Rarely agree with what he says but stand by his right to say it.
While on the clock for BBC he is just a sports presenter and a good one I think.

10th March 2023 at 6:23 pm #205250Just cut below from BBC, shame they can’t show some backbone and maintain that position.
In 2016, he was criticised for some tweets about child migrants. The BBC responded by saying: “Gary is a freelance broadcaster and this is a personal Twitter account.”

10th March 2023 at 7:21 pm #205251The impartiality argument holds no water. He openly spoke out against Corbyn, didnt seem to be an issue then. Andrew Neil was host for their flagship political program, and he would spout nonsense on twitter all while being the editor for a political magazine with specific leanings.
It’s a storm in a tea cup to distract from the absolute shambles that is our government, and their many, many failings.

10th March 2023 at 7:45 pm #205252For every action, there’s a reaction. Looks like this is backfiring now and creating a bigger mess. Basically like a Twitter spat entering real life. I preferred life before social media.
I have informed the BBC that I wonβt be appearing on MOTD tomorrow night.

10th March 2023 at 11:49 pm #205258I was actually delighted on Thursday Night when Richard Madeley effectively spoke in Gary Lineker’s defense that he has a right to an opinion. The programme itself that night on that topic when raised, you always feel you have to tip-toe.
Personally, I’m polar-opposition to Lineker’s stance, but he has a right to an opinion.
People are too ultra sensitive these days.

12th March 2023 at 11:42 am #205305Problems though in the bigger scheme with these disruptions. The public do need to think because this affects your viewing and you’re still paying TV License.

BBC reinstate Gary Lineker.
I just think they shot themselves in the foot here taking him out in the first place and pandering to social media outcry. Whether you agree with his stance, the man has his own platform in which he should have the freedom to express his views.

18th March 2023 at 1:53 pm #205462I think He’s covering one of the cup games later today but won’t be presenting MOTD tonight (again!).
More to the point, inadvertently, I thought last Saturday was refreshing and eye-opening without the punditry. I believe it’s far too excessive and should essentially be summarized in bullet-points. VAR also takes up discussion which can upset the mood. Really, the natural flavour of the game should be enjoyed with it being diluted with discussion which can breed critique and negativity.
