26th January 2024 at 10:55 am #212164“I have to [say] I will leave the club at the end of the season,” Klopp said in an interview with the club’s media channels. “I can understand that it’s a shock for a lot of people in this moment when you hear it for the first time, but obviously I can explain it or at least try to explain it.
“I love absolutely everything about this club. I love everything about the city, I love everything about our supporters. I love the team. I love the staff. I love everything.
“That I still take this decision it shows you that I am convinced it’s the one I have to take. It is that I am, how can I say this? I am running out of energy and I have no problem now, obviously, I think I know it for already longer that I will have to announce it at one point . But I am absolutely fine now but I also know that I cannot do the job again and again and again.
“And after all the times we’ve had together after all the time we’ve spent together, the things we went through together, the respect grew for you, the love grew for you and the least thing I owe you is the truth. And that is the truth.”

26th January 2024 at 11:16 am #212165I’m shocked.
I had hoped that he would outlast Pep, so we’d get a chance at a few more titles. I am not sure I can see where our trophies are going to come from when he goes.
Klopp goes, Salah goes. That’s it. The jig is up._____________________________

26th January 2024 at 11:30 am #212167Strange thing is, I thought last season he started to looked drained and tired when we had that difficult start to the season, and that perhaps he didn’t fancy another rebuild. And I think I mentioned that in several posts last season/earlier this summer. But since the turnaround from that, I just thought normal service had been resumed. But underneath everything, it’s maybe still taken a lot out of him. The way he coaches is demanding and it’s been 8 years has it now? Still a shock considering the way we’re currently performing, but nobody is superhuman.

As for who could replace him, I’d already start looking at Alonso._____________________________

26th January 2024 at 11:41 am #212168Alonso the current bookies favourite and probably my first choice. De Zerbi worth considering. Luis Enrique – not sure he needs bigger resources to bring in his kind of players. Have to say though, in his short time at Spurs, I do like Postecoglou. He would fit in seamlessly after Klopp. (Sorry Banjo).

26th January 2024 at 11:41 am #212169Mikus was just thinking the same and remember saying he looked tired last season. I have a theory in my head he wanted to leave then but didnt want to with the team in such a state. This rebuild is probably a couple of seasons ahead of schedule and he will leave the team in a great situation.

26th January 2024 at 11:48 am #212170Yeah Threeps, that makes sense. He probably did want to leave last season, but wanted to turn things around first and now we’re ahead of schedule that turn around is complete. He’s also an emotional guy so it must have been so draining for him.

26th January 2024 at 11:54 am #212171Hands off, Mikus!!
Anyway, absolutely surprised at the announcement… would have thought it would have been best to leave it until the end of the season rather than half-way through it… I remember when Fergie did that, didn’t work out that great in the end… and he ended up staying on I think!
Certainly a character that will be missed, whether you loved him or not, and his record speaks for itself.
My Monster Munch would be on Alonso… with the Brighton fella 2nd…

26th January 2024 at 12:16 pm #212172Anfield is going to be on fire from here on out.
Ya, Klopp would have left last season only that he wanted his legacy repaired before he called it and fair enough. I hope that FSG tried to offer him short break away from the game, with Linders taking charge for a few matches. I’m sure they did and that he said no.
it’s just that with our rebuild going so well already, could he not have continued it?… well I kinda answered my own question as I wrote it. Some of the core players are another year older and maybe Salah won;t be here for the next leg also.
it’s just too hard to try to take the next steps forward when the squad will be taking a natural step backwards. So maybe he’s making exactly the right call here, in giving us a platform to build on and as a potential legacy sealing end to his time at the club, with a European/PL title win. Obviously, both is possible but let’s not get ridiculous.

26th January 2024 at 12:29 pm #212173I’m honestly just blown away by this. Truly gutted. This is just how I felt after we lost one of those CL finals. I never get used to that. it’s the same feeling because when it’s fresh, you’re not thinking about the challenge next season. With this news, I don’t see a challenge next season.

26th January 2024 at 1:30 pm #212176I imagine at this moment in time like many LFC supporters, fans like us are processing what’s has unfolded today. We’re in an absolute best place. Rebuilding can be done, but more importantly the investment in our foundations like the refurb of the Anfield Road End, new Training ground, better training facilities, it really is a godsend only a handful of clubs in the whole world have been blessed with.
One of my fave memories along side the Norwich 4-4 draw at Carrow Road was his humour exhibited during a match when Lucas Leiva shot from long distance. He had that in him to be able to be playful as well as turn on the charm and be bold and serious when need be.
Reminds me of Kenny Dalglish’s resignation back in 1991. I’m sure back then he left us Top of the Table, 2 Points Clear.

26th January 2024 at 1:33 pm #212177I have a feeling from what broke out today, we’ve gained more love from other sets of supporters. Whether this is just because of the news or going forward, we’ll just be filled with greater attention than ever and even be rooted on.
We get over the final on Feb 25, and we’re sitting in a healthy position to compete for Leadership, there will be Quadruple talk.
I genuinely believe we finish the season with 2 Trophies (One will be a Major).

26th January 2024 at 2:21 pm #212181Echoing Chucky here. Absolutely no change in my level of love for Liverpool 😄
Big news though. What Alonso is doing at Leverkusen and him not ruling out the possibility today worries me slightly as I think he could do a great job at Liverpool. Similarly, I’d be gutted if De Zerbi goes there because I think he’s top of the list if Ten Hag goes.

26th January 2024 at 2:24 pm #212182One thing is for sure, make sure you carry enough sick bags for the end of the season. Will be a Liverpool love in and lots of crying scousers.

26th January 2024 at 2:30 pm #212184I did wonder that Chucky. There’s going to be some competition for De Zerbi and Alonso this summer with potentially Barca, Liverpool, Utd, Madrid and Bayern jobs all up for grabs if all the big leagues were to end in the way they currently look like doing. It certainly could make owners/directors a bit more hasty in their decision making to get there first.

26th January 2024 at 2:40 pm #212185Ya, and I dont think Liverpool could make any kind of claim to be Alonso’s preferred destination, all jobs considered. He was loved here but he’s a Spaniard and would probably have an eye on Madrid and maybe Bayern before Liverpool.
Obviously, we hope otherwise but…
So, Liverpool might already have gone for him.
Like, I wouldn’t be totally shocked to hear that we already had a manager lined up and all but i’s dotted, cause FSG have known for ages but the advantage is gone once this goes public.Alonso refusing to rule a move out is very positive and that makes me think that perhaps that’s lined up.
Let’s hope it doesn’t distract him or his players in this season though, as this is something truly special._____________________________
