Threeps, yes we did miss Fabinho desperately yesterday. He has played most of our games so far, yet we have problems in concedign chances, so I dont think he’s 100% of it. I suppose, the way I stated it was very much like it was 100% Gini π Let’s just write that off to me being a bit annoyed about what Im seeing and what happened with him.
As for Gini never taking the game by the scruff of the neck, sure he didnt do that but that isnt the type of player that stops you conceding chances either. I think we’ll have to agree to disagree about him going missing in games before last season. I think he was one of our most consistent players.
As for Fabinho’s importance. I had a notion it was yourself that didnt really rate him but I am clearly mistaken. I wouldn’t say he’s our most important player, with Salah, Van Dijk, Trent and Alisson ahead of him, in that order… but it’s just my opinion. I’m glad you rate him so highly though mate. I feel he doesn’t get enough praise if I’m honest.

31st October 2021 at 2:20 pm #187818Anonymous“Wr are now to the bare minimum in midfield and are in trouble if ox and Jones are starting together. Jones is still learning the game. Huge prospect”
I have not given up on the PL, I still think we’re good enough, on paper. In reality though, that midfield is too injury prone and 2 of the 3 that played the majority of the match yesterday, are not good enough to be playing any significant role in winning the PL. In Jones’ case, it’s a “yet”, in Ox’s case, it’s a ‘For Sale’ sign.
Next season we’ll likely have Elliott back in the fold (fingers crossed), so we’ve got to have consideration for that going forward. then, Milner will be too old for the PL. Hasn’t he been injured a few times this season now? To damage your hamstring even though you’re not playing a huge amount, is maybe a sign. So, we’ll have to sign at least 1 and I guess track how Elliott is doing.

31st October 2021 at 2:34 pm #187819AnonymousThreeps, as Sean picked out, our best midfield is Hendo, Thiago and Fabinho agreed? Well, those 3 would be reasonably expensive to improve upon but I’m sure it’s do-able, with interest in joining us pretty high, generally. I’m sure the club would be aware of quite a few quality players who’d love to join us. I don’t have such a list, as Im just a supporter but we’re LFC, we have Klopp and a rockstar Director of Sport. As you lads said, maybe we don’t have the money. The debate around this point is well worn, I’ll just say that I doubt we’re flat broke. I’m also not saying that we’re as rich as Bingo on TT thinks we are π
Could we afford a 60m player though? With fans having returned for a good while, maybe we could, come January. Of course, the uncertainty behind rising infection rates might curb thoughts of any spending.
We have our positions fairly set on this topic though,. Some of us think we need to buy a midfielder. I am of such a mind and I’ll say that we need to get a player who has a very decent injury record. I wouldn’t buy a DM though. I think Fabinho playing there with Hendo covering for him when he’s out is fine. I’d buy someone to compete with the other 2 for a place in the team. Whoever loses out will still get a hell of a lot of games, especially considering that Milner is maybe in his last season with us. Elliott will challenge for a place too over time and that is all good for me.

31st October 2021 at 3:39 pm #187828Mak, the reason I put Fabinho as our most important is because of the role he plays. When he is on his game he let’s everyone else play. If he has a bad game or his replacement does our cbs are badly exposed. It’s the way we play with a high line, attacking full backs and a full pitch press. The DM role played well with discipline is integral to the success of such a system and he is by far our best at it. Doesnt mean he is our best player, Salah, Alisson and VvD are obviously ahead of him.
Regarding money and having fans back, our finances are based on predicted earnings but that always lags a year behind. So for this year’s transfer budget it is based on the predicted earnings of last year which will be negative because of the pandemic. Other teams do things differently, but I believe this is the way we do it. Whether it’s the best way is a whole different topic mind.

31st October 2021 at 4:19 pm #187833Loris karius was released today. I didn’t even know he was on our books.
This is genuinely worth a look and shows to me with the way we run our transfers to a ‘T’.

31st October 2021 at 4:22 pm #187834I thought Hightown summed up perfectly on the other page why we allowed Brighton back in. Keita forced off and Hendo was on his own. Ox provided an assist which was good but offered nothing defensively – Jones essentially the same.
Although young, I think Nico Williams should be given a chance or maybe move Robertson up and play Kostas left-back.

No need to explain your reasons to me man, I agree with them. I just have the order a little different. He is a main player in the spine of our team, on this we agree. He’s definitely unsung, in comparison to the other big names.
“and he is by far our best at it.”
100% agree. It’s not even close. If you remember when he started getting his game for us, the other midfielders roles became almost clearer (IMO). We had better defined roles or something. That’s the best that I can put it with my poor memory. It was around this time that I started appreciating Hendo again (because I dont rate him as a DM, besides as cover).
As for how we handle our finances, you may well be right but I wouldn’t write off some kind of adaptation. Fingers crossed in my case because I think we need someone in January. If we can ship out Ox, then that will be a lot easier. The guy is useless.

