I can’t believe how poor they’ve become. The void of Calvert-Lewin has upset their dynamics but even so with Rondon and Townsend, they’ve declined than moved forward.
Loads of space yesterday, especially on Salah’s goal. Don’t really care about them though, happy to have beaten them comprehensively on their own patch just for once!

4th December 2021 at 5:10 pm #190650AnonymousAre you starting to believe yet, Sean?
We were looking like we didn’t quite have it but fought to the very end. That’s the Liverpool that won the PL 2 years ago.
Obviously we should have been better. On another day we’d have scored more and it’d have been less anxious but the key is to have the mentality to never give up. We definitely have the quality. I think that starting 11 is arguably the best in the PL. Depth with injuries will always be an issue of course, where I think our rivals don’t struggle in the same way there.
We are good enough to win the PL though, I really think so.

4th December 2021 at 6:42 pm #190670Concur with that Sean mate – feel really happy earning all 3 points today and what it’s given us in terms of the league table.
Maybe Brighton and West ham can be brushed aside now. We are still risky though with the high line.

4th December 2021 at 11:29 pm #190706Nil have a think what would happen to our press and attack play if we didn’t play a high line. It actually worked well today.
Thiago has been great the last few games. Always knows what’s around him and quick to move it on or switch direction.

5th December 2021 at 12:32 pm #190714Threeps, Its something me and you have discussed frequently mate but it worked brilliantly today. To get that to work perfectly takes some organisation and for everyone to be in synch. We looked solid today. The line from set plays was perfect as well. Itβs a very brave tactic. When it works well itβs great, like in our title winning season. Hopefully it continues to like yesterday as it was perfect

5th December 2021 at 12:54 pm #190716The linesman are delaying the flag as a rule change. Now that’s the scare and uncertainty individual defenders have to deal with. Do they run back, do they stay where they are. Matip was raging in one incident.
It’s as if they’re trying to cut out one area of the pitch by closing in. This has something to do with the blueprint of pressing. This is all well and good in theory, but we must be careful not to get caught out on the counter. Sorry if this reads as being cautious and negative, but just something to think about.

5th December 2021 at 1:11 pm #190717AnonymousSean, just had a giggle at your question mark after saying Thiago has been brilliant lately. It reminded me of Anchorman “I’m Ron Burgundy??”
A typo I assume and ya, Thiago has been sensational lately. I think our midfield in general is looking very well defined. You wouldnt say they are samey or anything. Some of Hendos passing this season has been excellent also. There was even a small moment in yesterdays game where Fabinho faked a shot then laid it off. It drew a player on him and took him out of the game.
Thiago has now become what we always dreamt he would, when we first announced the singing. He’s a bit of a revelation. He took time to settled into the PL but he’s arrived now and I think he’s one of the best players in the PL ATM. He’s probably our 2nd best player over recent games and yes, MOTM there yesterday IMO.
I think Klopp has a job ahead of him though because he’s going to have to find time to rest all 3. We’ve got to try and keep them in good shape. I feel the drop off in quality is maybe too much. Had we Elloitt still, I’d feel way better about it and Milner, is he still injured?
It’s kinda good that this is our only concern about midfield now though. It’s still a very significant one though.
Yes, Threeps. Good man on the high line discussion. I think we’ve got to become more conscious of the benefits and then we’ll stop lamenting about it when we concede. All tactics have weaknesses. When played to a very high level though you can negate them. As someone said above, we were employing it yesterday, like we did 2 years ago. The team are gelling. we’ve managed to play most of the same players for a while now and we’re reaping the benefits.
It was absolutely massive that we got all 3 points when West Ham beat Chelsea. This will drive the lads on in training, they’ll be absolutely buzzing and Jota won’t feel too bad about himself π

5th December 2021 at 1:13 pm #190718In most games it gives the opposition at least one golden chance nil but all the top teams play this week, I just think we are that extra bit higher then most teams. One pass can take us out but as threeps had said before with different tactics who knows how many chances we would concede. Itβs working better now as one goal conceded in 4.
I thought it worked perfectly yesterday

5th December 2021 at 1:14 pm #190719AnonymousBTW Origi has looked very good in the few times we’ve got to see him this season. He’s back in Clutch mode. We should utilize him more now that we know he’s back to Newcastle, Everton, Barca Origi.
I tell you what, this goal will make sure people are thinking hopefully when he comes on, which is a nice change.
Even before he scored, you could see his hunger and almost comfort in the position was there. I hope Klopp knows to never ever play him out wide again.

5th December 2021 at 1:23 pm #190720AnonymousSean, it’s worth thinking of the fewer chances we would create for ourselves though, if we dropped deeper. We have the perfect backline and keeper to play the high line. It gives us the option to squeeze them high up the pitch and we’d be foolish to not try and maximise this, given the incredible talent. Klopp didnt just sign Alisson because he is good at saving shots, he always wanted this.
I remember doubting if Klopp would ever get our defence sorted. I genuinely doubted it and this was after he had us playing some good attacking football but he came through in epic fashion and it’s starting to click again I think. Just a few games now though where we’ve been really improving, so I wont jump the gun and say we’re all the way there but we’re making huge strides now defensively.

5th December 2021 at 2:18 pm #190727Itβs ultimately a question of how consistently you can line up. That period last season where the defence and midfield were changing and players were being used out of position is ultimately what did for us.

5th December 2021 at 2:33 pm #190731Sean @ 1:13 agree mate fully.
I recognize the benefit moving higher up. The build up to the goal epitomize outwit Wolves resolute defending. They were caught out because they just didn’t have thinking time. That’s the way to break teams down. Passing the ball side by side in trying to pull opposition defenders out won’t always work.
Mak agree mate re every tactic and their weakness. Sometimes, we just got to take the plunge and let it be. It paid off big-style with huge 3 points.
I think Villa could be difficult at Anfield next Saturday. Let’s hope it’s another win.

5th December 2021 at 2:53 pm #190736AnonymousIt’ll be good for the team to know that if they have an off day in front of goal, there will always be someone else who can rescue it.
Can’t wait to see the welcome that Gerrard gets. Then of course, I hope we get the 3 points, regardless. I’ll quietly go back to supporting his career then π

6th December 2021 at 7:58 am #190761Ye mak, itβs a good point about our attack creating etc. Saturday really was a big result as I really thought we would never score after jotas result. We didnβt concede one chance either. Wolves set out for a draw. It was like playing a European team with the amount of times they hit the deck. Huge win and we just need to keep going

6th December 2021 at 6:19 pm #190771Such an important win for us on Saturday. Divvy is a truly remarkable character. So many times over the past few years I, and most of the rest of the ground, have groaned and moaned at his apparent lack of fight, desire, and, let’s face it, talent. But every time, he pops up with a vital goal, and boy, are they vital! Barcelona x 2, Champions League Final (yes, Chucky, your mob π€£π€£), Everton, Newcastle etc etc etc. Looking forward to the day I can take my grandkids to see his statue! π€£π€£
