15th November 2017 at 8:36 pm #7529Brian Blue, perfectly summed up.
The betting industry is a bit naughty and cheeky, but ultimately, they do what they have to do and they’re a business. From a personal point of view, I don’t need a weekly update nor would want a weekly update.
And here’s the thing: supporters shouldn’t use it as a Barometer because by no means is it Mystic Meg, and humanity won a little bit with Leicester and the ‘once in a lifetime’ 5000/1.
When you lose games or start dropping points, the Managers have to face and feel the pressure of Betting industries, Journalists and Reporters. It’s an even more cut throat environment because of the way football is now perceived to be, and that is a business more than a Sport because of the vast amount of money in circulation.
One noticeable observation significantly influencing this fluctuation on a weekly basis is the competitiveness of our league in recent years. It’s greater and better than ever and certainly not the ‘Man United’ league. There is more choice which if you look at it in the angle of the Betting industry is pound signs all over it’s not really pinned down to a one horse race.
If the competition is lesser, then odds are forced in a negative direction like 1/3 on so unless there’s somebody out there with heavily filled Trouser Pockets, from a consumer point of view, you stand to profit very little, but risk more in the pipeline.
My own way of perceiving and dealing with it really is to take it with a pinch of salt or don’t get too hung up on those details and allow yourself to lose focus.
You are naturally wary of your rivals/competitors and hope sternly for them to lose points just to ease your own task, but ultimately on a week by week basis, it’s down to those players on the pitch to deliver and get over the finishing line with all 3 points.
Cheers

15th November 2017 at 8:44 pm #7532Nine, haha go for it mate with the 20/1. As long as it’s mathematically possible, don’t let any Bookmaker put you off or point out otherwise. If I was a Chelsea supporter, I’d be urging my team to just focus on getting those points on the board when presented with an opportunity.
Still lots of games to play and everything to hope for really for at least 4 of those teams currently occupying those positions.
Cheers

16th November 2017 at 9:50 am #7540unless they have a major collapse City have won it already-remember other teams are also still going to drop points, what is far more interesting will be the fight for the top 4 places.

16th November 2017 at 12:43 pm #7542C$ty have double the for & against figures of all bar manu & Even they arenβt far off double. They get an injury in any position & bring in a player who is at least as good as most opposition 1st team players. They will not capitulate aka Liverpool last season & will win this in a canter. As I said before this is a 1 horse race & the only interest is the next 3 positions. You are kidding yourself if you think anyone will catch them let alone overtake them.

16th November 2017 at 2:33 pm #7544Oz, is anyone on here seriously predicting that anyone will overtake City?
I haven’t seen them if they are. Understandably the City lads don’t want to count their chickens and tempt fate and I get that.

16th November 2017 at 3:13 pm #7545Anonymouswhilst i think city will win the league it is far from over. they have done remarkably well so far and an 8 point lead already is very impressive. but all it takes is 3 bad games and that gap is gone.

16th November 2017 at 3:22 pm #7547Said it before, City NOT winning it this year will be a bigger shock than Leicester winning it the other year… I’ll even reckon we’ll be looking at a record “gap” between first and second this year. The only bet worth having is “How many games to go win they win it?” I reckon 6….

16th November 2017 at 3:22 pm #7548That’s it Paxton. If City were to draw against Leicester and lose at OT, assuming all 3 of City, Utd and Spurs win their other games, the gap is suddenly back to 3 points between City and Utd/Spurs with Chelsea only a point behind.
A lot of IFs I know but it can all change very quickly. I still fancy City for the title but I can understand City fans’ cautious approach to the topic.

16th November 2017 at 8:08 pm #7555Chucky, I think you’ll find most if not all, the City fans on this forum have been supporting our team since the 70’s and 80’s and well remember the “cups for cock-up” days of that time. Old habits die hard, as they say, and the ‘glass half empty’ attitude (at least as far as City are concerned) is hard to shake off.
As a result, I still remain hopeful rather than expectant of our title chances this year – as many have pointed out, it’s still very early days._____________________________

16th November 2017 at 9:03 pm #7557Nine thereβs a lot saying βitβs too early to say c$ty will win itβ, that to me says some still think they may not, which in turn means yes some still believe c$ty will be overtaken. All it takes is a couple of bad games blah blah blah, yeah it would also take others to go on an unbeaten run whilst c$ty drop points & itβs just not going to happen. Unlike Liverpool last season c$ty can bring in top quality players to cover injuries &/or bad form. I get c$ty fans being reserved & not wanting to sound smug & cocky but reality is they will win it with some to spare.

16th November 2017 at 11:06 pm #7560I do feel strongly as far as mentality goes, if these odds are placed in reckoning within good reason and at this stage of the season City are top. If you are ‘A’ team 10 or even 15 points behind, would you: week in week out feel demotivated or deterred and try less?
Would you not go out and give everything you’ve got to try and win your game?
The bottom line is, you never get those games back and particularly when you start hitting February-March, you reflect back and think you should have made more of the games back in September, October, November.
I don’t say for example Liverpool are ‘in it’, but equally, my aim is always to try and catch the top 2. That has to be ‘the’ Holy Grail and you have to have that sort of mentality and ambition about you.
Tottenham although have unfortunately fallen short HAVE actually been more consistent in recent years and have been more closer to winning it. Doing the best you can and finishing as high as possible gives you more of a yardstick to build from as a positive.
By no means I would have it over to any of the Manchester clubs.
