“Best thing about this season is, I am really enjoying watching us play again. Some really good attacking football and plenty of goals”
The odd time I’ll think of this and how Bingo lost interest when we started playing a more reserved style. I hope he’s watching us and hasn’t stayed away entirely.
As for the game today, although it was a shame to not get the 2 points at the end, to not lose to such an on form City is worth a lot. We weathered a very difficult first half and although everyone and their nan is saying that City didnt score because they didnt sign kane, well after us, they are the PL’s top scorers. So, they are doing just fine and we did so well (thank you Alisson TBH) to keep thme out until we got it together.
I made some remark in the match thread that Klopp really couldn’t do a lot at half time or something, well how wrong was I? We saw a more familiar Liverpool in the 2nd half and if we had won it, you wouldn’t hear many complaints. We’re quick to say “we should have had X goals” though and like Alisson was for us in the first half, Rodri was for them at the end of the game. Both a credit to their teams, laser focus. I mean, you wouldnt even say that Fabinho messed it up, Rodri was just insanely quick.
To be where we are though at this stage, is excellent.
Salah is on his way to the Ballon Dor. Pay him an exceptional salary.

4th October 2021 at 1:22 am #186149AnonymousThere’s one thing that we’ve got to face up to BTW. That is that we need a Tsimikas type player who can cover for the right. That or do what we can to get Tsimikas able to fit in there. Milner is a great servant but he’s just not up to covering that position anymore. They were focusing so much on him. I mean, he did what he could but we need someone to cover, so teams dont focus us down so hard there, I mean, anymore than they do with Trent π
Maybe Gomez should have started.

4th October 2021 at 10:16 am #186167Good points Mak.
They played Rodri as a defensive midfielder, but the way they were set out made them look top heavy in defensive. In the first half early stages, we started brightly, but they packed that area and you could see Bernardo Silva covering a lot of ground and being the link-man to supply Grealish and Foden.
Not to take as such credit away, but we made it easier for them because we didn’t have our players protecting our back line and Milner. How was Foden finding space? They were one touch pass at times playing the ball super quick to split open our defense.
Foden’s goal was from close range and well taken, but again, we’re conceding more goals within that 6 yard area, ala Brentford the week before and that’s costing us points.
Put aside the first half, we took the lead twice as with Brentford and we dropped points so this is something we need work on whether or not we’re missing somebody to cover Gini’s duties and for all the love in the world, I think we fall short with Henderson. It’s actually Milner that provides us that protection, but he of course played right-back.
We need Konate integrated and Gomez to move to right-back or even center-half to cover Matip once Trent is fit again.

7th October 2021 at 2:46 am #186226AnonymousYa, I’m kinda out of ideas as to what we need in midfield ATM. Fabinho is probably our only world class player in there who we can rely on. Thiago could be but he’s too injury prone for me, so I’m not counting him, until he gets a long spell in the side.
Who knows how this season could have gone, in terms of option development, had Elliott not been injured. he looks like he’s going to be a superstar but we’ll have to wait and see, hoping that he’s not been derailed by this. He’s good enough that I don’t expect us to go after anyone in January, not for that position anyway.
Going back to the RB situation. There is of course that young Northern Irish lad, who’s name evades me. Klopp seems to rate him very highly. perhaps he could be the backup prospect that Neco Williams isn’t.

10th October 2021 at 5:23 am #186332AnonymousI had a good laugh at the links between Barca and Klopp but see now that he’s spent the weekend there. Could be a co-incidence but would you holiday in the city where you’re being linked with a job at? Surely you’d instead go to another amazing location…
Well, he’s been here a long time and it seems that FSG’s ambition, or ability to invest in said ambition are not quite on a level with Klopp anymore. Whether he wants to leave or not, this appears to be the case and Edwards decision to leave is a strong supportive indicator.
Of course, a manager can go and listen to a proposal even if he has no intention of taking a job. I hope this is the case and that FSG are watching closely because I can’t imagine a LFC future without Klopp. He’ll pack up and leave some day regardless of how well things go but there’s no need to have that happen sooner than it has to be. FSG have got to find a way to back him in the next window. They have had some rather large spending spells but their net spend since they arrived is not high. meanwhile the value of the club has SKY-ROCKETED. A lot of that is down to clever business, the general rise in Football revenues (more specifically PL football). Mostly though, I think Klopp has been the keystone in this whole operation.
I don’t want to come off sounding like TimeToGoRodgers or whatever his name is because whilst we got insane money for Coutinho, FSG re-invested that money very very wisely. We wouldnt have Alisson, Van Dijk or Fabinho without that deal. Maybe we’d have 1 of them but that’s about it. It was however Klopp who got so much out of a not so well-rounded player like Coutinho, in order for such a fee to be achieved. The rest of the credit goes to Edwards, of course…
Life would be so tough for us without those 2. We’re already headed to be without 1, Klopp going would be absolutely heart-breaking. I can’t see another manager filling his boots. I think we’d be facing a post-Ferguson style situation. Of course, they handled it exceptionally poorly, with a non-football Director making idiotic decision after decision. I’d expect better from us but how much better? How many of our squad would also want a new project in such a scenario?
Reading this, you might be inclined to think that I am 100% sure Klopp is leaving etc, that is definitely not the case and I stress that point. You’ll know that i love to talk about hypotheticals. Of course, Klopp has been with us 6 years now, with 7 being the standard cut off for him. I hope it’ll be later but sooner is possible, if he feels that FSG aren’t as hungry anymore.
On FSG, whatever happens, they have got to look at the incredible growth of their club. I feel they’ve been sitting on their hands since we won the PL. Covid is definitely a big factor and to try to invalidate it would be foolish. I however think they could have done better than this, without evidence to back it up. other clubs managed it. It doesnt matter now though, what matters is the summer coming, where there will be no excuses, especially considering the contract situation of Salah and the age of our squad.
Sorry for the long post, my sleeping pattern is upside down and I’m a bit bored π

