Didn’t a teacher get sacked recently for kicking a horse? I don’t expect west ham to do this as he is too valuable an asset and sadly we live in a world where money is more important than morals. But a sizeable donation from his even more sizable wage to an animal charity should be the bare minimum he does. And give up his cats and be banned from owning again. And maybe get a bit of a kicking from someone.

9th February 2022 at 8:52 am #194112I remember that horse story 3p’s. I found that upsetting. There’s a point made about forgiveness on another thread, but I don’t think it’s as straight-forward as that to move on.
There is a social problem and a worrying one too as I’m coming across reports about Cats for example placed in a washing machine as a punishment. What message are we sending out if we just allow a ‘slap on the wrist’?
Everything West Ham have achieved this season for me went out of the window when Zouma was selected. I don’t even care anymore what happens to them. The club must take action.

9th February 2022 at 1:12 pm #194114Let’s hope Zouma’s apology was sincere but the terrible deeds Zouma was responsible for has consequences.
In my opinion Zouma has to be prosecuted his Cats need to be removed to a place of safety and he needs to be banned from owning any pets ever again.
Down to the RSPCA and the Police now I hope they come down hard on Zouma!

9th February 2022 at 2:28 pm #194117“Kurt Zouma’s two cats have been taken away by the RSPCA after shocking footage showed him abusing his pets.
The 27-year-old French defender was filmed dropping, kicking and slapping one of his Bengal cats.
West Ham has also fined him Β£250,000 β two weeksβ worth of wages β and axed him from the squad for the next game.
In a statement today, the RSPCA said: βThe two cats are now in RSPCA care. Our priority is and has always been the wellbeing of these cats.
βTheyβve been taken for a check-up at a vets and then will remain in our care while the investigation continues.
βWeβre grateful to everyone who expressed their concern for these cats. We were dealing with this issue before the video went viral online and are leading the investigation.
βWe continue to investigate so we cannot comment further at this time.β

9th February 2022 at 3:24 pm #194118Animal charity the RSPCA has taken West Ham defender Kurt Zouma’s pet cats away after videos emerged on social media of him kicking and slapping one of them.
The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is liaising with Essex Police about the incident.
“The two cats are now in RSPCA care,” said a charity spokesperson.
The Premier League club say they have fined Zouma “the maximum amount possible” and the fee will be donated to animal welfare charities.
West Ham said Zouma “willingly complied with the steps taken in the initial stage of the process, including delivering his family’s two cats to the RSPCA for assessment”.
The RSPCA spokesperson added: “Our priority is and has always been the wellbeing of these cats.
“They’ve been taken for a check-up at a vets and then will remain in our care while the investigation continues.
“We’re grateful to everyone who expressed their concern for these cats. We were dealing with this issue before the video went viral online and are leading the investigation.
“We continue to investigate so we cannot comment further at this time.”
The Hammers said the fine, which Zouma immediately accepted, was “separate to the RSPCA’s investigation and pending further sanction once the outcome of that process is determined”.
They added: “Kurt is extremely remorseful and, like everyone at the club, fully understands the depth of feeling surrounding the incident and the need for action to be taken.
“West Ham United would like to reiterate our condemnation of Kurt’s actions and make it clear that the matter continues to be handled with the utmost seriousness.
“However, we believe it is now important to allow the RSPCA to conduct their investigation in a fair and thorough manner, and will be making no further comment at this stage.”
West Ham manager David Moyes played France international Zouma in their match against Watford on Tuesday, despite the controversy, and the centre-back was booed by both sets of supporters during the game.
BBC Sport presenter and ex-England international Gary Lineker said he was “shocked and appalled that West Ham played Zouma” against Watford and called it a “tone-deaf decision”.
BT Sport pundit Joe Cole, who used to play for West Ham, called the decision a “miscalculation”.
‘They clearly think they can get away with it’
Meanwhile, more than 150,000 people have signed an online petition calling for Zouma to be prosecuted, while one of West Ham’s sponsors, Vitality, has suspended its deal with the club.Vitality, said it was “distressed” by the video of Zouma and “hugely disappointed by the judgement subsequently shown by the club in response to this incident”.
The company added: “As such, we are suspending our sponsorship of West Ham United with immediate effect. We will now be further engaging with the club to understand what actions they will be taking to address the situation.”
Experience Kissimmee, another sponsor, has said it “will be evaluating our relationship and sponsorship with the club” after he was selected for the Watford game.
The West Ham Supporters’ Trust has said it “condemns the actions” of Zouma. It is understood the trust feels Zouma should have been suspended until club disciplinary procedures had been concluded.
Speaking to BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, wildlife television presenter and conservationist Chris Packham described Moyes’ decision to play Zouma on Tuesday as “disgraceful” and said the manager “proved he doesn’t care” about the public standards footballers set.
“It’s not acceptable,” said Packham.
“We cannot condone this behaviour. West Ham should have sent a clear message. People were disgusted by this. Fans were booing. The decision shows a complete disconnect from them.
“This isn’t an internal matter. It’s a crime. They clearly think they can get away with it because it’s an animal and not a person.
“Look at Marcus Rashford – he’s a paragon of excellence – a true role model. There’s potential that kids will see how Kurt Zouma treats defenceless animals and want to emulate him.”

