16th November 2021 at 1:18 pm #1890286-4-lost 1 could have been a better statistic and perhaps are kicking ourselves for not capitalizing when our nearest have dropped points.
We’re a little off the pace, but it’s 4 points.
We’ve faced tough opposition let’s be honest in the majority in batch of games played so far. That includes West Ham. Brentford were on a bit of a purple patch early doors at the time of us facing them.
City and Man City essentially were draw-bound. Brighton was the kick in the nuts and one we squandered.
Opposition Teams in quality in our Prem are better than we estimate them for.
18-2 lost 1 to get up to that level (Pep :-)) essentially about being outstanding at the back of the house for which I believe right now is where Chelsea are and are conceding fewer goals than the rest.

16th November 2021 at 3:03 pm #189031Sean/Nil…the only people who write Liverpool off are Liverpool fans!!!!! Most fans from most clubs would not even think about it and I am one of them

16th November 2021 at 4:00 pm #189033We need on the pitch the basics of self leadership, organization and vocal communication. I can only go by Television pictures, but whether it’s home or away, we’re getting caught out by basic errors.
The high-line is definitely a problem, but what’s been evident is being caught napping and not doing the basics. That’s laziness and leaving it for somebody else.
It is to a degree some form of over-confidence and casual behaviour or failing that, some form of fear that’s crept in from last season which in some instances, we’re failing to shake off.

16th November 2021 at 4:46 pm #189034Nil, it’s not surprising after having that period of success, some of the hunger isn’t quite there and many players have been elevated on to pedestals. It’s partly why you need to refresh the squad like City have done, to keep players on their toes.

16th November 2021 at 5:02 pm #189035Mikus, I completely agree.
I’m sure the point has been raised and made to FSG. Milner for example will need replacing. We will soon reach the point of needing to modify the team. Not necessarily rebuild from the beginning, but add vital new pieces.
We’ve lost a little bit of aggression that’s needed and fear when at the helm
Sean was right earlier citing last season. Records at Anfield broke for the wrong reasons and we’re having to try and rebuild that fortress.
It’s just being more disciplined and tighter so that we can close off games which Chelsea have proven to be so far the better.

17th November 2021 at 10:32 am #189044Mikus who exactly would you refresh, to keep the team on their toes as you mentioned on the other site. And how exactly have City done this? Most of their core players stick with them until retirement or just before. Aguero, Kompany, Silva, Fernandinho…

17th November 2021 at 11:32 am #189045Threeps, I wouldn’t necessarily throw anybody out of the squad. But I think it’s important for any team to bring in new competition to keep everything fresh and hence help concentrate their minds to keep their focus. And we are also seeing frequent injuries. I accept there are other factors causing us issues as others have flagged up.

17th November 2021 at 12:04 pm #189046We fans always want new players not ever that easy. I can imagine a bit of a shake up in the summer with the likes of origi, Ox and minamino moving on. Hopefully clubs will have more money this year and therfore be a more active transfer market. Can see Newcastle buying some overpriced and obsolete players that clubs want rid of and that could start things moving for everyone else.
But replacing or not replacing the likes of the 3 I mentioned is not the reason we have made a few errors of late (utd game wasn’t that long ago so I won’t say we are I playing bad). I think it’s a combination of slightly altered tactics and players not adapting or making little mistakes that is the cause. Injuries haven’t helped as some players need a good run to get back up to speed and they are not getting it and we lack continuity in the team selection.

17th November 2021 at 3:24 pm #189049Threeps..I think you are underestimating Newcastle. I think they will buy, initially, players to survive, secondly, they are not fools either and I do rate Howe to judge sensibly, however, time will tell. Progress or not will then depend on next season assuming they survive. I also think Liverpools potential problem has been highlighted but they have a good manager and still a more than capable core of players. They do need succession planning like City have just started and maybe they have, we just do not know yet.

17th November 2021 at 4:12 pm #189051Brian, Howe at Bournemouth was buying Lidl type players now he has the resources to buy Harrods type players however in the short term getting the players in that Newcastle really want to buy in won’t be easy ultimately I don’t think identifying and buying players will just be down to Howe as I suspect Newcastle in the short to medium term will also appoint an experienced Director of Football.
Ultimately whether we like it or not Newcastle given their resources will ultimately get it right and will eventually become a force albeit that won’t happen overnight.

17th November 2021 at 5:38 pm #189055I was just following your post and Brian’s post threeps on Eddie Howe and you originally bought up Newcastle. Nothing wrong with that even if it’s on the Liverpool thread as Newcastle will impact on everyone including Liverpool.

17th November 2021 at 8:03 pm #189057No worries Brian, it was in context to Liverpools situation, NUFC start buying players and so it can have a chain effect. It obviously applies to everyone that I think next year most teams will be more active. As you may know, there are one or two liverpool fans not exactly happy with this seasons transfer activity!

17th November 2021 at 8:44 pm #189058Generally something positive to take from encouragement of players potentially to be back from recovery of their Injuries.
The Newer ones are on Robbo and Curtis Jones; No Timescale outlined, Bar these, it’s Harvey Elliot.

Disciplined. I understand it, but we should be ambitious against Circumstance and Change of Fortunes.
Let’s be honest; a Price ultimately is paid by us to FSG.
