From Alonso’s wiki page. Potentially bodes well…
“Alonso convinced Arteta to transfer to Everton after he told him how happy he was living in Liverpool.
Even while playing at Real Madrid, Alonso has declared himself a Liverpool supporter and returns to watch games at Anfield when his schedule allows. He was quoted in The Times Online in 2011 as saying, “I am still a Liverpool fan and will be forever, absolutely” and that he will raise his Liverpool-born son as a Red supporter.”

26th January 2024 at 3:47 pm #212188Alonso or de zebri not experienced enough for me and won n Ancelloti but will never happen
He needs to replaced and there is no absolute winner out there. Tuchel before munich became so bad would have been my choice
Alonso comimg back only ends one way but there is really no other choice but him ir de zebri. Dont fancy either but at a push Alonso as he one of my favourite players.
Heβs irreplaceable and we are only going one way now. Absolutely gutted.

26th January 2024 at 4:10 pm #212190I agree Alonso could do with another job before us ideally to bridge the gap. But his record is very good. Failing that, I think Ange would be next choice. He’s got the big personality and man management to handle it and would be a more seamless fit following Klopp. (I’m sure Ed agrees π). Yes, there’s tactical worries but with Anfield behind him I think he could do a good job. You’re never going to replace Klopp obviously. Like looking for a new house you’re not going to find the perfect one, though Klopp was close to that.

26th January 2024 at 4:12 pm #212191An absolute legend, what a man! For me, the best ever in English football, yes, better than Ferguson and Wenger. It was a pleasure and a joy to have him in the PL.Will be missed, very much so.Sounds like he is ready to call it a day, completely.

26th January 2024 at 4:29 pm #212194I just think at the moment, it’s unfair spotlight on Xabi Alonso. He really is a lovely guy and much loved at Liverpool, but he is currently in a job at Leverkusen in which his journey is in the right direction.
Ethically, it’s wrong to try and unsettle him and unfair to all associated with Leverkusen including their supporters.
I do like De Zerbi. Lost a little bit of love of Gerrard for shipping himself to the Saudi’s. Never thought he was ‘the type’!

26th January 2024 at 4:36 pm #212195I think Ange is another who falls into the category of not having the big club experience Mikus (sorry Chucky). Even including Spurs as a big club, he’s had half a season and is 5th,about what you’d expect from Spurs. He’s almost 60. As a Utd fan, I’d be delighted if Ange was the one chosen, quite frankly π. I think he’s done a decent half a season but I’ve never seen such an over reaction in the media to a good half season.

26th January 2024 at 4:55 pm #212196Sweddy-Come on,m8,Spurs lost their best player, appointed a new manager, don’t have unlimited budget to spend/waste on players, so it’s understandable.He/they are having a brilliant season so far, long may it continue.Hope theiwin something this season.

26th January 2024 at 4:57 pm #212197They’re doing well Mav but brilliant? They’re 5th. They’re still very much riding on the wave of a new manager bounce. It’s far far too early to say he’s going to be the excellent manager the media would have us believe.

26th January 2024 at 5:22 pm #212199Considering they’ve lost their best player, appointed a new manager without a single day experience in the best league in the world, don’t have unlimited budget -yes,so far!

26th January 2024 at 6:08 pm #212202Klopp I believe had a break after Dortmund before joining Liverpool, but you have to appreciate, he is in his 50s. This job to uphold at the highest level is tough. Especially in the current climate of increased media platforms and more than regular scrutiny.
It’s pressure. As a side note on this subject, if Ronnie wins the Worlds, that would make him a Triple Crown Champion with 8-8-8 Respectively and he I think would bow out at the Top.

26th January 2024 at 6:09 pm #212204World’s gone mad π. Spurs have 4 points more than they had at this time last season. He’s doing a good job but it’s definitely a modern phenomenon that I’ll never quite understand to label people almost as messiahs for doing a decent job. Celtic were awful in the CL under him. A record worst ever CL campaign under him when he was there. These days it seems like trophies are almost an after thought. If your team plays a high line and has more passes than the other team, you’ve made it in management π

26th January 2024 at 6:11 pm #212205Kane is brilliant but let’s not forget he’s gone to Bayern who have arguably become a worse side despite his brilliance. Was there an over reliance on him which we’re now seeing repeated under a Bayern side who couldn’t stop winning until he joined?

26th January 2024 at 6:31 pm #212207Bayern were awful before Kane went there,e team that required major rebuild, and Tuchel playing horrible football.

26th January 2024 at 6:43 pm #212208Well they won the league Mav without Kane and will probably not win it this season for the first time in 12 seasons π. So, fantastic he is, he doesn’t seem to have made them a better team.
The thing is, I’ve nothing at all against Ange. I think he’s doing a decent job. I just find the media hype around him completely over the top.

26th January 2024 at 6:49 pm #212209Bayern should be aiming to win the CL, but they have regressed in the last few years, nowt to do with Kane.Just admit it Sweedy, you have an agenda against anything Spurs.
