Better to look at now
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liverpool_F.C.
We need to work on FA and League Cups. I feel the Younger Generation of Fans are losing out. Plus, it’s Trophies, Honours, moments and History!!!!!

15th August 2019 at 6:56 pm #45421AnonymousI’ve just caught up on some quite old (relatively) posts on here. I see 1-2 from Nil where he’s totally out of it and ranting. This combined with last night man,. maybe you need to stop drinking for a few weeks. it just seems like you’re bot in a great place right now man.
You don’t need to respond to this message but I hope you at least read it and consider it man. Also, if you can see a therapist (not a joke) then i think you can get yourself to a healthier mental state.

17th August 2019 at 9:36 pm #45674Adrian is a Question Mark. Maybe somebody to adjust to both him and from the Squad POV. He made a Top Class save from close from in the first half.
However, he cheapens himself with his decision-making and distribution. You can sense fragments of uncertainty.
Essentially that’s all to me that’s holding him back from being Somebody Top.

17th August 2019 at 9:40 pm #45675A more of an assured state of affairs today. We still need to be a little more clinical and take our chances, otherwise………

26th August 2019 at 7:47 pm #46393AnonymousWell, a lot of what we feared has been confirmed by Klopp. OK, “confirmed” is a strong word here but you understand :
I guess we’ve got to make sure that we win the PL within these 3 seasons. I think it’s very very do-able. There is a part of me that hopes this latest statement from Klopp is a means to increase his contract negotiations. You might say that this isn’t Klopp’s style and there’s a point there for sure but there are some situations where you’ve got to play the game, so to speak. Now what makes me think/hope that this is a tactic is that 3 years is a long time and I would wonder how anyone could be sure how they will feel in such a long time. The other side of that coin is that maybe he’s actually thinking these thoughts now and will go sooner.
If I were FSG, I’d hand him a blank cheque with a 3 year extension attached. I’m only half joking because really, Liverpool is a very different place without what Klopp has done./ The value of the club is shooting up and it’s not all PL TV revenue doing it. Maybe FSG will want to see out this season before talks get to the stage where sums are offered and I guess that’s ok as long as there are no red flags but I think it’s time Klopp were the highest paid manager in the PL, including Man City.

26th August 2019 at 8:45 pm #46395I think we just need to enjoy klopp and this Liverpool team until he leaves.
I just love watching this team. The spirit and the fight for everything.
We may never win the league under klopp but he will a legend for everything he has done.
Anfield is rocking these days. The atmosphere on Saturday looked and sounded unreal. Klopp has lifted this club to another level altogether. He has improved nearly every player. He buys and sells well.
We are very lucky to have him. I really canβt praise him enough.
In four years,The big European nights have been back and bigger then ever since Rafa left. Iβll be gutted when he goes
We are a big club again. Challenging again. Great times but it wonβt last forever so I just enjoy it

26th August 2019 at 10:20 pm #46398Early days yet, but thankful getting 3 out of 3. It’s just about each game and getting over the line. I’m sure deep down with everybody affiliation, the Title is on their minds.
We just need to try and keep Winning Trophies whilst we have the capabilities.

26th August 2019 at 11:01 pm #46399AnonymousThat’s exactly it Sean, which is why I can get a little frustrated at the down and out posts. If this isn’t a huge reminder to people that we’ve got to appreciate what we’ve got while we’ve got it then I don’t know what is. This is like the wife waking up one day and telling you she’s been thinking about your relationship. Get out the flowers FSG damnit!!
No, seriously though, as Sean said, we’re a big club again. We definitely weren’t for a long time (in terms of how significant others perceive us anyway). I don’t want to go down a road of talking about how many fans we have etc cause that does validate you as a big club, of course… but when we get drawn against a team in Europe, even the biggest teams collectively shit themselves just a little bit. Of course we do also and that’s how Big v Big works but we’ve been underdogs for decades, until now. We’re the current big dogs in most scenarios but it won’t last. It may even end before Klopp goes but it almost certainly is over (to some extent) when he walks out the door and that is sooner than we all want.
I hope this motivates the team into thinking about achieving while they can and such, also. 3 years is a long long time in this business but when a deadline has been set, it’s no longer some intangible future date.
anyway I’ve rambled long enough, sry.

