Mak….good to see your post again. I do have to update you on City, Re CB, we will sign one, mostly in case Laporte breaks down, like Kompany did a few seasons ago. and now Liverpool are so far ahead we can play two very promising youngsters Garcia and Harwood-Bellis as CBs for future. The losses this season are self inflicted as City fans know and a couple of fresh faces will arrive in the summer
Everyone goes on about the loss of Kompany but he could not have gone on for another season and was injured a lot in his last season. I think Pep reasoned we had CBs that mostly played and carried us through two momentous seasons, what happened after that was laporte was crocked, Stones became injury prone, Otamendi aged and we lost a valuable midfielder who had to plug the gap..Fernandinho…what a waste..in my opinion However, I am sure lessons have been learned and we will improve as we go along but I still expect a reversal in a couple of matches this season. This is Liverpools year and well deserved on the football and management they have shown so far.happy new Year to you_____________________________

5th January 2020 at 10:02 pm #57894I think jones has a huge chance of making it with us.
Klopp likes him. Heβs only 18 and in the 1st team squad. Jones making significant progress this season

5th January 2020 at 10:09 pm #57895It makes me think and believe that our League Cup Fixture be so closely scheduled to the World Club Cup, we’d have probably made the Semis. All well and good of me saying in hindsight, but I honestly reckon we’d have made progress applied this approach as we did this afternoon.

5th January 2020 at 10:11 pm #57896Considering his age, he has a different air about him vs the other youngsters. He has intelligence, maturity, composure, looks assured, i.e. he doesnβt look out of place in the first team. Just as he did in the game at Milton Keynes earlier in the season.

6th January 2020 at 2:26 am #57898Anonymous“2 clean sheets in 19 games that Fabinho has featured this season and 8 in 14 that Hendo has been the DM. Maybe weβre not missing him as much as we all thought we would!!”
In fairness to him, it’s not wrong, although Gomez coming in, is the bigger factor in my opinion. However, as a massive fan of what Fabinho does for us, it’s still kinda shocking. I mean, I’m not wrong about him am I? I think he’s out of this world good. Maybe there are games where he’s made a mistake here or there but in general, he plays to a very high standard.
I never rated Hendo as a DM before, not at all. I think his role is slightly different now but you can’t say he’s not doing well. He plays with more belief/conviction now and not just in the advanced play style (where I still prefer him).
The last time Gomez had a proper run in the team though, we have cleansheets galore. He’s back and they’ve returned. He’s too quick, powerful and clever for most opposition attackers. Van Dijk isn’t quite there when chasing someone, it’s ok Gomez will be there and vice versa. The 2 lads enable us to play with a very high line, Henderson dropping back allows Trent and Robbo to bomb forward and cause havok. We’re an amazing team really. The issue is that we just can’t afford any more injuries.
I still think we might need to go into the market in the summer for a midfielder but I’m less and less concerned about Hendo. I think for a time, he was getting dropped here and there and I thought maybe Klopp was having a think about him but he’s really improved, so I don’t think his place is at risk anymore. However, I would be looking at the likes of Shaqiri, Keita and unfortunately, Milner. Klopp is apparently resigned to losing Lallana and Miniamino is his replacement… but that’s kinda another shame because when Lallana has played this season, I’ve been impressed with him. With Milner getting less and less time, you’d think that maybe Lallana might get more but I guess he’s just too injury prone, which is a real shame because once he gets going, he’s a very capable player with a great mentality.
Brian Blue, cheers on the update man. I’ll keep an eye out for this Garcia chap. If you lads have an up and coming top player who can hit the ground running then we might have some problems. Half of the reason why I’m kinda relenting to calling the title if we win the next 3 was based on Pep refusing to sign a CB in January. I’ll be doing it more out of politeness to the other supporters on here because I know it was frustrating people (on all sides). These next 3 games are going to be so difficult though. We barely hung on against Wolves at Anfield and we’re playing them away. Then you can’t rule out a Jose team. They always seem to be extra motivated against us, with Utd also being in the same boat. 9 points would be absolutely incredible for me, with a much easier run of fixtures after that, for us to press whatever advantage we have by that point. Who knows, maybe we’ll lose 2 of those games.
the insufferable part of that would of course be everyone saying “oh they are bottling it”, you know, instead of people just admitting that Liverpool can not continue just beating every single team this season. It’s not really sustainable, or is it? It’s a tough question but I think we’re ready to answer it.