9th February 2022 at 8:15 pm #194120Adlab, I made a comment on Moyes on the Match Thread. The way everything so far has panned out, comments have crossed over.
It’s down to the root in human values, how we’ve been raised and how we treat people including animals such as Pets. Dogs and Cats are commonly owned by households. For some, Horses. They to me are Family.
More to the point there is animal cruelty worryingly in our society, but the RSPCA naturally have an extremely difficult job to try and do everything they can from their position.
I don’t regard Kurt Zouma at all. His actions were filmed. His Sponsors have been removed. Adlab also as far as I’m aware in relation to the media he has been so far condemned unanimously.

9th February 2022 at 11:43 pm #194126there’s a brilliant episode of Black Mirror that perfectly sums up this discussion. Whereby you are constantly judged and merited based on behaviours. It is happening currently in China and we are certainly heading that way too. It’s a slippery slide people!

9th February 2022 at 11:59 pm #194127What, based on a report of China owning UK of 143Billion. We’re meant to be feared and feared of being Ruled? No Black Mirror. We stand by Principles and Values. If people don’t like it, Tough. Zouma is Condemned by France. I couldn’t care a less about Leicester accommodating China in building Luxury Studio University flats just so they can Entice 21k for the Full Course!

10th February 2022 at 2:42 am #194130WTF are you on about? Nothing to do with debts or finance or nationalism (or whatever that last God Save The Queen BS was about) and everything to do with the gradual move towards a social credit system.

This is precisely where cancel culture takes you

10th February 2022 at 4:52 am #194133Taking Zoumas cats away is understandable but also a concern, what happens to them now? There’s so many cats and dogs at shelters and vets looking for homes? Cats are very territorial they get traumatised when they moved from their current homes.

10th February 2022 at 7:04 am #194137Foxy, I’m not sure society has judged (or remotely cared about) any of Zouma’s off the field activities until he volleyed a defenceless animal across his kitchen and then slapped it. So, to say he or anyone else is being constantly judged and merited based on behaviour is a bit of a stretch.
If the alternative is another reality where Benjamin Mendy, Mason Greenwood and Kurt Zouma are all still playing football today without any judgement or social repercussions, then I’m absolutely fine with where we’re “heading”. That’s an even slippier slope, in my opinion.

10th February 2022 at 1:04 pm #194140I’m very fond of cats and have had several in my life and am better for it. No one here condones the actions of Zouma and what he did. And West Ham would have been best suspending him for a few games – if anything just to get him out the spotlight and better deal with it internally. We are a nation of animal lovers – what is curious though is how we can be more outraged and shocked over such things than we are over incidents involving our fellow human beings. We have young kids now basically going around stabbing each other in our major cities and it seems to have become normalised. But somebody mistreats a cat, and our outrage seems to know no bounds.