10th October 2021 at 10:21 am #186343I remember I told nine we should get rid of salah if heβs looking for 400k but someone made a very good point. It would cost us millions abd millions to replace. Just pay him. He has been unreal and what an absolute joy to watch
Vardy hasnβt lost his pace and mo is as fit as a fiddle and he can just keep going. We need him tied down as at the moment, heβs irreplaceable

10th October 2021 at 10:30 am #186344Difficult call for the owners Sean without Liverpool stumbled over a rising star it would take circa Β£100m plus to replace Salah but Β£400k pw would set a new high and others would expect to see their wages raised pro rata.
I think there will need to be a compromise to get it done what you don’t want to do is let it rumble on in to the final year of Salah’s contract and potentially lose him for nothing.

10th October 2021 at 11:15 am #186345Mak, yeah that was 6 years on Friday mate (I think).
I don’t know anything about those reports but saw something on Twitter that made me smile about “favourite Klopp moment” – has to be for me the 2 Adam Lallana goals:
one at Carrow Road where Klopp’s glasses are damaged in the melee’ and the other when he scores against Man City, long ranger. Klopp’s surprised smile.
I just love the journey overall and certain players he signed still with us. He has truly shaped us π

We canβt let it wind down like Winjildium.
I think heβs earned it. If others want to be paid that, they need to earn it
I do think the egos are that big in our team for players to moan about it but you never know
We just need to get it done

10th October 2021 at 12:48 pm #186349Mak, I think jurgen be gone by the end of his contract in 2024. It will be devastating and Iβve no doubt we will go backwards
Someone suggested he takes a years break and pep ljinders takes over which be perfect but really canβt see that happening

10th October 2021 at 2:51 pm #186350Anonymous2 awesome goals. The colour of the sky for the Utd game, gave it a kinda surreal element too, just me?
As for Salah, ya man, the others havent earned it and if they dont have match-clauses then tell them to F off, Salah is truly special. He’s working his way towards the Ballon dor after this one, with no other player in our squad capable of it, bar maybe Van Dijk.
PAY THE MAN WHATEVER THE F HE WANTS. I cant believe Im saying it, cause I’ve gone on about our pay structure before but there has got to be some room to find, for exceptions. We will not win the PL without Salah, that is a certainty.

10th October 2021 at 3:29 pm #186351It doesn’t sound like Klopp will go past the end of his contract Sean at least that’s what he’s said. He will be 57 when it ends I can’t see him continuing in Club football from there I suspect he’ll take a complete break for a year and then maybe take a less consuming international role. I can’t see him leaving for a year and then coming back to Liverpool 9 years is a long time at any Club.

10th October 2021 at 4:04 pm #186354Mak, yeah some sort of an exception can be made. That man had Cancello, Foden, Silva, Rodri and La Porte Surround him and he still comes up with something Sensational. He’s a Genius. We need to pin him down.

10th October 2021 at 6:04 pm #186356AnonymousNine, I dont see him staying at Liverpool beyond that but I’d lay a small amount of money that after a break of maybe a few months to max a year, that he’ll go back to club football. He has spoken about going to international football etc etc but he’s also spoken against it too. There isnt enough for him to do in international management and I think he’ll see 57 and think that he’s still the same guy as he was 10 years ago. he’ll be a bit older sure but he’ll still be be the Klopp who LOVES working every day.
Of course this is just my opinion and others have theirs. it doesnt really matter though, as he’ll hopefully be at Liverpool for a few more years. I just want FSG to make full use of this incredible blessing of a manager. They’ve got to invest in him building a younger team that is still effective. If we have to deal with building a whole new team AND Klopp being gone… we’ll be lucky not to be mid-table for years after.

10th October 2021 at 6:07 pm #186357Anonymous“Mak, yeah some sort of an exception can be made. ”
I hope they’ve planned ahead for this, when they were drawing up all the other contracts. Just dont allow salary-match clauses. If they avoided this then they have some chance of it not ruining our pay structure but I dont know enough about the situation to give more than a fleeting opinion on it. It’s more hope in my case. They will have known this was coming. you dont get caught out when it comes to salary demands.
Nine, I will try and have a look for it. a very special goal alright. I think it’ll do Salah well, as like Aguero, he’s under-appreciated by the awards bodies.

10th October 2021 at 6:53 pm #186360All very unpredictable Mak.
I wouldn’t completely write off Klopp staying he’s still got the rest of this season and then the next two seasons. I do sense he might be getting a bit frustrated with FSG though.
Lots of water to flow under the bridge yet imo which may ultimately re-enforce his commitment to leave in 2024 or indeed change his mind.
