Ya Nil, Thiago can do what we are missing from Gni, mostly anyway. It’s his damn fitness though. We need a player that we can actually depend on and in midfield, I think our best option there is Hendo, which is crazy cause he has that heel issue all the time.
Threeps, most of what you said is jusging Gini by last season and I wouldn’t argue any of it. I was very disappointed and lost faith in him TBH, based on his performances last season but he was disillusioned then. we need our best players to stand up? Ya but we need to reward the players who won us the CL and PL titles. He was left behind and he’s not the only one. Is Robertson getting paid real money yet? I havent looked in a while but he was on a pittance , given how good he is for us.
Im not saying we need to raise everyone’s salary but there are some anomalies there and can you blame Gini for feeling like he isnt valued,. when we’re happy to let him leave for free?
he was quick to become one of my favourite players, so while I hold my hand up about his last season, I think he was definitely much more important than FSG deemed him worthy and it’s biting us on the ass.
As for Jones, sure.. I dont think himself or Ox should be starting for us, especially together. I still think Ox is more useless, even though I have since seen the highlights. It was a nice assist for him but let’s be honest, he only did that because he was too far out to shoot. Im not even joking and this is what really pisses me off about him.

Lads, we’ll have to agree to disagree there. I very strongly disagree.

31st October 2021 at 7:23 am #187788Sean@10:18pm my mistake Sean apologies.
Personally I wouldn’t rule anyone in or out of winning the League currently and I would be amazed if Liverpool weren’t in the shake up for the title at the end of the season. Cheers 9’s

31st October 2021 at 7:44 am #187790Mak, Gini was a good player for us no questioning that. He was like the oil in an engine, he kept things moving in midfield and linked the team together superbly. But he was never one to take a game by the scruff of the neck and dominate, or roll his sleeves up and get stuck in a battle of attrition. There were many times even before last season that when the going got tough Gini went hiding. Hence why I don’t think we missed him yesterday.
One day we may find out the reasons Gini never signed an extension. The fact that he was all set to make his dream move to Barca then at the last minute change for the extra money in a less challenging league speaks volumes but I’m just speculating.
Yesterday we missed Fabinho. I’ve said it before that he is our most important player. More than VvD, more than Alisson and more than Salah. We could do with quality back up for him but as I’ve mentioned on that other forum it’s not easy. It’s hard to convince a player to be understudy no matter how much is mentioned about our injury prone players and most importantly we have next to nothing to spend.
Take the young lad from Monaco, Tchouameni linked with us in todays Echo. 21 years old, perfect age. Plays DM and is regarded as having great potential. But to join us he would be as a bench player. When you also consider teams like Juve are after him who might offer a first team place then we become less attractive. Then you consider we probably cannot afford the 40m odd asking price plus the no doubt very high agent and signing on fees.

31st October 2021 at 7:57 am #187792I am inclined to agree about Fabinho. I don’t know how Trossard found the spaces yesterday. We looked vulnerable at the best of times. Hopefully these guys like Milner get back to full recovery and be ready.

31st October 2021 at 8:36 am #187793The issue is no matter who is playing, teans are creating far too many chances againest us and we are not managing games well. We wonβt win the league if that continues but my expectations were never the league

31st October 2021 at 8:40 am #187794But threeps people said the same about signing someone to compete with the front 3. We signed jota and itβs worked perfectly. We have so many injuries in midfield every season that he would get games. Money now thatβs a different topic as seemingly we canβt afford salahs contract ??
Wr are now to the bare minimum in midfield and are in trouble if ox and Jones are starting together. Jones is still learning the game. Huge prospect

31st October 2021 at 9:05 am #187795As it stands, Milner-Keita-Tiago-Fabinho all out.
Ox rarely tracks back and Jones is learning. Essentially why we struggle.
I don’t know if we can do something with Gomez and move Konate in as defensive midfield. Other than that, Jordan has to be disciplined as a sweeper in front of the back 4 and leave the others advanced. Ox unfortunately has been disappointing. Saw more from Lallana yesterday.

