“I still think we should have had some sort of a โmarqueeโ signing or a new player that could take us forward.”
Elliott is that new addition, for me. It remains to be seen if I’m right but my instincts are all saying so. I’m not saying he’ll start many games in the first half of the season but he’ll get chances to impress and I just feel that he’ll take them and from there on, get more and more time.

28th August 2021 at 7:40 pm #183880We incorporate an alternative dimension in the attack and extremely happy that Van Dijk and Fabinho too the initiative to test Mendy and both came close.
Can we have more of this Please!
We should have really nailed the second goal and the winner with our attack array, but too many fancy touches. I can see Klopp positioning Elliot; good quick feet and dribbling ability but lacked conviction.
I see more of a glass half full with this Tonight, so let’s take this going into the International break and be ready for Leeds.

29th August 2021 at 8:58 am #183902AnonymousI assume you all have read the opinions of the Chelsea lads in the match day thread. I have to ask lads, is it just me, in thinking that we were every bit as good as them, maybe even better, in the first half?
They are talking as if it should have been 2 -0 going into the 2nd half. Our chances could have led to goals and of course, our certain goal didn’t need a penalty to help it out. What’s your take on the first half? cause I remember a different story to those lads, seemingly.

29th August 2021 at 9:17 am #183904Mak, you always get what you deserve in a footy match, at the end of the day it was 1-1 at half time and 1-1 at the end and thatโs what both teams deserved. As for the handball/sending off, thatโs the way the law has been instructed to be interpreted, until that interpretation is changed thatโs how it will be, so weโll see what a pigs ear they make of it next season.
As for your view and 9โs view, we all wear different tinted glassesโฆโฆโฆPagan_____________________________

29th August 2021 at 9:45 am #183918Mak, in all honesty, I don’t visit their Website or any of the other fans sections. I rarely have the time of late and frankly, I don’t really don’t have the interest as they are my rivals.

29th August 2021 at 3:52 pm #183974AnonymousYa pagan, i just wanted to delve into it a bit but I think unless someone else comes up with other commentary, I’ve said everything I have to say on the matter now.
Looking forward to future games, you know that point where you’re far enough into a season to see roughly where teams are going. I can see both teams being up there or abouts.
Nil, each to their own. I myself like t take in other perspectives and also see how our rivals are doing. I stop short at watching other matches (I say this as I half watch the Spurs V Watford game). Im a fan of the PL though and a more competitive league, is a league worth more to the winner.
As I think Sean said (sorry if incorrect), this really really felt like an established team versus the up and comers. For me, that was less in what we saw on the field but more in terms of the media and fan discussion leading up to and after the match.

30th August 2021 at 3:24 pm #184101AnonymousEdwards leaving is devastating news. Its easy to take the players we now have for granted, since most have been here for years now but the man behind most of them wants out. How do you replace someone that good?
I’m wondering if maybe he had his heart set on a really brilliant signing or m2 and lost faith in FSG for not giving him any money to spend? If this were the case, or something along those lines, you ,could understand his frustration. Maybe he has another Salah to ready unearth and they just won’t give him the chance?
I’m not suggesting that this is the truth of the matter, just pure speculation but you have to admit, the timing of this announcement leads me to think that there could be something in this. Hopefully we’ll find out, or maybe he’ll force FSG’s hand and get what he might hypothetically want.
I hope he decides to stay, either way. We’ll be facing the tough task of replacing some of these superstars, over the next 1-2 seasons.

30th August 2021 at 3:31 pm #184102The only person I ever worry about leaving is klopp mak me aul chum.
Itโs been a decent start to the season.7 points is not a bad start. Iโm not to disappointed with Saturday as Chelsea are so good at the back that sometimes it suits them to sit in.
The sending off ruined the game but it was the right call
Thought vvd was excellent. Great atmosphere etc. Chelsea are going to be right up there so Iโll take the point.
Few games coming up now before we play city that we need to win.
Great to get key players tied down to long contracts. No interest in international football. Letโs see who gets injured for us over next two weeks as itโs inevitable

30th August 2021 at 3:56 pm #184103AnonymousI know what you mean Sean, losing Klopp would be far far worse but I do worry about losing Edwards. Klopp himself had to be convinced by about Salah. You never know what kind of clown we might get after him, signings rubbish like Stuart Downing etc…
I agree regards Chelsea. My only issue on the other thread was what was being said. The match was definitely ruined by the red but as you and Dermot Gallagher have said, it was the right call. Right calls don’t make for good matches though and both teams just have to accept the measly offering of 1 points apiece. Chelsea are a cracking team and the PL is better off for it. We’ve got to try and get back to our winning ways and as you say, we’ve a few “nice” games on paper. I put that in quotes because how often do these apparently easy fixtures turn to shite?
It’s going to be hell waiting for them. Hope you’re well Sean. I had an electrocardiogram this morning and was basically given a thumbs up, all good. time to start increasing the intensity of my exercise sessions.