27th August 2019 at 8:03 am #46407Mak, you never see me moaning or been negative these days lol as Iβve absolutely nothing to moan about
Club is in a great place. Itβs going to be very difficult to win the league but I donβt see why we cannot challenge again

27th August 2019 at 9:31 am #46414AnonymousAye, you really don’t but even if someone were to pick on something and complain about it, for example us not signing anyone, sure. Signing people gives us the thought in the backs of our minds that we’re moving forward and without it, we’re staying still. There is a valid train of thought there and us fans have been through this all summer.
When it comes to the teams performance levels though, this is where I just get lost. When you get 97 points (remember everyone, 3rd highest ever in the PL), your team is SOLID, it’s quality is validated. The same when you win something like the CL (hence mostly why I’ve mentioned it in here).
I know Oz’s main issue with this Liverpool team and I’ve shared it at times. Since we no longer play the break-neck speed football, we aren’t as exciting to watch. This is definitely true but as good as it was, it was getting in the way. We removed this and we were able to last the whole season, achieving a level of consistency that I’ve never seen from us in my near 30 years as a supporter.
Oz, I think you asked me if we’ll go through this season losing only 1, again? Probably not. That isn’t to say that we’re going to regress, it’s just that a standard that high is something even City can’t promise. Not in the PL. That said, maybe now that the lads know they are the real deal and have the experiences of last season, perhaps they don’t throw away so many points in poor draws like they did towards the end.
As for “new signings”, compared to this time last year, Matip is like a new top signing. You lads all know that I advocate for Gomez being first choice but he can’t even get in the team. The only way Lovren gets anywhere near the pitch is with injuries. How bad.

27th August 2019 at 9:41 am #46415AnonymousDrawing a line at least partially under all this though…
With this latest development (Klopp suggesting he might call it time in 2022), do we think we’ve a good chance of winning the title before he’s gone?
I guess you lads know my answer is yes, we’ve a great chance in my opinion. It’s hard to look forward even one season, never mind 3 but if we keep at the level we’re at now, or close then we’ve always got a chance.
I will say that we will most likely regress significantly after he’s gone, no matter who comes in to replace him. I personally don’t agree with many that Gerrard is somehow the only man for the job. I would in fact question his credentials but that’s me, I guess.

27th August 2019 at 9:43 am #46416AnonymousIf Klopp goes, I’d want FSG to go and get Rafa. They are good owners who would offer a much much better level of backing than the awful H&G times. There just aren’t any other managers who I’d have much interest in TBH.

27th August 2019 at 10:53 am #46418Us guys have all been on the other site and sort of like family.
We went through a fair bit and nearly won the title in 09.
Not sure who I’d pick once JK calls it a day.

27th August 2019 at 11:44 am #46422I’d go for Pep Lijnders. As Klopp’s no 2 the transition would be smooth with the style carrying on from Klopp. Plus he has a few years to learn how to do all the manager type things.

27th August 2019 at 12:16 pm #46426AnonymousAgreed, good call on Lijnders, assuming he doesn’t move with Klopp to his next club. Sean, we’re a very different setup to the one Rafa inherited originally. He had to do his best with the standard of player we could attract at the time and although he is primarily still a defence first type of coach, his 08-09 team had reached a good level of overall quality, to the point where we were more offensive in nature.
It’s still a good point though, as even going from 2 seasons ago to the way we played last season was quite jarring.
Managers (good ones) will see the strengths of the players available to them and do their best to fully exploit their talents. Rafa is a great example for me. You look at his signing of Torres, a player who’s goal scoring record in Spain was far from eye opening. He was a big name but he certainly wasn’t an all round great player. Rafa saw that he was devastating when receiving a pass that he could run onto. He wasn’t great in some other ways that you would want from a more well rounded CF but in this one thing, he was probably unmatched and Rafa fully exploited this to great success.
Take this and look at the selection of players we have now in defence. In a hypothetical situation where Rafa is manager again tomorrow, do you think he definitely goes back to sitting deep, absorbing pressure etc etc?
With Fabinho, this is genuinely on the table but looking only at the defence, I think he’d see that they can play another way.
Just look at the quality of player Rafa had in his earlier phases and you’ll see that he didn’t have much in the way of options, if he wanted to win anything.
Now I know this is an incredibly long-winded comment that is ultimately, meaningless hypothesis. I share your concerns about going back to a less impressive form of football but I think in almost every case, this is going to happen regardless. The Pep Lijnders angle is something that I didn’t think of though and that could genuinely be a way to avoid this kind of issue.

27th August 2019 at 3:57 pm #46458Although at first I was unsure, I can only see ‘that seat’ saved for one Guy when Klopp goes in 2022: Steven Gerrard.
By then he’d be experienced and ready and by then, Liverpool would at least sewn up 1 PL Title and end their long draught.
If anyone recalls 2016/17 the season Chelsea won it, this was Klopp’s first season in charge and he signed Sadio. No Salah back in those days, but boy, did we see some proper gegen press.
Rightly we got criticised for no plan B, but now have a lot more maturity about us.
I’m desperate though for Lallana for example to show that sort of him that he had when he was at Southampton – he’s a brilliant little player.

27th August 2019 at 4:10 pm #46462AnonymousI’d love for Gerrard to show that he’s got the chops for it but we’ve no evidence of that as yet. 3 years is a long time, he’ll have to do exceptionally well of course. Maybe a league title with Rangers and a successful year with a PL side.
