Looking increasingly like Arne Slot. Not sure a single Liverpool fan had him on their list of hopeful appointments. Quite an underwhelming choice I’d imagine. Thoughts Liverpool fans?

23rd April 2024 at 8:58 pm #214065Depends how charismatic Slot is. As regards comparisons with the Dutch league & Ten Hag, I think Ten Hag is a poor man manager. According to the report linked below, Spurs were even put off Ten Hag’s lack of charisma when looking for a manager.
If Slot has a bigger personality he might do alright. I think he also might have had a smaller budget than other clubs in the Dutch league and still won them the title in his second year I think. The report below seems to indicate he is pretty charismatic which I think is key in helping to communicate across your ideas. So we’ll see. It also looks like he plays with a similar attacking intensity to Klopp so would obviously fit in more seamlessly. Lack of big club experience still a potential concern, but who else is out there? Wonder what tips the balance between him & Amorim? We do have a few Dutch players in the side now.

23rd April 2024 at 9:02 pm #214072Not sure what happened there Mikus. Only just. Spotted your post and deleted the duplicate.
Yeah good points. I’d be quite underwhelmed if he was coming to Utd but I’m sure Liverpool have done their homework on him. It’d be a big, big gamble bringing someone from the Dutch league who’s only ever played and managed there and hasn’t won a great deal.

23rd April 2024 at 9:39 pm #214078There’s not actually much choice at the moment. Alonso was my choice and probably every other liverpool fans (apart from Sean!) just because of the achievements at Leverkusen (and not because he is an ex-player).
Nearly every management appointment is a risk. Maybe not Pep at City as I think they always had him in mind and set everything up to accommodate him. Even Klopp at Liverpool came from a very disappointing season at Dortmund.
For me it’s about tactical acumen and as Mikus says charisma and personality. Klopp quickly won the LFC fans over with his exciting style, his charismatic personality and he tapped into the football culture of Liverpool. He just got it, and we got him.
At least with Slot he plays a similar high intensity style that Klopp gave us and we enjoyed, with either a 4231 or 433. Amorim plays with 3 at the back which would be a change as does Alonso who is more Guardiola than Klopp in style.
Just have to hope the recruitment team do their job with diligence.

23rd April 2024 at 10:30 pm #214080FSG are extremely shrewd and that’s putting it mildly. They will not want to lose unless they know or forecast a return. Would they really stump up the compensation?
Maybe I’m wrong. I just think the media are going to keep speculating and effectively trolling. The timing is just wrong and I’ve mentioned either on here or somewhere else, unethical because I wouldn’t particularly like it if another club was trying to unsettle my club manager whilst he’s under tenure and not in a position to leave.

24th April 2024 at 8:27 am #214082Looking more likely.
π¨π΄ Initial contacts between Arne Slot and Liverpool, very positive. New contact to follow soon with Slot keen on #LFC job.
βοΈ Understand there's NO release clause included into his contract; Feyenoord would request compensation fee as they did with Tottenham one year ago. pic.twitter.com/SKze1EEpY7

24th April 2024 at 9:39 am #214087Big decisions are going to be needed no doubt whoever comes in. No way will we get 200 million just handed to us. Sell to buy is what we’re about under FSG.
We need 2 Phases of rebuild and good solid new blood brought in. Curtis Jones is one of the first that can leave. Need a real strong character to replace our Jurgen.

24th April 2024 at 10:50 am #214090Or a restricted budget. Makes me think though Three P’s we bought well signing Mane, Gini.
Short memory of mine re Darwin Nunez, but can’t help but feel that would have come off some sort of a net spend.

24th April 2024 at 11:16 am #214092Nil we use a spend what you earn type system, but that is controlled by the club not FSG. People always get the two mixed up when it comes to transfers. We increase revenue our transfer kitty increases for example. Sales of course can boost the kitty but it never have been a policy of the club. All this moneyball nonsense never actually existed with the club.

25th April 2024 at 10:36 pm #214137I didn’t realize he’s only 45 years of age. Good age to join and develop longevity it if works out. Personally, I need to research and get more info on the guy, but from what I’ve come about from reports, he seems the man to fill the boots π

26th April 2024 at 8:42 pm #214144Arne Slot is going to be a disaster for Liverpool.
The likes of Ferguson, Jose, Klopp, Pep, Ten Hag made a name for themselves because of what they accomplished in Europe. Ten Hags Ajax were in the semi final of the CL, beating Real Madrid, Juventus and narrowly losing to Spurs.
Klopp showed what he is capable of at Dortmund, when they reached the final of the CL and Ferguson at Aberdeen.
Arne Slot side struggled in the CL and Europa league this season. He hasn’t over achieved, he literally has done well in a poor quality Dutch league. Only winning the title once.