31st August 2021 at 11:59 am #184132AnonymousNine, I couldnt tell you exactly what is going on with me. I spent a long time not looking after my health. It came back to haunt me pretty suddenly. Basically I was getting fatigued from everything, racing heart randomly, palpitations and other uncomfortable related stuff. I spent the last few months taking better care of myself but it’s not really having the desired effect.
But yesterday I got my heart checked, after my Doc sent me in. They will send the full result to my doctor but had a word with me right after and said everything looked ok. Said to keep doing what Im doing and agreed with me in saying maybe I should step up the intensity of the exercise. This is hopefully why I haven’t been getting the results I need. Gonna do a few weeks of higher intensity stuff and likely get through the other side of this.
Sorry for the TMI/essay
BACK TO FOOTBALL
As I said on the other page, I think offering Hendo a 4 year contract was a mistake. briefly, he’s no Milner (in terms of hardiness) and yet Milner was never offered a 4 year deal in his 30s. Milner is a bit of a burden on the club (FINANCIALLY ONLY). For what we get from him now, we are vastly over-paying. Im a massive fan of Milner and think he hasnt gotten enough credit over the years and although he’s still a very useful squad member, he’s paid like a starter and that’s a problem for me, especially int he days of FFP or whatever will follow it (different form, or revenue based salary cap etc).
As I also said on the other page, I cant see Hendo being a starter in more than 2 years time. I’ll be totally honest, I’d have been looking for a replacement for him in the first team now, with a mind to executing on that within 1 – 2 years. That would of course depend on who becomes available and also considering what we do with other positions, during this time.
Are there exceptions to offering short contracts only to players over 30? Ye2s but Hendo shouldn’t be one of them in my eyes. van Dijk might be one of them, Alisson too of course, Fabinho maybe but even then, 3 years, not 4. Perhaps Salah but it’s hard to judge how attackers will fair/adapt as they get older, maybe some others too but that will depend on how they are when the time comes.

31st August 2021 at 12:18 pm #184134Mak, the two most important things in life imo are your family and your health we all need to take care of both of them.
I really hope you continue to improve but don’t overdo the exercise. Take care. Cheers 9’s

About the football. Iโm really not sure how we are supposed to compete when we donโt spend. Everyone around us is getting stronger. We have a very good squad but we have to many injury prone players
We needed at least two players and we are getting none. Bobby is already out for a few weeks so if anyone else gets injured we turn to origi and Minamino. Klopp needed a to be supported. Few injuries and we are screwed and thatโs why I expect us to finish 4th

31st August 2021 at 8:41 pm #184160AnonymousYa Sean, I’ve written a lot more about it on the other page. I thought some of the lads were making some good points. To the point where I kinda got off the fence a bit.
As I said over on TT, Im more worried about next season rather than this. When our core players start to see the effects of age, we’re in serious trouble. In fact, I think that’ll be the end of us as a top team. You could argue that we’re already seeing it in some of the lads. Mane and Firmino need to get back to their old level, or we have to replace them next summer. They have to get there this season, or we wont win the PL. I still have faith that they will. firmino was quite good there against chelsea. mane was another story though.
As for needing a forward, we do have someone before we need origi or Minamino. There’s always Elliott. He’s better than them already. Minamino may come good but origi shouldnt be at the club anymore . Of course there is Ox also but you know what I think of him. Klopp kinda rates him though.
The injury prone players is where our season is most at risk and we should be tackling this. Klopp likes small squads.. well, sign players who stay fit then.
anyway, although we can be down about FSG’s lack of ambition, I’ve full faith in Klopp, mistakes and all. We havent needed Konate yet and Elliott is essentially a new signing. Crooked argument but the lad is getting minutes, so…