31st October 2021 at 9:39 am #187797Yes Jota has worked, but that is an exception not the norm. And he came in as cover for 3 positions hence a much increased chance of playing, so 3 out of 4. If we want another midfielder then it’s 3 out of what 9? So yeah when players are injured like now they will play but what happens when our injury get better? They might not even make the bench. You try finding a player good enough that is happy with that.
I’ve read many times about players rejecting Liverpool as their path would be blocked by world class players. You cannot sell a transfer to a good player saying you will get games because we are guessing we will have injuries. They want guaranteed playing time.
Not just Liverpool, its why Spurs have always struggled to get decent back up to Harry Kane. If you are good enough you want to be playing as much as possible.
I’ve argued so much about this it’s kinda boring me now. But without wanting to sound arrogant I’ve been right pretty much each time as we are still talking about the same situation after a few years now. If, as one particular poster on TT has said, it’s simple you just make them fight for the spot and whoever wins gets it then why haven’t we just bought all these players (when we had money)? Because that is not how it works.

31st October 2021 at 9:42 am #187798We certainly do need to find a way of controlling games better. The fragility does appear to be a consequence of finding our attacking mojo again, Klopp and Co need to find the balance and quickly. In Hindsight I’m thankful we didn’t lose yesterday, but it’s a game we really should have won, if that even makes sense.

31st October 2021 at 9:57 am #187799Until those players recover we may have to mix and match: Keep Henderson defensive. Drop Ox, bring Jota in as the extra midfielder with Mane and play Salah, Firmino, Taki Minamino at the Top.
We’ve got Athletico and then West Ham away before the International Break, so an Adaptation is imminent.

31st October 2021 at 10:46 am #187802It is boring but Iβm not sure how you have been proven right threeps mate? We had maybe our 6th and 8th choice midfielders and we were terrible in midfield. Of anything a lot of us said we would have multiple midfield injuries and we have.
Our best midfield is Hendo thisgo and fabhino. How many times have they played together in 14 months? Twice or three times? If you bring someone in who can compete who can improve us so they will play as we never have our full quota available so we canβt improve on ox, Jones and 35 Milner? We lost a player. He needed to be replaced. We signed thisgo. He doesnβt always play when fit???
But we know our midfielders are injury prone so we would knew this would happen. We lost a midfielder who was never injured yet we have another 5 who will get injured every season.
We are repeating ourselves mate. It is boring

31st October 2021 at 11:03 am #187805three p’s, you may have misunderstood. This is what I was trying to convey as a starting line up:
Allison
Trent – Konate – Van Dijk – Robertson
Jota – Henderson – Mane
Salah – Firmino – Minamino
Sorted! π

31st October 2021 at 11:10 am #187806Three p’s the subject has been exercised perhaps a little excessively because we all as fans are trying to find the best possible solution. We may not all agree which is fine.
There’s no right or wrong as such, but collectively I’m sure we can all recognize that game management is the issue of which the main strand is ball retention.
We looked joyful when we were 2 in front. In context, Brighton pulled one back with a stunner, and they grew more and more with confidence. We allowed them to play rather than stifle them. Players are not always tracking back and rather than reading the game were ball watching in huddles.

31st October 2021 at 11:21 am #187807Sean, proven right by the fact we haven’t bought all these midfielders not that there’s no issue.
Nil, no misunderstanding at all. You’ve picked one midfielder as a solution for our midfield issue. We’d score but probably lose 8-7 every match π€£

31st October 2021 at 1:10 pm #187813Nil trying to rekindle the Ossie Ardilas Spurs famous 5 attacking formation!
Sean obviously finances are playing a big part now. But Klopp has often said its difficult to get players of quality in that will improve the squad, even before the pandemic. There are players out there that can of course make us better but are they available, do they want the move etc? I don’t see the point of just adding players to the squad that are inferior to what we already have, it’s better that we manage better with what we already have until a player we really want becomes available.
