Gosh, Wolves are so dire; and how many times have we played them?!
They were even in our Title race last season.
We still look boring and lagged at times, but I’m starting to see with our clean sheets. We are more thorough in what we do so we avoid making mistakes and stick to the same hymn sheet.
Tough tough game Sunday against a very inform Manchester United. The Acid Test for our season; last throw of the Dice.

3rd March 2023 at 4:29 pm #204934Firmino leaving end of season.
Is that Brendan’s last recruits?
29 million at the time under ‘Moneyball’. I was admittedly one to have criticized the signing and his ability as well as false number 9 etc. Justified likely at the time, but for 8 years of service and his professionalism more than anything is a standout.
Definitely a lifetime place for Bobby in the Anfield family.

3rd March 2023 at 4:45 pm #204935One of my favourite players mate but time to go. We have 5 forward players for 3 positions. Absolute hero to the people. Unreal player when on form . Delight to watch

3rd March 2023 at 4:49 pm #204936Really sad to see him go, but there’s no room for sentiment, something Klopp actually gets a lot of stick for.
Will wish him all the very best, wherever he ends up.

3rd March 2023 at 5:43 pm #204937All true Sean and good things have to come to an end. What a front 3 at the time.
All true D/H. Klopp needs to start rebuilding and not be afraid to pluck out big names if it means moving them on and generating funds for fresh faces.

4th March 2023 at 7:57 am #204938Think Rodgers played him on the left wing at first?!
A great player, one that I think is underrated and misunderstood by many who didn´t watch him like Liverpool fans. Things like he needs to score more, Liverpool would be a better team with a 30 goal a season guy there etc, without realising we had a 30 goal a season guy on the right wing and one of the main reasons he scored so many was Firmino.
In his prime a couple of seasons ago he was simply a joy to watch. High level of skill, work rate and team work combined.
Hope he goes to a team that plays in the CL so we have a chance to meet him (big if we get into the CL!).

4th March 2023 at 9:08 am #204939Three ps, if you think back at the time, our main star striker had left and we couldn’t keep him in Luis Suarez. 14/15 was a season of trying to modify the squad.
Rodgers was good at developing players, but not necessarily the right buys in relation to what the team really needed, i.e. a goal scorer.
I vehemently in person resented the notion of ‘false number 9’. What is it? You’re either brought in to score goals or you are a provider and supplementary. Take Beardsley and Barnes in the 80s for example; though we still needed ultimately Ian Rush.
We didn’t have a Center forward. Klopps Model and redesign was a front 3 and Firmino became part of that and reinvented which suited his style of play and what the team needed and benefitted from.

4th March 2023 at 12:12 pm #204944Personally couldn’t care less if our right sided attacker is our main goal threat as opposed to a no 9, or our right back is the chief playmaker as opposed to a midfielder. Is all about the team. Why I rolled my eyes at comments like we need more goals or creativity from midfield when we were blowing every team away already.

6th March 2023 at 9:44 am #205083Never experienced anything like this in 38 years of supporting this club. Wow. Everything just clicked yesterday.
Our next home match though isn’t till we meet the league leaders next month. By then we should have our nearly all our players back from injury.
3 away matches in succession in the PL to Bournemouth, Man City and Chelsea. Nothing easy here. Plus of course, there’s a small matter of Real Madrid.
Can’t get carried away, but certainly a springboard we can use to push on.

6th March 2023 at 9:53 am #205086Who had concerns about the midfield before yesterday’s game? I know Nil did he questioned Elliot. Here’s a crazy stat for you:
Henderson, Fabinho and Elliot have started 5 games together this season and all five have been won with a goal ration of 28-2.

6th March 2023 at 10:28 am #205090Threeps, indeed, and it further adds to the debate about Thiago, who although he may seem to make the team better, I think he can be too loose in possession, and that can really harm us at times.

6th March 2023 at 10:59 am #205091Individually Thiago has been our best midfielder this season, but he’s not been part of the best midfield combination.
I go on about it a fair bit but the team system is far more important than individuals and if it means dropping or axing Thiago for the greater benefit of the team then so be it.
It could be that Thiago is better suited to facing low block teams when we need to move the ball quickly from side to side. Horses for courses.

6th March 2023 at 1:50 pm #205096The midfield on the counter at times was still overran. We need somebody fresh with strength and someone that will track back. Fabinho probably had one of his better if not his best game y’day. The guy is getting on a bit. Harvey is just inexperienced and not sure of his best fit albeit in a different playing system like 4-4-2.
We need to reinvest in the midfield but that means a firm decision to be made on our existing individuals like Naby, Ox, Curtis Jones.
3ps, that’s a key point I agree on being able to be bold and think more about the team than the individual.

6th March 2023 at 5:50 pm #205109Whilst the midfield and defence have obviously had their problems this season and still needs addressing, if our attack clicks and is fluid, that’s ultimately what gets us going as it keeps the opposition at bay and takes the pressure off the midfield and defence. I still maintain that bad blip 2 seasons ago in the winter was more down to the poor form of the attack rather than the defence/midfield.

8th March 2023 at 11:29 am #205208I mentioned on Monday, about the up and coming games and this is why Sunday’s extra ordinary triumph remains me to the ground. The hopeful news is that by the time we face Man City, we shall have both Diaz and Tiago back.
Let’s be honest though by our standards, our away form has been woeful.
Sunday came as a shock surprise. The reason being because of our drab performances and stalemates of 0-0s. Adding to this Saturdays that have been spoiled for us many at the hands of Wolves and Brighton.
Real Madrid was the cherry on the cake. By no means I feel negative; far from it, but a reality ‘stock take’ of our journey, so sleeves rolling and socks up it shall be.

30th March 2023 at 11:15 am #205693Time to face up to our responsibilities and get behind the team win lose or draw.
It’s been at times soul destruction and painful; but equally, it’s depressing and lonely when there isn’t any Liverpool, in action competing and fighting for league positions trophies etc. What do we have left to play for? Pride and getting the team back in shape.
Diaz should be ready for sat but Thiago is a problem and has been. Time to sell him and Naby in the summer. We need a clear out and a no nonsense one.
I think for Saturday, for should go for 2 Central Midfields placing Fabinho and Gakpo together and 3 at the top with Salah, Diaz and Firmino followed by Nunez as the sole striker.
Alisson
Milner Konate Van Dijk Robertson
Fabinho Gakpo
Salah Firmino Diaz
Nunez

30th March 2023 at 5:14 pm #205694Nil you have one (out of form) midfielder in that team. Not sure that is thr best way to combat our midfield issue to be honest! And away at City?
Straight from thr Ossi Ardillas book of how not to set a team up 😀