7th January 2020 at 2:23 am #57923AnonymousAnd we can put it out of their reach in 5 weeks. If we really push hard for it, it can be all but over by the time he comes back. 3 of those games are tall orders, no doubt… but if we somehow win every game between now and 5 weeks away *crossed fingers* it won’t matter a damn that he’s back. It’ll be done and dusted by then.

7th January 2020 at 6:16 am #57925Putting this in here as you guys will probably appreciate it and I have no intention of upsetting anyone on the general boards with a little joke, but…
Put “empty seats” into Google Maps or Earth and see where it takes you. π

8th January 2020 at 5:04 pm #58061AnonymousBrewster was meant to play a bit this season but he’s clearly not at the level that Klopp wants him at. That’s never a great sign but one really good loan move might just get him one step closer to to being able to feature here or there.
As for us going after yer medical bloke, bloody FIFA headhunted ours. I hope this won’t be too big a deal, as some of our players almost never get injured anymore *fingers crossed*. That front 3 is usually fit to play but perhaps we’ve got Minamino now to offer some extra cover.
BTW, I’d like to add the West Ham game to the 3 tough fixtures. Now that they have a new manager, they are no longer the easy target that they were under Pellegrini. I think it’s fair enough to say that we need to win every game from here til Laporte comes back and unless City also win every game (they might cause they’ve much easier fixtures) then maybe we fans can start easing our position on where the title is going.
Until then though, I’ll continue to worry about the next fixture.

9th January 2020 at 3:57 am #58103So I got asked by a workmate if I think Liverpool will win this season. My response was “it’d take a monumental capitulation if we didn’t” (that’ll surprise most on here). I don’t like saying it as the last time I said I thought we’d win it we obviously f’d it up but even though we are only half way through the season I’m looking at it objectively. We are actually getting players back from injury so the depth will only improve (provided we don’t have a major injury crisis) & like manu in their dominant period we are finding way’s to win despite not playing particularly well. There just seems to be a togetherness among the club & it’s awesome to see as a long suffering (in an EPL sense) Liverpool supporter.
I’m certainly not calling it as there’s way too long to go but we are well & truly in the box seat to end our long wait for the holy grail.Cheers lads, take care.

9th January 2020 at 6:00 am #58104Oz nothing wrong in being honest about the situation, doesn’t mean you are already celebrating. It would need a capitulation by Liverpool plus far better form from either City or Leicester to lose it now. Unlikely? Yes. Impossible? No.
Like a few on here I look at the next block of games and this one is probably our toughest block of the season, whilst City should win all theirs during January. The good news is that is flipped in February and March with City having a tough run of games (Leicester, Utd, Spurs and Chelsea all away).
That’s looking too far ahead to be honest but just wanted the share what’s coming up for both teams soon. I’m just focusing on the Spurs game which although Mourinho usually provides a difficult test, Spurs are not in great form at the moment, so I fancy all 3 points.

9th January 2020 at 3:23 pm #58121AnonymousGood to hear some positivity from yourself Oz. I myself am kinda in the same position . I teeter back and forth on the edge though because of these 4 games coming.
I think we have got to look at these 4 matches and say “if we win these next 12 points, barring a massive capitulation or injury crisis, it’s pretty much over”.
I think before that time though, these 4 games have the potential to erase most of our lead.
I just watched some videos on Youtube and they were talking about Liverpool as potential invincibles but I just can’t hear that kinda thing, especially heading into :
(A)Spurs
(H) Man Utd
(A) Wolves
(A) West HamI worry about us getting through these 4 games undefeated, never-mind the rest of the season!
–Do we really need to inform anyone about how Jose’s teams consistently up their game against us?
–Do we need to do the same about Utd?
–Wolves are an excellent side and we were lucky to beat them at Anfield. Away will be VERY tough.
–West Ham have a new manager and just won 4-0. They have a quality side and we’ll be facing them while they are still on the new manager bounce and of course after he’s had enough time to get them organized.
So ya, I’m definitely worried about these 4 matches but if we win them all that’s it, I’m calling the f***ing league. The neutrals think we’re being coy and are fed up with it, i get it but if we win this block I’ll stop annoying them and agree with them instead. Now that’s as clear as I can be about it but i really really feel that these 4 games have to have a spotlight shone on them. They are huge and they are going to be extremely tough.
Personally I think we’ll lose at least one of them. If we don’t though, we’re too good to not win the PL.
