Ah mak don’t over react mate. Koop be here for at least another two seasons. We shouldn’t even be competing with city but we are in most comps. It’s a really bad defeat but we move on. I’m just hoping it’s not the start of a slump for us as that was dreadful last night. So slow in everything we did

29th December 2021 at 12:53 pm #192361The one criticism I have of Jurgen is christmas scheduling and how he deals with this. At much as last night angers me, we’ve been down this road before – remember chillwell and my own reaction on here afterwards? Then that 0-0 draw at Everton. Heaven knows how we pushed City all the way to the point where they were 1 nil down at the Amex. If we finish runners up giving it our all, I’d be proud.
I know it’s our Holy Grail, but there are other trophies available to win. I’d be well chuffed winning for example the League Cup and The FA Cup. The fans would get to go to 2 finals and more trophies in our Cabinet.
Anybody recognize a bit of de-ja-vu in the first half with the ball played over the job and Milner just missing the header? The same type of ball 2 years ago saw Firmino found the net. Last night nothing was going to happen for us. Apparently, Maddison put Salah off yesterday before his run up to the spot-kick.
Why is it though that we play Leicester around Xmas time? Isn’t that suspicious? Every year. Couldn’t it not be some other time?

29th December 2021 at 12:57 pm #192363Klopp should stop moaning nil mate.
We play much better when it’s game after game etc. I was disappointed Leeds game was called off. More rest we have the more it affects us
Fixtures are the fixtures. We should be winning last night all day long but there is no one to blame but ourselves. We just didn’t turn up and deserved to lose.

29th December 2021 at 1:15 pm #192364I never thought we’d be a particularly robust side under Klopp. We seem to need too many things to be right for us to perform. To this day, I’m still puzzled about what happened last season – in those 4 straight defeats we still had the front 3 playing, we still had a recognised midfield – we just had a bit of a makeshift defence. I think there was more of a confidence issue there. We do seem to miss a real galvaniser in the team – somebody to grab the game by the scruff of the neck if things aren’t happening. It all just seems to be a load of cogs in a machine, that when on a run of form, things go well. But disturb that with either a few changes or the timing of our games, and we suddenly look out of sorts very quickly.

29th December 2021 at 1:26 pm #192365Mane is out of form Mikus. Minamino would have been perfect as an inset. Origi injured, but this is where we’re still short of quality or we’re not getting the run of luck with injuries.
Some of the comments I’ve read elsewhere are brutal towards our players – Mane.
He doesn’t deserve that. He’s give us nearly 6 years and he can’t always be expected to perform at the highest level. We need backing from FSG and be prepared to bring in new players.

29th December 2021 at 1:41 pm #192366The problem with Mane is that he’s not really a striker. He’s a winger who exceeds expectations with the goals he scores. So when he goes through a more barren spell, the pressure increases on him, perhaps unfairly. Minamino doesn’t really have the attributes to be a like for like change for Mane. He’s more of a box player imo. And Klopp won’t change the system just for Minamino. In some ways I think we’re the victim of our rigid 433 system.

29th December 2021 at 1:42 pm #192367Mane goes on these little runs without goals. He’s still a real threat but he can play so much better.
He’s been an absolutely astounding player for us. Klopp has turned him into an unbelievable player but he can do more and be more clinical

29th December 2021 at 1:56 pm #192368Not much wrong with Liverpool offensively joint top scorers in the PL with City on 50 goals confirms that.
Last night was just one of those days and Liverpool for whatever reason weren’t firing on all cylinders but had Salah scored the penalty it would imo have been a completely different game and a win for Liverpool.
3 from 4 of a front 3 of Salah, Firmino, Jota and Mane is as good as anyone’s and better than most.

29th December 2021 at 1:57 pm #192369Yeah, some elsewhere have reacted which I get but should support Mane when he’s going through a rough patch.
This is why I don’t particularly like the 3 system. The only out of and central striker is Jota and if anything he was off par last night. Salah was essentially timid after the penalty miss.
The mentions of Taki and Origi essentially was about cover and offering that alternative outlet.
Nobody wanted to grab the game by the scruff of the neck. Fabinho, Milner, Keita; what did they offer? It’s all Trent and one dimensional and the opportunities we did have were foiled or squandered.
Matip left feeling frustrated. Van Dijk has lost half a yard and needs communication and support from Alisson. He should have had his near post covered really.

29th December 2021 at 2:00 pm #192371Yes, but not as robust as City Nine. City can make changes seamlessly and still deliver comfortably. We just can’t. If the bar wasn’t so high with the competition with City, we’d just shrug our shoulders and could afford to take a defeat. But up against City you have to be perfect.

29th December 2021 at 2:04 pm #192373Nil, that is indeed where the fingers should be pointed last night. Rather than being frustrated at Mane, where were the other players? Could they not make things happen or score goals?

29th December 2021 at 2:05 pm #192374Mikus, the depth and quality of the City squad does set them apart but one to eleven when everyone is fit and on their game Liverpool are a match for anyone.

29th December 2021 at 2:11 pm #192376Nil, Matip arguably offers more creativity than our midfield.

29th December 2021 at 2:17 pm #192377Guys, any of you notice from the first half a passage of play in our own half where it was deep inside our own half with Tsimikas and he was trying to get the ball moving forward with an intent to switch to the opposite side but wanting help from other players. On each occasion involving Henderson and Fabinho, they passed the ball back to him. There was another player involved I think too.
I thought that was too much to expect and too much weight to rest on such young shoulders. Our midfielders aren’t driving any force or threat. Tsimikas is not Robertson and we should rely on our fullbacks. Midfield were woeful yesterday and for me to blame aside our missed chances.

Not sure about the baseball cap and contacts

Dunno about Assists though, but all in all, I bet Man City’s Midfielders have more tha us, but then they don’t have Mo Salah.

29th December 2021 at 9:13 pm #192394AnonymousI don’t think Im over-reacting Sean. He hasnt been backed at all recently. We definitely should be competing with City. We walked the PL and they were there that season. No matter how good they weer that year, we’d still have won.
The team hasnt been refreshed enough, especially considering player ages. The owners love that they have a manager that will carry them to relative success, without spending.
PL over already is unacceptable.

29th December 2021 at 9:19 pm #192396Mak, Hope you’re ok mate.
On the evidence of both sets of matches I’ve seen so far tonight, I’m livid we didn’t get our job done, because in my eyes, they’re not all that.
