The fact Rodri is so good really makes me wonder why City were bidding for Rice. That was one transfer I didn’t understand. They already paid £50mil for Kalvin Phillips to sit on the bench. Was he going to be another bench warmer for them?
Haven’t seen any of the games today but sounds like a draw was a fair result at the Bridge. Can’t make either of those teams out yet. Liverpool were a shambles at the back at times last season and you’d expect them to have improved there and Chelsea have tons of talent but it remains to be seen that Poch is capable of competing for trophies in a league like the PL.

13th August 2023 at 7:04 pm #208251Take a draw after the way that panned out. But what’s a bit more concerning (other than the defence) is as Trent effectively alluded to, we stopped playing after 25 minutes and never really recovered. Another fault from last season still lingering where we couldn’t keep things up for 90 minutes. Let’s hopefully put it down to first game back.

13th August 2023 at 7:13 pm #208252Mikus, Trent getting booked for time wasting at 1-1 in 67th minute was a bit odd.

13th August 2023 at 7:16 pm #208253Threadbare as far as defenders go Ed. Kostas, Nat Phillips and Joel Matip. Any injuries incurred to those who featured today and we’d be doomed.

13th August 2023 at 7:17 pm #208254As he said, think we were playing for the draw at that point. Quite impressed with Chelsea after our spell in the 1st half. Pochs strength is undoubtedly his ability to make a team very solid and tactically disciplined. A while since they’ve looked together like that.

13th August 2023 at 7:18 pm #208255Mikus, that’s one of the challenges of the game; trying to sustain 90 minutes in maintaining the shape and discipline. We seem to let loose after 25 mins. I see why Pep is so hard on his players and maybe Klopp needs to be like that with our lot.

13th August 2023 at 7:44 pm #208256Ed. Not sure why we bought Phillips. Just not the right player. He would be better in a team like West Ham or Everton maybe where he could be a key player
I agree with the match comments on here. But too soon to judge anything._____________________________

13th August 2023 at 7:52 pm #208257We badmouth need two holding players and a left sided centre back. Konate was excellent todsy. Two good debuts from macallaister and sozobo. We just need more defensive minded players in.
Tough game and pleased with a draw

13th August 2023 at 8:00 pm #208260Agree Sean. He’s had a good pre-season and looks sharper in his movement as well as being able to find the target. Salah compliments Nunez. Bit of a misfit for Gakpo since Diaz has come back. Mac Allister should play in Henderson’s old role.

13th August 2023 at 8:03 pm #208261We’re in sort of a similar position to Chelsea; lots of players lost: Henderson-Fabinho-Oxlaid-Keita-Firmino-Milner.
Essentially in a rebuild process.

14th August 2023 at 6:57 am #208265Saw the Spuds highlights… overall not that disappointted, sounds like we could have won it, the Bee’s peno was a bit soft for sure but contact was made, even if the player stayed on his feet before remembering where he was and falling over to win the pen… the sort of thing we all want given for us but not against us….
Anyway, 19 chances created by all accounts, just an issue finishing them… (Richy wasn’t great by all accounts!) but seemingly Maddison & Destiny looked like they’ed been there for years…
I doubt will be pushing for Top5 but I’m not too worried about relegation… 🙂

14th August 2023 at 8:37 am #208266Spurs and Chelsea were both unlucky but it was 2 great games and hats off to all 4 teams, I’m very happy they playing extra time for all the times the ball was dead and also carding players who wave a hand towards the ref for an opposition player to be booked or sent off. Don’t the players know that or simply taking a chance waving for a players name to be taken? it’s a poor character trait.

14th August 2023 at 11:08 am #208275There are players that take the mick out of the system and blatantly lie when in an example of the ball coming off them that ends up as a decision for the opposition (throw ins and corners).
I felt though in an example of yesterday, Trent was faced trying to find a somebody free to throw the ball to, but every other player where he wanted to place it was marked. You need time and avoid foul throwing. Harsh that he was carded and aggrieved one would be in being hurried in that situation.

14th August 2023 at 11:16 am #208278Suicidal defending after 25 minutes from Liverpool. This is being a little smoke-screened in not having a DM which is fundamental to the argument, but it’s fundamental to set our stall and maintain discipline not allowing ourselves to be exposed so it comes across as though that’s the sole blame factor and problem.
We’re not tactically being set up right. Therefore, forget about building up any league momentum and any aspiration. I fault for once Klopp.

14th August 2023 at 11:23 am #208279Have to admit, I loved the “You wanna a card, here’s a card” moments yesterday…

14th August 2023 at 11:35 am #208280Banjo, I also loved seeing the ref let 50/50s go yesterday and didn’t blow up for every physical duel. I think we will see better games for it.
