on the other hand, I can only be grateful for everything they’ve done. We just gotta watch out for stagnation is all.
