5th April 2023 at 8:04 pm #205943Think they’re going to take their time in deciding who to appoint next after getting the last appointment so wrong. But what if Lamps has a flyer? π

5th April 2023 at 8:09 pm #205944Admittedly, probably has a lot to do with Nagelsmann wanting a break until summer so they need a stop gap.

5th April 2023 at 8:25 pm #205945Yeah mikus I think they are allowing for more time and more candidates for permanent role in summer.
Barring winning champs league I don’t think lamps has chance of staying on.

5th April 2023 at 8:46 pm #205946Yeah it’s the old Solskjaer problem if he has a stormer until the end of the season. Not much to lose really though. Would be typical of Chelsea to win the CL this season when they’re struggling in the league π

5th April 2023 at 9:26 pm #205947Somebody clearly and dearly that cares about the club and puts aside previous recent history. Treatment is ridiculously cut throat and in essence not quite thought through. One part of me thinks just a point blank Whiplash for something Frank’s wrongly done and in need of punishment. Why would you go back twice?
But then that would pose in the direction of in rumour Jose Mourinho.
We as Posters have mentioned on this Website rightly the dearth of up and coming coaches blossoming into Managers and more to convenience of propelling. They’re not READY.
Maybe this time round, Wisdom and previous experience placing Frank Lampard into this Challenge.

6th April 2023 at 6:27 am #205956Good post there Nil π I was thinking that Frank has nothing to lose and everything to gain having a crack at this with 10 matches left plus a Qtr final of the CL. We are likely to end 11th now, even this far out. The issue will be the bloated squad and any disenchantment already festering within. Mason Mount was always Frank’s favourite. A lot has happened with Mason’s career since then. No contract signed and frozen out by Potter for weeks on end now apart from fleeting sub appearances late on. Maybe Frank will help resurrect Mason’s lagging career and encourage him to put pen to paper. That might be something positive to happen out of this disaster of a season.

6th April 2023 at 8:02 am #205957Just shows you can never say never in football seemingly Chelsea’s hand was forced because Bruno didn’t want to carry on as interim Manager out of loyalty to Potter?

6th April 2023 at 8:03 am #205958No harm in bringing him back but be absolutely ridiculous if he was given the job full time no matter what he does

6th April 2023 at 2:05 pm #205964The rumours have already started that this could be another Ole situation π³
Lampard says he hasnβt been told that itβs strictly until the end of the season.

6th April 2023 at 2:16 pm #205965Ed the conte rumours made me laugh but honestly if it did happen I would look at the positive which is boehly is going to get the slap in the face he severely needs! π€£

6th April 2023 at 2:23 pm #205966Personally, I think Boehly should appoint all the managers together at the same time. Then how can he go wrong? π

6th April 2023 at 4:46 pm #205969Did any chelsea fan stop and think during this mad spendingβ¦what the fu$k are we doing here?
There was no way Potter had much of an input into some of the players. Out of them all, enzo looks good. What happens now in the summer if so one comes in and doesnβt fancy half of the players bought?
Everything said about Potter was true. Ridiculous appointment and a yes man. Some absolutely brilliant players there but it all just seems total maddness under bohely who knows nothing about football. Who is even advising him?
Crazy stuff

6th April 2023 at 5:21 pm #205970I was saying the same Sean. Say if Luis Enrique comes in and wants ultra technical pass masters, what then? Another half a billion splurge? By all accounts, they will need to balance the books this summer rather than spend that big again so it begs the question of how that fits in with a new coach who will have a completely different style to Potter.

6th April 2023 at 5:42 pm #205971Yeah Sean, all we have been doing since boehly came in is trying to get our heads around it and work put what the “plan” is. Actions speak louder than words and so far it’s impossible to understand what they are trying to do by inferring from the actions and decisions made.
If anyone wants to draw the conclusion that they don’t know what they are doing, you will get no argument from me.
I can only hope for the best and look forward to going to bridge on April 15th to welcome lamps back for his first home game. Super, Super Frank!! π€£

6th April 2023 at 5:47 pm #205972C67, the plus point to take for sure is the very least of his previous experience in managing Chelsea and of course his familiarity. Short term is probably the best set up for Lamps. Perhaps a way to re-ignite his CV.
Just as a short, the guy who was in charge was an absolute Gentleman and one of a kind. He turned down the opportunity to continue to take it on for the remainder of the season. I believe this is down to his loyalty to Graham Potter.

7th April 2023 at 11:31 am #205980Lucky, no matter, frank is a chelsea legend no matter what happens. Him and Chelsea have nothing to lose with this appointment . Be very interesting to see if he reverts to the players that are still there and he brought in
It be just maddness to give frank the full time job no matter how well he does.

8th April 2023 at 5:22 am #205982Frank Lampard has to be the luckiest manager in the history of the game imo. Not once has he done anything of note in the game and yet here is on his 3rd PL job at one of the biggest clubs in the league who happen to be in the QF of the CL. Did an ok job at Derby, though didn’t improve their league position despite a massive budget and some Chelsea loanees. Sacked by Chelsea having the worst win % of any manager in the Roman era. Sacked by Everton for almost taking down a team who haven’t been in the second tier for 120yrs. He doesn’t really have a style of play.
With all that said, the more I think about the appointment, the more I think it makes sense. When a club legend comes in, irrespective of his management abilities, what you absolutely always get is an initial bounce. The same would be true if Gerrard was appointed Liverpool manager today. You know it would end in tears (because he’s not a very good manager) but there’d 100% be an initial lift. The thing with an interim appointment is you only really need the initial lift. That could be enough to carry them through against Madrid and some tough PL games then who knows what they end up with. A CL, ala Di Matteo can’t be ruled out.
As others have said though, the dangers of the lift they get is that the board think they don’t need a new manager now. They can just extend Lampard’s deal. So from a Chelsea fan’s perspective, you’d want him to do well but not too well that he gets the job.