26th April 2024 at 11:02 pm #214146And how’s it going with “made a name for himself in europe” Ten Hag? Unless utd win the fa cup (unlikely) he’s unemployed this summer and Utd will most likely turn to Southgate (please football gods make this happen) or maybe Zidane (also could be very funny). Ten Hag lost to Poch in Europe, maybe utd should have gone for him instead in the first place.
Van Gaal and Mourinho also did pretty well in Europe, didn’t work out too well either!
Let’s judge him after he’s at least taken the job and maybe played a few matches first.

26th April 2024 at 11:19 pm #214148Truthfully Ten Hag would be a success elsewhere. He just walked in to a mess at United and is struggling. If he had a structure similar to what he did at Ajax, like Klopp did at Liverpool, Ten Hag most likely would have been a success. His stubbornness has also been questionable at times.
But that is besides the point. Arne Slot has only won 1 league title in the Dutch league. Ten Hag had a bigger reputation because of what he did at Ajax in Europe and domestically.
Jose was a success at Porto in Europe before going to Chelsea and being a success. Then landing jobs at Inter, Real Madrid and Manchester United.
Poch reputation is based on how well he did at Spurs before landing jobs at PSG and Chelsea.
What has Arne Slot done? His
Feyenoord side didn’t exactly impress anyone across Europe this season. People have not spoken about them up until he was linked to Liverpool and he is going to miss out on the league title to PSV. It is not exactly he is leaving that club on the high. This he is similar to Klopp is a recipe for disaster. As a United fan, I should know when a manager was constantly being compared to his predecessor.

27th April 2024 at 3:37 am #214150Oh right its the poor club structure that led you to start a thread titled “Time for Ten Hag to go”. Makes sense now.
Ten Hag won two titles in 5 years and one run to the CL semi final with Ajax. Dortmund this year are in the CL semi final, maybe Utd will be knocking on whoever their managers door is this summer?
They say never buy a player based on a good tournament, maybe that should be extended to “never hire a manager based on one good cup run”. Winning the title with much fancied Ajax with far greater resources than anyone else isn’t exactly an indication of an elite coach.
Your last paragraph makes zero sense. Firstly, which utd managers were compared to Fergie and how? And if it hasn’t worked for your ckub why does that have any relevance to another? Secondly, if the style is similar then of course it should be easier for both the players and the fans to transition. Should we have gone like Utd did with Jose for someone that played boring football? As said, zero sense.
I don’t know much about Slot but all I can hope is the recruitment team has done their research correctly when it comes to his tactical approach and personality. Time will tell, but no manager should written off before they’ve even managed one game (except for Ole, was clear he would be a disaster from day one. Damn I miss that guy).
Final point, Klopp walked into a right mess at Liverpool, so i dismiss your point about Klopp and the structure. His personality and tactical approach brought affinity with the fans which then gave him the base for the success.

27th April 2024 at 7:34 am #214153Your last paragraph makes zero sense. Firstly, which utd managers were compared to Fergie and how?
David Moyes was compared to Ferguson. When it was spoken about how he was cut from the same cloth.
You clearly missing the point. Ten Hag was appointed on the back of him doing well in Europe, like Klopp was appointed Liverpool manager at the back of him do it well at Dortmund, they both lost a number of key players who contributed to that success.
Ten Hag won two titles in 5 years and one run to the CL semi final with Ajax.
He won 3 league titles and would have won 4, if the Dutch league was not cancelled because of COVID.
Dortmund this year are in the CL semi final
Beating Real Madrid in their own yard 4-1 and beating a strong Juventus side is more impressive than beating PSV and Athletico Madrid.
Oh right its the poor club structure that led you to start a thread titled βTime for Ten Hag to goβ.
I always said if Ten Hag had a good structure in place, it would help. United never did, Klopp saw United didn’t and didn’t accept the job. He saw Liverpool did, and it helped him.
I was not portraying Ten Hag being some success story at United, I mentioned the names on the back of how they became known around Europe and why they got the big jobs after
I may have ruffled your feathers here. But now many Liverpool fans had Arne Slot down in their top 5 list?