3rd November 2021 at 10:08 pm #188216I’m processing the fact the we have Won the group – can’t believe it.
That takes a lot of weight in stress away from us given the time of the year and the crucial games coming up. Do we play a more weakened team in the champs or would that be of a disservice to the rest of those competing teams?

4th November 2021 at 7:09 am #188221Nil, I’m pretty sure Klopp will play very strong but rotated teams for the last two, based on who needs game time and who needs a rest. Can see TAA having a day off with Nico replacing him for example, and maybe Gordon and Morton either starting or coming off the bench. Henderson has played a lot recently it seems too. We still have senior players like Minamino, Origi, Gomez, Tsimkas, Konate who could all do with game time.

4th November 2021 at 7:34 am #188222Ye exactly threeps chum. Good to see a good few players get minutes last night. If we had of got the 3rd with those flurry of chances around 50 mins; I think we would have battered them
Brilliant we won the so called group of death with two games to spare.

4th November 2021 at 7:45 am #188224One of the most satisfying wins given how they behave. Thing is they have some very good technical players but still they kick out and then roll about trying to get our players in trouble. Hope they fail to qualify.

4th November 2021 at 10:40 am #188233three ps, yeah that’s what I was thinking. We can mix it up using the depth of our squad. Origi can play, and Minamino. The last 2 games shouldn’t really trouble us.
We need to get the right balance and make sure we progress in the Carabao Cup and start picking up points in the league.

5th November 2021 at 9:11 pm #188344AnonymousAh ya, having 2 free games will be incredible. It’ll be a big relief for us considering Firmino’s injury, especially. Then there is of course midfield, which will need a break.
Firmino is out for 6 week or so? Then we have Sadio and Salah going away for AFCON, so hope he’s back for that. These 2 free games give us a chance to get Minamino some game time. I haven’t totally given up on him, as he’s definitely got something about him. Whether he has the al-round game now is another story but 2 CL starts is what I recommend. We could bring Gordan into things for those 2 games and even give the entire back 5 a rest.
Kelleher
Jones – Konate – Jones – TsimikasThey could really use the game time. I’d say especially Kelleher, as he’s a raw talent. A few more big games will do him the world of good, especially if he needs to come in suddenly, he’ll already have them under his belt this season.
This really is such an amazing opportunity but there’s a part of me that thinks Klopp might not see it that way and it does worry me. You know how he loves to stick with as many players as he can, well he’s got to fight that urge and give the fringe players a little chance to impress and develop.
I also hope AM go out now. I dont think it’s very likely but it’s possible. Fingers crossed.

7th November 2021 at 6:36 pm #188604A missed opportunity today. Encouraged when we pulled a goal back so from that point of view, we’ve got the fight in us. We’re building a rod for our own back conceding those goals although to be fair, they are a little uncharacteristic, but legitimate and they all count.
Inter break so some time out and a chance to regroup and be ready for our home game versus Arsenal.

7th November 2021 at 9:25 pm #188626We have to ultimately take responsibility for our own short comings. It’s not the defeat, but the manner of it. Perhaps we were shaken and this is from the angle of the unexpected. I mean Van Dijk or another defender should have had some balls really to stand up to that threat imposed on Alisson on his goal line. That’s not even Sunday League Football.
There’s a form of Intimidation that’s going to come with the territory of some opposition teams – a fact of life. How do we deal with that? We have to grow thick skin, be aggressive and not to be afraid ‘every now and then’ to be VOCAL! Since when were we in the Library?!
Fornals has Heart. So Does Antonio. Certainly from the Big Teams up to now I feel they’ve not been given as such the credence or the Respect deserved in spite of their adaptation of gameplan against various opposition teams, like it or not.
Seismic in context of the long-term effect of success, Klopp needs to recognize, acknowledge, accept and learn. Milner can’t plaster Gini’s void. Naby can but he was missed today. Tiago only just returning, but could Konate have filled in as the extra man?
I feel Klopp’s mindset is adjusted a little towards thinking the attack will outweigh the defense and essentially ‘take care of everything’. We cannot rely on one dimension and we need game management accompanying our 4-3-3 if that will be insisted.
Aggression Aggression Aggression. Thinking we needed like a Fabian Delph type of player today or somebody in that midfield simply with Bite and somebody that would also have spurned on creativity.
